    GT2 purchase

Hi guys,I have the opportunity to purchase a 2002 seal grey GT2 7000 km , no damage , no track days , $285000 AUD . I currently run a 2003 GT3 on the track and love it to bits. Any comment on the 2 cars different aspects. I know the GT2 is heaps quicker and more dangerous though I am a decent steerer. Other cars are going for $350000 AUD + though there are only 20 in the country I think. Any comments appreciated . Thanks. Also I have just checked the american web site and the 2004 GT2 seems to have the same rims as the GT3 , so I assume it has been updated a little from the 2002 car? Also has the 04 car received more HP? thanks

    Re: GT2 purchase

What you mean with heaps quicker? In straight line performance yes... but it is not for nothing that porsche uses the GT3 for racing, and not the GT2...
The GT2 has more power, but is also more heavy. Also, it is turbocharged which could surprise you when used to a GT3 I presume. I once saw movies of a GT2 and GT3 on a racetrack. They were almost equally fast. The GT2 drifting through every corner, taking the bends on power. The GT3 drove ideally, taking each corner without drifting... only on the straight parts, the GT2 was faster. Remember; the GT2 is a roadcar suitable for track use. The GT3 is a trackcar suitable for roaduse

    According to PCNA

    GT2 weight is 3,131
    GT3 weight is 3,042

I dont think more heavy is right .. Slightly, yes

    Re: GT2 purchase

:O I must say, that surprises me! I didn't check the weights myself, so the little difference surprises me.

Not completly sure that they are available in Aus but have you considered a GT3 RS??? Would make the perfect upgrade from a GT3 I would guess.

porsche australia featured the RS on their website -- so i guess it was available. it's still online (but not integrated into the current navigation since model is discontinued).

thanks for the feed back. yes the RS is still probably available , don't know if any are brand new , probably available 2nd hand. As I have a MK2 GT3 at the moment I felt the RS wouldn't feel different enough. I know it is a weapon. The GT2 is such great value , looks different to the GT3 and has mass torque at such low revs. This is what grabbed my attention. It is at least $80000 AUD less than anything currently being offered. I saw it today. Seal grey exterior very sexy with tinted windows. Not a scratch on it. I will find out tomorrow if the seller will accept my offer.
    rock on

well, that depends completelly of the driver. You can drive smooth and fast with a GT2 and drift like a mad with a GT3, only that the GT2 has more power and thus it'll be a bit more tricky to keep the tail in check. But yep overall the GT3 is more "refined" and the GT2 more of a beast. Matter of taste I'd say

    Re: GT2 purchase

Porsche built its racing reputation using turbocharged cars. It also first applied turbocharging to practical use in a passenger car. The more recent move to NA racing cars has a great deal more to do with regulations than with the technology. A good driver can lap much faster with a GT2 than with a GT3. But you have to have the seat time to master the car.

    Re: GT2 purchase

As a 2nd hand, I think the best value for money would be the GT2s. These models take a huge hit when are sold as used. Even low milage '04 models are being sold for as low as $90K.

The old GT2 has 462 HP, the MY 2004 483 HP. The rims looks similar but the GT3 has 295mm and the GT2 315mm bright wheels on it. What's the rate for AUD to Euro ?

In Germany you can get used good GT2 arround 120.000 Euro inkl. VAT of 16%.

If you are a good driver go for the GT2. This car is amazing. The potential is very high and difficult to reach. I drove one last year on the "autobahn". No problem to reach 315 km/h. My GT3 goes 325 km/h but not in this serious way. But i never drove a GT2 on a racetrack.

    Re: GT2 purchase

    Ha-

I would like to know where you can buy a low mileage GT2 in the U.S., unless it has had previous damage, for a price in the S90KUSD range. The average, according to Excellence, for a good to excellent used '02-'04 is $125-135K.

    Re: GT2 purchase

You should do a search here. RC wrote a report about the differences between the two generations 996 GT2... they seem to differ a lot in performance too.
