Let's be honest here (and I am a German car guy, I love quality, not sure I would have gotten myself a Lambo if Audi wouldn't be behind it): What Tesla and now GM and others do in the US is highly commendable and impressive. They are pioneers in the field in my opinion. The build quality and/or finish may not always be top notch but these cars represent a vision, a new mobility, the next decade, surely the next century.

German car makers always needed the pressure from Tesla and Co. to just start making EVs. They are getting better and I am pretty sure that at some point, German car makers will offer top quality high performance EVs and of course also EVs in the lower performance and price level.

Where is Mercedes with a EV G-class? Where is Volkswagen with an EV pickup truck? Just a few examples.

General Motors has a long history of producing vehicles lacking in that final percentage of refinement and introducing a vehicle that barely exists outside of its cyberspace is what leads to problems. The Hummer EV debut is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to draw attention away from the Tesla Cybertruck, Ravian, and Ford F-150 EV. This song was played before.

Maybe, you could be right but I still find these projects to be highly refreshing. In Europe, we get only boring cars, mostly. Not talking about expensive supercars and stuff like that.

The Hummer SUV has less horsepower than the Hummer EV pickup truck because the SUV is shorter. A shorter vehicle means the battery pack is smaller, so horsepower is reduced. This is something to consider about EVs. Size matters in terms of horsepower and performance. The bigger the battery, the greater the horsepower rating. The Hummer SUV is scheduled for introduction in the States in 2023. While the concept is interesting, the interior appears low rent for the price.

I agree, it is not suited for Germany nor for Austria... but TBH who cares, ppl who want to hate will do it anyway, this car is just amazing and its even green Smiley . The only thing that would make it difficult is finding parking spots in Vienna city center... Smiley

This is the type of thinking, or lack thereof, that has made small vehicles prohibitively expensive with the transition to EVs. There's plenty of insanity in the States but nothing compares with the machinations of the unelected bureaucrats running Europe.

Of course not... We all know that this is very often (not always) about wealth, status symbols and envy, not only the environment.

Funny: Since many people here perceive my Jeep as an off-roader, I have much less negative comments about my massive 2.5 t Jeep than I had about the GLC 63. Off-roader? OK. Luxury SUV? Not OK. Smiley Two people even pitted me that I got the Jeep..."isn't it much slower and less comfortable than the AMG?". Smiley Smiley

200 kWh battery packs are heavy things versus roughly 36 pounds of gasoline with the equivalent energy content.

I can appreciate the sound the car makes, the thrill of how it revs up through the gears, the downshifts of the gearbox, etc...but I have yet to sit behind the wheel of a car and say to myself, man I just love the % of energy conversion in this car, truly lovely...

My hand never made any sound, but it is quicker and gets the job done. It might take an hour or 2 or all night but I enjoy a girl in bed that make all the right sound more.
