    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

It's not the PORSCHE lettering that looks cheap, it's putting it on the strip of lights/plastic that stretches between the taillights that looks cheap, like Dodge:

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

i actually very much liked the fact that there used to not be any porsche lettering on the back of the cars except for the rear window sticker.

    SciFrog:

The black rear strip is a very cheap gimmick.

It looks OK but the PORSCHE lettering looks like on the Boxster...not a good idea in my opinion. Maybe in a different color (a dark grey) or different size? Don't know.

Macan facelift will be part of new Porsche design layout, so expect same elements on Macan facelift like you saw on new Panamera.

I also think it is weird that they have put brushed alu pipes for PSE. Either chrome or Black high gloss would be better like on all other models. I though the brushed alu was dedicated to the base models Smiley.

The black roof doesn't look nice (to my eyes), rest of it does. Also aren't the brushed alu pipes part of the sport exhaust?

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Panamera, like other Porsches, is distorted in photographs.  In real life, the car is low, sleek, nicely proportioned.  And I think that the ratio of width to height in the Panamera is higher than a 991..

Car and Driver (I think it was) said it was confirmed. I posted a quote and link further back in the thread. They also said the Panamera coupe is possible. (The coupe comment may have been a little stronger or weaker than "possible", I can't recall exactly.)

Edit: Well, I thought I did, but I couldn't find it. I'll go see if I can find the story again.

I don't think this was the article I was referring to, since it was more recent, but: http://blog.caranddriver.com/porsche-panamera-shooting-brake-is-a-go-for-production-and-well-get-it/

Ok, it was a link in this post, https://www.rennteam.com/forum/thread/71402616/Re_OFFICIAL_New_Panamera_2016/page1.html#p71402616, that I read and commented on later, not a link I posted, not Car and Driver.

    There we go Lukas!

The car looks amazing on the press pictures, where every angle and lightning is spot on. The pictures you have posted are real life pictures. This is how I did see couple of cars around Stuttgart. Looks nice, but nothing special, not an eye catcher at all. I did see how a new Panamera parked in front of a trendy Bar. Not even one person (except of me) took notice of or was giving special attention towards.

And this saying - those pictures are a Turbo, the top of the range. A 200k€ car - SmileySmiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

I think that the Porsche Panamera looks too refined, too sterile, too...German. angry It lacks that particular "je ne sais quoi" people expect from such cars, perfection can sometimes get boring.

However, I think that this car will sell very well, just look at the 991.2 Turbo S. People seem to want boring, they want a certain standard, a certain status quo, a certain class of product and they are willing to pay good money for it. The word bourgeois comes to my mind...

My Audi R8 is a good example: Compare it to the Huracan and you get the message. The Audi R8 is basically a bourgeois version of the Huracan, as weird as this may sound. To many Germans, the R8 may look like something exotic but in reality, it satisfies the need of something less in your face vs. the Huracan. A Lamborghini for people who want to attract less attention. I cannot say I like it, even for me, the R8 is a bit too conservative (the rear is a bit too conservative and the front lights should have been a tiny bit less Audi-like) but after joining a neighborhood "block party" this weekend, I nailed it with the R8 (more about it in the R8 thread sooner or later).

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Very well said, thats exactly the point. The new Panamera may not be visually spectacular, indeed quite sterile looking but it will sell well because it ticks all the right boxes for folks who want the best tech, the special porsche driving feel, practicality for 4, and no particular need to show off. Compared to the sedans offered by other German marques I for one have decided to go in for a S when it is released.

Yep - this is it! Bourgeois! It is good looking but as you say no "stunner".

But hey - even if Porsche would build an ugly shoe box they would sell it. The brand is fantastic!

Agree. For me they also should cancel the Macan, Cayenne and Panamera. And yep - that Boxster and Caymen we don't need either. Back to the roots - I'm not a shareholder and I only care about their sports cars and not their business success SmileySmiley

Do you really think someone chooses the Panamera as a family car?

I know so many BMW 7 series and S class owners and none of them is using their car(s) as a family car, more as a business car to commute comfortably.

I am seriously considering a RS6 as a family car though because in my opinion, this car offers a lot for the money. I just wish the RS6 would be a bit shorter (it is a pretty long car) and in winter time, I would be worried about ground clearance. No RS6 would have been able to go where I went with my Jeep GC SRT last winter in Austria...the snow was pretty high and the roads were not cleaned in Lech/Zuers. Ground clearance is the only concern I have with the RS6.

The Panamera Turbo as an alternative? I burned myself once with that first gen Turbo S, I won't do it again.

As a family car, the Panamera would never be my top choice, sorry.
