I think so; my dealer switched Conti tires on my 02 Boxster S for the Michelin Pilots (my favorite) at my request at no extra charge.

I'm afraid the latest 997 Carrera S get the PZero Rosso.
I heard a rumour that it happened because some customers made complaints about the "nervous" Michelin PS2 tires (which are indeed absolutely great, sticky like glue
) but it could also simply be the fact that Porsche mounts the tires they get for production and usually these are Michelin, Pirelli or Continental tires, of course ALL with N-classification.

I was just looking at the crests in the garage wondering the best way to line them up and noticed the 2 holes in the crests,so i will go and bend a coat hanger now

Is there any way to get PS2's on the car you are delivered? can the dealer specify in the order?
I don't want the PZero, and I sure hell don't want Conti's on my 997S. My 996 came with the OEM Conti's and I THEW them to the trash after a few thounsand miles
I know the new gereneratio Conti's are better but they are still more appropiate in a AMG, not a Porsche IMO.I have PS2's on my 996 and love them, a bit twitchy and stiff compared to others but thats the price you pay if you wnat sportier handling tires, and they also have great grip dry/wet.
I would probably berate the dealer for lack of attention to detail at the PDI.

Don't worry, there is nothing wrong with the PZero.
The Michelin PS2 just seems to be the sportiest tire right now available for the Carrera S but I'm not sure if all people like it because of stiffness, sensitivity at higher speeds, razor sharp steering-in setup and probably a very reduced lifetime due to the already low profile surface structure. My PS2 have been exchanged with winter tires at around 7500 km and they only have 4 mm profile structure left. Meaning: they last for around 9000 km (no excessive track racing, just hard street driving).

RC, concur. Pilots are the stickiest. PZero Rosso are 2nd best, but still excellent tires.

There is absolutly nothing wrong with Contis! Most people got a very bad experience from the original Continental Sport Contact, it was not the greatest tire in the world but it was also old and at the end of it's life cycle. The new Conti Sport Contact 2 and the even newer Conti Sport Contact 2 VMax are phenominal tires. Are they as sticky as the new Michelins, no, but the michelins are brand spankin new and the Vmax may just be as sticky but since the sizes are currently limited I am unsure of exactly how they perform. the Sport Contact 2 gives 99% of all the grip of the others (in N format, a bit less in non-N versions) with less road noise, longer tire life and great wet traction. Why pay for a Michelin, they simply are NOT worth the price!
BTW: I know the winter is almost over and those in the USA still haven't seen the 997 Conti Winter Tire here but it will be out for next year, dealers place their orders in May and it will be brought over.

But those are not the regular PZeros, those are the sticky (in dry) R-compound Corsa System the GT3RS and F360CS get standard, no?

Mine came with the original Pilot Sports - not the more recent PS2s. I was surprised by this, but I guess they're still a good tyre. They seem to quite abruptly lose grip at low temperatures though, and predictably they're not great in snow (Christmas day, M6 Staffordshire was interesting!)
