    sport exhaust

Dealer says Porsche will release a memo next week stating exact date the sport exhaust will be available. He says it will be for either March or April build dates.

    Re: sport exhaust

Interesting, I'll give my dealer a call next week and see if he has any info on the definitive date yet last time I talked to him he said it was expected for late March builds but was not confirmed yet.

Yep, March should be the magic month. Hopefully.

    Re: sport exhaust

Maybe the 3.8 sport exaust be adapted (even without Porsche aprovance) to the 997 3.6?

I'm going to buy a Cargraphic exaust...but I'd like more to fit an original part...

    Re: sport exhaust

What happened to the Memo from Porsche that was to be released last week?

How do you want to "adapt" it?

The Cargraphic exhaust may be loud but the Porsche sport exhaust (IF it sounds like the 996 PSE and the 997 PSE prototype I heard a while ago) has that specific classic 911 roar and this is actually what I want from a 911 sport exhaust. None of those sport exhausts actually provide more power, unless you add a set of high flow cats to the whole thing. I don't trust aftermarket stuff too much because I had a bad experience with Gemballa, Techart and others.
And if the "creme de la creme" of Porsche Tuning doesn't deliver products to my satisfaction, what to expect from smaller Tuners who don't have the money, technical capabilities, etc. to test their products thoroughly.

Ok, sorry for the in-late of my response, but I've been out for some time far from a Net Point.

    Now...

I've always been satisfied from Techart & Cargraphic Exaust, but listening to yours continuous praise for original Porsche Sport Exaust system, I've decided to evaluate the possibility to fit IT in may car.

What I'd like to know is only if i can fit the "3.8" 997S sport exaust on a "3.6" 997, without fitting problems...because Porsche inexpicable don't provvide to produce a Sport Exaust for my car!!!

    Thank You for your help/opinion.

    Re: sport exhaust

From my past experience and from talking to lots of owners, I think that Cargraphic offers great exhaust products and getting one from them surely wouldn't be a big mistake. But the PSE exhaust on the 996 delivered the "sexiest" throaty sound available, I think this is something almost all owners can confirm. The "problem" is: I heard a 997 PSE prototype once but never heard the final product. So I can't exclude that the 997 PSE sounds different, maybe not so loud, maybe not so "sexy". I think they only chance to find out is to actually get one installed. Hopefully I get mine end of february, maybe. And if so, I'll post a sound file too. But til then, we have to wait because to be honest with you: I don't know how the final 997 PSE will sound alike, sorry.
Will it fit the 997? I doubt it. To my knowledge, the 997 Carrera S sport exhaust will is "adapted" to the Helmoholtz Resonator and the flap control is also electronically controlled. I don't have details yet but from what I heard, there is no real chance to adapt it to the 997 Carrera (not S!). A possibility would be to try to adapt the 996 PSE but I don't have a clue either if this is possible. But chances seem to be better. And of course I can't say anything about power/torque influence, this may prove to be a problem too.

So for a 997 Carrera (not S!), the Cargraphic exhaust might be a good alternative to the PSE. At least until somebody comes up with a modified 996 or even 997 PSE version.

    Christian,
When you say that the flap will be electronically controlled "a la" Aston DB9, I presume, does this mean that it won't be possible for the driver to switch between normal and sport exhaust, through a switch on the dashboard, like it is currently possible with the 996?
    Thanks.

    Re: sport exhaust

Francois, I don't know. I "accidentally" saw that 997 Carrera S with PSE (I looked under the car after I heard the sound and saw the "vacuum hoses", I hope this is the right english name for these parts) but I didn'g get any information on it. It was a factory car...

I'd LOVE to adapt the 996 PSE with the button option "open-closed"...but I think it's a difficoult option...(may it be possible?!? Will it FIT?!?).

I'm not interessed to find some more power with the sport exaust, I'd like only more "PorshySound" !

I'll hate Porsche for not producing an official SportExaust for my car...it's a deplorable choice...(Is the 997 basis a "not so rappresentative" part of the market for them?!).

Cargraphic (I've already awn an Exaust for my Boxster, It was very good) I thik will be my "second but not least" choice...

In the order guide I have it says specifically the the sport exhaust (option XLF) for the 997S has the switch on the dash also

    Re: sport exhaust

I mailed my dealer on Thursday re. PSE availability and have just been informed that there is no production information available from the factory.
My dealer did confirm that there will be extra charges to retro fit PSE.
Has anyone here been offered a option price retro fit???

    Re: sport exhaust

BD : wait .....for 997S pse ,mount it without elecronic .....(if the S standard manifors/cats are similar from 3.6 and 3.8) ..
if not ....try cargraphic ...They work wery well ....
    ciao Capra!

Med. I ordered a 997s cab April build. Dealer said PSE would not be available for my build date. They said the retrofit would cost $3000 but were willing to give me a discount and install PSE for the same price as the option $2400 US. I hope this helps

    Bongiorno sergini,

To late... my bambino arrives in March. I had to delete PSE or lose my build.
Maybe I'll look at cargraphic, but what about warranty and is it switchable?

    grazie in advance

I heard that a lot of german dealers and international dealers are offering retrofits of the PSE (when available) at the same cost as if it would have been installed at the factory on a new car. Ask for it, it would be only fair.

I've tried already RC, I sent an e-mail but the reply was a big no. Dealer said it was a tricky job that required extra labour outside of the production line. I even mentioned that other people across Europe had been offered retro PSE at no extra cost (I remember you once mentioning sometime back on one of your posts) but I'm afraid my dealer seems to be quite mean in this area...I'll await your fitting and subject to some good reports, maybe I'll argue some more...thanks for thought.
Although, if other people have already been offered option price in the UK and are kind enough to post, I'll use there offers to strengthen my case

Seems that UK dealers, could learn better customer care from US and other European dealers

    Re: sport exhaust

I was able to negotiate a substantial discount on the sports exahust and the thicker steering wheel since I ordered my car with them and it came without them. Not only will they install it for free but they will apply a hefty discount on both of the parts prices as soon as they are available for retrofit. Came as a surprise to me since I never though our only dealer would offer that.

    Re: sport exhaust

I'm happy for you , but what is it about UK dealers?
    We get offered nothing

    Re: sport exhaust

Black Diamond, I also agree with RC in getting the PSE over aftermarket, mainly because aftermarket products do not adapt to the Helmoholtz Resonator. I can't remember the name, but there is this aftermarket manufacturer who made some cold air intake, and he called the Helmoholtz Resonator redundant. His setup looked like something that can also affect the emissions, if I were you I would be little more cautious about aftermarket.

    Re: sport exhaust

My dealer agreed to install it for $2400. They will put this in writing when I pick up the car. They also gave me the hard top on the 997s Cab for free which is $2300 worth.

yes, but was the free hardtop the only discount you got? if thats the case, you're still not getting enough.

    Re: sport exhaust

$2300 is it and that did not come easy They only have one 997s cab for March build. Probabaly can negotiate more $$'s in few months.
