Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

First ever Enzo, CGT and Ford GT side by side track test

    See:

    http://motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112_0410_lemansintro/

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

Interesting about the 3 handling measurements in the test:

    600-ft slalom, mph:

    1* CGT:73.2
    2* FordGT:71.8
    3* Enzo:71.0

    200-ft skidpad, ave g
    1* CGT:0.99
    2* Enzo:0.96
    3* FordGT:0.91

    MT fig-eight, sec @ avg g:
    1* CGT:23.8 @ 0.86
    2* Enzo:24.5 @ 0.82
    3* FordGT:25.2 @ 0.77

Why a stupid test at an oval? why didn't they take them to a real track and see what these cars can really do and how they compare?

Hmmm... not sure how I'd feel about this if I had an SLR in my garage

Why no Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren? The new carbon-fiber-bodied, 617-horsepower uebercar certainly has the qualifications--and Mercedes' Le Mans heritage--to deserve a spot in this test, but the German maker declined to provide a test car, citing ongoing high-speed-stability development.

    Dated October 2004.

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

Im sure they used Fords Yucca Track for free. I am not sure about scheduling tracks or how much it costs to rent Daytona or Road Atlanta wich would have been better, but at least Yucca has a 5 mile oval to get top speed runs with.

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

    ferrari--ford--porsche
    Braking, 100-0 mph, ft 289 301 277
    Braking, 60-0 mph, ft 106 110 101

    CGT braking is also superior

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

The Enzo hammers them in acceleration......damn 11.0 1/4 mile.....

Oh, it hammered the CGT in the 1/4 mile alright.

By 0.1 sec and 0.5 mph. What a difference!

yep, it's interesting the gap is larger to 60 but the CGT makes it almost entirely up by the 1/4. i wonder if some of the weak 0-60 CGT times are clutch related?

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

Ben I think thats a certainty from what all magazine (your favorite!) sources indicate. ALthough, I have to reiterate...it MUST have been a skewed test at nardo to have the CGT about 10 seconds behind the Enzo to 300 KMPH....I dont care about that wing, it cant be that big a difference..thats not even close! your thoughts?

    Sounds rediculous to me.

The CGT is a tenth faster in the 0-80.

It seems to me that the differences depend greatly on what metric is chosen and at what speed each car loses a little bit of time changing gears.

    Test Data
    Acceleration, sec to mph
    0-30 1.4 1.6 1.5
    0-40 2.0 2.3 2.0
    0-50 2.8 2.8 3.0
    0-60 3.4 3.7 3.6
    0-70 4.0 4.4 4.3
    0-80 5.2 5.3 5.1
    0-90 6.1 6.3 6.3
    0-100 7.0 7.4 7.3
    0-100-0 11.0 11.7 11.3
    1/4 mile, sec @ mph 11.0 @ 133.9 11.2 @ 131.2 11.1 @ 133.4

what's that first sentence - especially the parenthetical referrence - supposed to mean? i have no idea how the diff could be so huge. my CGT pulls as hard to 180 as it does to 80 - no let up whatsoever - anywhere. they did run em more than once, didn't they?

    If I had a hammer...

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

Ben, the first sentence, is supposed to acknowledge that I know you hate "magazine racers" and prefer insight from ppl that have ass-time in the car. But yeah, I would think the CGT was a fluke or something...

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

The rather obvious winner for real life use is the Ford.

You can actually put miles on it and not face the $$$$$$$ mileometer of depreciation and maintenance costs that the CGT and Enzo have.

I like the CGT's styling and engineering, The Ferrari has the inherent Brio and panache, but either one is really
nothing more than a limited use garage trophy.

Porsche might do well to consider offering a lower priced version of the CGT design using the relatively inexpensive Cayenne V8 to offer a sportscar positioned above the 997.

actually, the real life use of the ford won't even begin until they come up w/ a solution to the current suspension and possible fuel related fire recalls for which they urge customers to refrain from driving at all until they get a solution. there are many reasons the ford makes a much worse daily than i or many thought. some of the reasons relate to the idiotic design of the doors with part of the roof attached. not only do you get drenched if you use your daily ford in the rain, but the daily cannot be parked in a normal parking lot because the doors have to be opened ALL the way so you can get in with the roof attached to the door. this is impossible in 99%+ of parking lots when a car is parked next to either side you intend to enter.

as for the CGT, i thoroughly enjoyed pounding the garage trophy in the mountains again today.

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

    hehehe nice

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

The Ford is a "replica" and so you have to pay the price that design will prevale over function at whatever cost. I wonder how the Ford GT is going to stand afterwards if the 600HP light Shelby Cobra gets a go from Ford...

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

    Ben,

so you're finally enjoying your car? Good...

Reg. acc. times, these are just numbers! Guys, rather get the money to buy one instead of collecting acc. numbers. In fact I am actually surprised that all three cars are that close together below 100 mph!

The AMS/Nardo test was not skewed at all. Several tests in German car magazines stated 0-200 acceleration times in the range of 11 secs for the CGT. That is already 1 sec more than claimed by Porsche. It is more than likely that this underperformance will continue above 200 km/h. Unfortunately

yes, i've actually been enjoying it quite a bit since the day i got it. iow, i'm really glad the dealer forced the car on me even though their motives weren't so noble in so far as my case was the first and only one i've ever heard of wherein the dealer refused to refund the deposit upon cancellation. the clutch took about 2 to 3 days to get down completely (stalled it only twice in the last month). i've no problems with it now whatsoever - including inclines with or without cars on my butt. and, i don't ever use the parking brake for assistance as some have suggested nor have i ever used the "let the clutch out before giving any throttle" method. fwiw, larry's car with 4k miles rec'd a new clutch under warranty shortly after he sold it which was shortly after i drove it. so, i wonder how much if any of the difficulty he was having (and nick and i experienced when driving his car) was bad clutch related?

the ride height while being a PIA is not horrific except that it requires route planning and being ever "conscious" of entry and drive ways (and of course i can't pull the car in front first into my garage as it will bottom out vs. clearing by 1/4" if i reverse it in).

the worst thing i experienced when i drove larry's CGT was horrendous lateral hop during moderately aggressive cornering on less than perfect roads. however, i have never experienced this with my car despite considerably higher cornering speeds. the rear sway bar is apparently 3 way adjustable and i wonder if porsche has set the default softer on 05s than they did on the early 04s (ie: larry's car).

i really can't bitch about anything on this car (save for i long for the 1/2" factory raise kit porsche is claiming to be designing). it really is well executed and offers both porsche drivability with ferrari type excitement (ie: passion).

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

    MKSGR-

I bet your right, I dont see how they could screw the test up, but....I just cant believe that relatively close weight, along with similar HP can lead to a ridiculous acc. difference...at least it handles as well...(all this with respect to the Enzo).

Ben- Have you ever been in/driven an Enzo? hows it compare?

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

How much downforce does the CGT have in relation to the Enzo?

nope, there are only a couple in town and are owned by old farts who don't drive them.

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

    Ben,

glad to hear! Even McLaren-Mercedes is fine-tuning their SLR to improve brake feel and high-speed stability so there are still a few pieces to improve on those cars.

I believe that Porsche's focus on that model was to keep a certain amount of relation to its racing-roots. They didn't expect (or didn't want to) to receive so much complaints from users.

    Enjoy your car!

Re: Enzo vs CGT vs Ford GT Track Test

Ryan-maybe..still an incredible car tho..handling is beyond anything i bet...
