    997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

Hi. I have a question for you: for STREET USE, is more enjoable the 997s cabrio than 997s coupé?? I'm afraid by the fact that the chassis is less stiff in the cabrio but at the same time I think that on the street you will not reach the limit of the chassis.I'm doing this question keep in mind that for use in the street I think however to push hard the cabrio car as the coupé.
Please post you preferences and comments.

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

I don't like cabs but if I'd order a 997 , sure to have sunroof...

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

I think you should buy based on professional track testing. If you want the "better car" in terms of stiffness and handling you get the car that they say demonstrates that on the track. "Street use" is problematic since you can cause alot of damage before you ever reach the car's limits. I got a feeling the Coupe will outperform the Cab. You never see a Cab being professionally raced on the track.

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

Do not cheat yourself out of the fun of a cab there is no substitute

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

For street use take the cab. That way you have both. The softtop is incredible. You won't regret!

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

    Andrea

I have just taken delivery of a coupe for the first time, all my previous 911s have been either cabs or targas. I have to admit that for driving there is no comparison. The coupe is far superior and I don't think that is just because its the 997 vs my previous 996s as I also drove 996 coupes on occasions. BUT there is no doubting that in the right climate on the right roads, having the wind in your hair can't be beaten and if you can get 8/10s of the experience in a 997 cab then maybe that's the way you should go. I just took the view that here in the UK a sunroof and open windows was nearly as good on the 2 days of sunshine we have a year but if I lived in Italy.... I think it would be a cab.

Oh and I have a 997 cab on order for next year so we'll see how much fun I'm having in the coupe by then.

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

    the doubt still remains......
cabrio: fun, enjoy the sun and the sound
    coupé:sensation of protection,chassis stiffer,better acc. data

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

    I agree. Fun, sun, sound.

But I don't think there is a disadvantage regarding safety and stiffness. The cab has been designed and developed in parallel from the very beginning. And regarding acceleration they are almost the same and high speed is exactly the same. And because of the low weight of the roof structures you have a lower center of gravity and therefore better vehicle dynamic control.

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

Cab is great but the Coupe has a large optional sunroof and if you open both side windows, you get a pretty nice Cab "feel". Of course not the "real" thing.
If I would live in a country with lot of sun, I would probably prefer a Cab. I would NEVER EVER drive to the track in a Cab (sorry guys, I know there has been a long dispute about this but this is how I feel...no offense taken), with the exception of driver education events or maybe just some amateur fun with friends.

A Cab is also more expensive than the Coupe, another thing you have to think about it. And last: the 20 mm chassis incl. LSD isn't available for the Cab, not even on ROW cars.

The choice is yours I guess. Lots of sun, no track racing and money doesn't really matter? Go for the Cab.

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

as far as looks goes, i think the 911 Cabriolet looks gross... coupe all the way! Get a boxster S if you want a cab is my opinion

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

Why are coupe people so down on cabs as if a true Porsche can not be a convertible and by getting a coupe over a convertible is somehow the smart way to go ... ... It is a whole different driving experience and for those of us who love the top down nothing comes close . I think there are many 1st time buyers that read these posts and may get the wrong idea . For most of us who have cabs the top is almost never up , even on a cold day with the windows and wind deflector up it is really fun , and when the sun is out it is pure heaven . I do understand though if I pick up my mom she does not like the top down and feels like a fish out of water and some people just do not like convertibles . The point is is you like convertibles this is one of if not the most brilliant convertibles ever made , and the Porsche driving experience is not contingent on being in a coupe ....... And the real issue is if you like convertibles or whether you like coupes becuase both of these two cars are true Porsche driving experiences .

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

i struggled with the same dilemma for quite a while, actually. ultimately, go with what will let you enjoy the car to the fullest. if this means greater track performance, then coupe. but if you spend little time on a track, it's highly unlikely you'll reach the limits of a coupe or cab's performance potential on public roads, and if you enjoy the topless driving experience, then cab.

i for one decided on cab, april build. oh the agony of waiting....

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

Rear spoiler that extends 0.79 inches (20 mm) more than the spoiler on the coupes, the convertibles are capable of achieving the same top speeds as the hard-topped versions - 177 miles per hour (285 km/h) for the 911 Carrera Cabriolet and 182 mph (293 km/h) for the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. I think the 997 coupe and cab are really about the same when it comes to performance now ..... I know there are those that disagree but according to Porsche the differences from years ago are all but gone . They even have a new way of building the body reinforcements of the cab to match the stiffness of the coupe .

    Re: 997s......Coupé or Cabrio ???????

Cab is $10K more than Coup and those who can not afford it will tell you it looks gross.
