    997 GT3

Any word on release dates (US) for the 997 GT3?
    (My next ride!)

    Re: 997 GT3

According to GT Purely Porsche, they're expected to hit dealerships in Europe in the Summer of 2005. No word on the US debut though.

    Re: 997 GT3

seems a little bit early to me.. I think the cabs hit the dealers in summer, and the GT3 might be announced in summer or autumn... at least, that is my guess. Maybe together with the C4.

    Re: 997 GT3

If the various 997 versions are being introduced so rapidly one after another, it would seem to suggest the entire 997 production run will not go anywhere near as long as the 996 series ( late 1997 to even now ) . If it did, we would still be seeing some 997 versions being built in 2012 !

This summer? They must be joking.
Spring/summer 2006 is more likely as almost all rumors indicate lately.
This year is the year of the 997 Carrera Cab, 997 Carrera S Cab, Boxster Coupe (or whatever the official name) and 997 C4S. All together 4 new models...as Porsche promised.
Of course we're talking about the 997 GT3 street version.

Thats a bit stretching it, taking a range from 996careras that were early built in 1998 along with 993's but were MY99 up to out going 996 later models that are overlapping the first 997 models.

Judging by MY, so far, I see the 997 following the same steps as the 996, all they did different was introduce an new extra version of the C2 along with the C2:

    - carrera introduced year before official first MY: late 1998 996C2 vs late 2004 997C2 & new 997C2S
    - then GT3 version, Cab, and C4 version expected within first MY: 1999 996GT3/Cab/C4 vs 2005 997 versions
    - then the Turbo expected a year later: 2000 vs 2006
    - then Turbo-look C4S and Targa(?): 2001 vs 2007?
    - then facelift of the early introduced narrowbody carreras & GT3: 2002 vs 2008?
    - then cabs of widebodies: 2004 vs 2010?
    - then next model line being introduced withing the 997 range: 2005 vs 2011?

... both same 6 year MY range and same steps IMO, but you never know, things may change on the run

    Re: 997 GT3

I heard that the 996 GT3 had an increase of powerful near to 400 HP but it has a trouble with the rumor of the exhaust. In Porsche know that they can produce it due to noise. Let's them to work and we trust in which they do it as they know

    Re: 997 GT3

    I'm shooting for a 2007 GT3 997!

    Re: 997 GT3

I haven't heard anything about a summer launch of the 997GT3. So far, only the Carrera cab, carrera S cab, and the C4s are to be launched.

    Re: 997 GT3

Do you think this summer is too early for the C4S? I think they would wait until after the TT. I've mentioned it before, so don't flame me, but wouldn't a 997 C4S make the C2S the odd man out( ie a transition model so to speak), esp w/ a GT3 out right on it's heals?
I mean you're talkin' about a very limited market for a C2S with the C4S/GT3 around, esp if C4S sales trump the C2S sales as they've done this yr. JMO

    Re: 997 GT3

The C4S release would make sense AFTER the Turbo is introduced, wouldn't make sense that the C4S premieres the Turbo-looks before the Turbo itself. I never heard that happen before. But the narrowbody AWD C4 though should be out before the Turbo, once the C2 is out.

    Re: 997 GT3

FWIW, there is a spy shot of the new 997 C4S on rennlist GT3 forum, check it out, claims a Sept'05 release at the Frankfurt autoshow. Sorry, I tried to set up a link, couldn't.

    Re: 997 GT3

I would say GT3 not C4 S, doesn't look any wider to me.

But whatever it is I like it; as soon as I saw the pictures I'm tempted with trading my car's thoughts .

    Re: 997 GT3

and this is what was said in the comments section

k, we've done some more work to establish the veracity of the claims.

From our man in Germany who took the pics we've established

    - the car is registered to Porsche
    - the pics were taken within a 30 minute drive of Porsche's HQ
    - the photographer had a good look under the car and established it is 4 wheel drive
    - wheels had Carrera 4 inscribed
    - interior and brakes were typical for an S
    - it's not the new GT3 (totally standard interior including rear seats)
    - it's not the new turbo, because there weren't any side air intakes and no turbocharger
    - the photographer had to run away because the driver of the car wasn't amused when he saw him with a camera!

you kidding? you can always retrofit!
Actually, if the 997S behaves OK at high speeds and no front end floating anymore, then no aerokit for me, besides did you see how low that front lip is? there is no way I could even park it in my own garage with the -20mm suspensions
But how about yourself? will this make you take the plunge?

BTW looks like a CarreraS with an aerokit, not a GT3 from the outside. Its has sunroof, park assist and rear wiper. The aerokit is still missing the side skirts though.

Also notice the SPORT EXHAUST's tips! (very ugly BTW, one being smaller diameter than the other one :P ) this means the sport exhaust should be out soon? and that means my 997S is too!

I'm somewhat tempted . But I think is just the Aerokit they're testing on the C2 S I don't think this is either the GT3 or the C4 S.

    Re: 997 GT3

Great pics. I find it weird it is driving around uncamouflaged already. The C4S story still does not totaly make sense to me actually... maybe indeed a C4 with aerokit or so, but that is weird also... jsut dont know. Ayways, great pics!

    Re: 997 GT3

Be honest now - if this 1999 era 996 MkI GT3 -influenced folded taco shell rear wing were bolted on the back of a Civic , there would be much condescending guffawing on the internet boards .

    Re: 997 GT3

Counting the recesses for the turn signal clusters, there are NINE different visually trapezoidal " holes " oriented and sized every which way below the headlights.

    Re: 997 GT3

The rear wing looks like similar to the 996 GT3 1st edition

    Re: 997 GT3

Their "man" in Germany? Yes, this is a factory car.
To my knowledge, this is a GT3 and not the C4S. I'm not sure about the final shape of the rear wing though.
What the "man" from Germany probably mistakenly took for a 4WD system is the limited slip differential which is standard on the GT3. The guy who took the pictures was pretty "dumb", sorry to say that. Instead of looking for a 4WD, he should have taken a picture of the engine from underneath the car in the exhaust area. This would have easily allowed us to find out what car this is.

But I'm pretty 99% positive: what we see here is the new GT3. The brakes also look bigger too me, 350 mm discs instead of the standard 330 mm discs on the Carrera S.
Yes, a close-up shot of the brakes would have been great too. But anyway, we should thank the photographer for the pictures because with one thing he was right: the driver surely wasn't amused.

    Re: 997 GT3

In my opinion it is a car from a tuner. We have Techart and Gemballa in the area of Ludwigsburg and Leonberg.

    Porsche would use PCCB on a 997 GT3. A C4 with this wings? I couldn't beleive.

    Greetings

    AM

    Re: 997 GT3

I'm not sure about this car being a GT3, this car has sunroof, rear wiper, park-assist, and the "XLF" 997S sport exhaust (and the rear seats the guy said he saw). I think its just a plain 997S test mule with aerokit
