    Is 997 standard exhaust louder than 996 standard exhaust?

    Just picked up my 997 and it is amazing. Noticed that the noise from the exhaust is louder than 996 (standard exhaust). Does anyone agree with me out there? Does anyone know why sports exhaust is not available for base 997?

    Congrats on the new car. Yes, I've noticed it is louder than the 996. I've just got a C2S but had a C2 for a couple of hours today whilst they adjusted my gearbox, and it was definitely loud enough to get lots of looks. I love the way you can hear the engine cough and splutter when near a wall or in a car park.

    I have not noticed that, the tone has changed to a deeper one which may be decieving but the actual loundness hasn't, at least to my ears. Then again my 996 is a pre 2002 model and I have heard said that the post2002 996 carreras had slightly quieter exhausts than the earlier ones.

    Perhaps I should qualify my post - I was comparing my 997 exhaust with a 2003 996 on my road which sounds tame compared to the 997. I haven't compared it with a 996 with a sports exhaust or an older 996.

    I think maybe my MY99 is louder than later models and thats why it seemed similar to the 997
