Buy it in the UK. Ship it to Canada for track use. After 15 years get normal plates.
Problem is you can't ship it here until after 15 years...........
Technically it can get to Canadian soil but it will be stuck inside the customs warehouse for 15 years.

I believe they said something about developing a Corolla GR for the N.American market.

I am driving the A45 S AMG right now and I have to say this car is fun, even if the sound is crap. Quality is amazing but so is the price tag (the one I found is 77k EUR before discount).
The Yaris GR has one small problem for me...the manual. No issue for me, no issue for my son (I guess, don't know yet) but this car would be just a toy my wife and/or my daughter wouldn't be able to use. I know, I know, for 350-370 EUR a month (lease), this is actually not dramatic but still...another car which is limited to two drivers in the family only? Hmm...I'm still not sure. The A45 S is over 700 EUR a month, not really a bargain but quality is, like I said, amazing. This feels and drives like a small car but when you sit in it, you get the feeling that you are in a much higher class. Very difficult decision.

Without AWD system and with more weight (but same 3-cyl engine), not very compelling ...
One is a short-wheelbase homologation special with racing-developed (rear-biased) AWD and the other is a 5-door FWD 3-cyl economy car.

RC, 70k for A-class is just insane. Hot hatch cost no more than 40k. Above that price is pure loss after you get out of showroom.
The Yaris is priced correctly and limited to 25,000 cars worldwide it is actually interesting offer.

I would never buy this car... Still negotiating with the dealer, he wants 700 per month, I want to pay only 600. Not sure he will agree though, he is stubborn.
It is a very nice hot hatch (421 hp) and drives really nice (the turbo lag is worse than on my Biturbo V8 GLC63S though, especially in the lower rev range). I like how stealth this car is: Had a white test car today, with silver winter wheels, it looked like a normal A class, only from behind there was a difference and of course looking at the huge red AMG brake discs in the front. Sound is basically non-existent, what you hear in the inside is a sound generator. Outside, there is nothing. Can be an advantage as well in the city.

My local Toyota dealer told me that he has zero demand for the Yaris GR. The biggest issue seems to be insurance, which can get expensive for young drivers but also the fact that this car is really expensive compared to the standard Yaris. For me, the biggest issue is the manual. I would basically exclude my daughter and my wife for ever driving it, not that they really want to.

I showed the car to my wife with the idea we change her Mini Clubman JCW for the Yaris GR.
She said : No way. Are you mad or what ? I insisted explaining how special and cool the car is . She said : It looks like it is made for teenagers boys. Never will I be seen in that thing.

That's odd, why would they add an unknown hot hatch to their upcoming vehicles

Haha, just did the same thing, and my wife said "that could replace my (9 yr old) STi Subaru! Looks like a perfect city car and winter beater..." But, she is by now used to compliments from teenage boys on her STi hatchback... and she would be well older than your wife... different car cultures for sure though between us and CH.
Not sure why Toyota decided so quickly not to bring it to NA; could be something they know will not pass certification.

New plan: Wait a few years and buy one used. Keep it in Europe for a number of years and tour Europe every summer. Then ship it to Canada. Not sure if it will be a future classic, personally I doubt but then again I may be wrong.
