In an open public internet forum you have to be very suspicious, so I don't... yet. Or at least I don't believe it to be an issue or common ocurrence, but rather a rare failure that ahppens once in a million. Look here, here is another report of the same thing but with a 996Cab, yet I never heard this failure happening before on 996. (The above poster also posted the "same" thing here as well)

Could this possibly be connected?! The cars are both in Edinburgh and the mileage is the same.

Don't think so Carlos...why would the OPC be ordering a replacement engine from Porsche GB? I think you have it the wrong way round, the guy on this forum is from California and was passing on the story that a friend of his found.

I agree, we hear all kind of BS on the internet, but this is not the first blown 997 S engine story that I hear, and the previous 996/986 had some issues on this regard has you know. The base engine is the same, so let's hope Porsche has made some "corrections" to these flows on the M97 engine, but to be sincere, I don't believe they've done it.

You are right Ando, I got Cydog (996Cab 10,000 miles) and pskirk (997S 2,200 miles) mixedup since the poster here, tooner, is form CA and talked about the 997S 2,200mile car.
SO it could be the car you sported on ebay

The internet has advantages and disadvantages and many claims in internet forums can't be verfied, not to speak about gossip which may be born from such claims and I don't have to tell you guys how the words of rumours and gossip can be twisted (accidentally or intentionally) in the process of travelling from one mouth/forum to the other.
I did a lot of investigation over the past few months at my dealership, other dealerships and with owners from allover the world. I don't see any particular common problem on the new 997 which might be surfaced. In fact, I got a lot of positive feedback, regarding quality and reliability but of course there aren't many 997 out there which have run more than 10000 km.
In my opinion, looking at the first 996 models and judging from the production start of that car, the facelift, the 996 Turbo, etc., I'd even say that the 997 is one of the best 911 Porsche ever built regarding production quality.
But of course there will be always cars with problems, especially at the beginning of the production cycle of a new model. And, this is something we shouldn't forget: some owners have too high expectations. You can't expect a "lightweight" (compared to the BMW M3 or other cars in the same league) sports car with 19'' wheels and a stiff PASM sport setting to be noise free regarding interior noises like rattle/squeaking noises. And I already heard of one customer making complaints about that "Helmholtz Resonator" which creates that sporty sound at higher revv figures. The guy demanded a "deactivation" from his dealer, I laughed my pants off when I heard that and his dealer has now a lot of headache because he knows there is nothing he can do about it.
We already deleted one User who apparently made false claims regarding a "blown engine". He didn't provide any further information like dealership, VIN number, etc. and funny enough, he mentioned owning a BMW in his User profile, no Porsche at all. Such people are risking a lot, they might not even realize it. Because false claims could hurt the reputation of a company and making such false claims on the internet could lead to a serious encounter with the law department. I don't know why people do that, apparently there are enough people out there in the big wide world who have a serious lack of decency, honesty, good manners and fairness. I recommend a good shrink for those people. Maybe on of our Users who is a psychiatrist by profession could offer a special "Rennteam" rate for such people.

Before people get too cocky or high and mighty about the quality and reliability of the 997 and question the authenticity of anyone who dares question the Porsche Gods, let me go on record in saying that I too now have major problems with my 997. Further, if anyone wishes to search out my past history of postings, you'll see that I've always been very positive up until now.
So yes, these stories are VERY real.

New engine on its way from Germany, should be fitted today.
Having spoken to others it does seem to be a common problem carried over from the 996.
The one on ebay is not mine.

The ideia I had when read your post on Rennlist, was that you were the owner of the car, it seems that I got it right.
Can you post some pics of your car and give us some details like the VIN number?

May I ask why people are requesting VIN numbers? Is this a matter of not believing other posters, or something else I'm missing?
