Sports Seats or Regular Seats?

Hey guys,
From personal experience which of the two seats do you guys recommend? I sat in both for quite a long period of time trying to decide which one to go with and found that the sports seats offer quite a bit more support around the shoulders and the legs. The only thing I am curious is that for normal driving are they too supportive, too stiff.

The sports seats are fully adjustable so you shouldnt have a problem with daily driving.

Go for the sports !

Edit: Or was that the Adaptive seats im talking about ....

I ordered the regular sport seats (not adaptive) and I love them. I use my 997 as a daily driver.

I think it is a toss up. compared to the 996 I noticed the regular 997 seats are really much better. They even say this in the brochure.

ask 996 owners what they think of their seats. If no major complaints then the regular 997 seats would be teriffic. I got sport option package in a BMW a while ago and the seats were very hard and bothersome, makes me wary to try again. My reasoning now is if I really want the air bladders to hold me in when cornering like a maniac then I might get sport seats.

Be careful Porsche 997. I have had 3 previous Porsches, a boxster and 2 996s. The second 996 I took a cancelled order which had sports seats, admittedly they are not the new adaptive seats. Now I'm a fairly averaged size guy but I found that after an hour or so with my shoulders being pushed forwards by the shoulder boulsters I would get out the car in real agony.

In fact I only kept the car a few months because of that as it was too uncomfortable.

My 997 which I'm picking up in January has the standard seats with electric adjustment. For me as an everyday car that is the perfect compromise. I tried the adaptive sports seats but even on their most forgiving setting i found that I still had that sensation of my shoulders being pushed forwards which caused real back problems in the 996.

Only my view, I know a lot of guys love the sports seats but just try before you buy.

I have the same dilema.. my friend has the sports seats in a 996, and it is total torture... I don't know what to order in my 997... I want proper support for track use, but as a wide shouldered guy, I need to be able to rest my back against the seat back... I currently have an M3, wich people have said has wide seats.. they fit me just fine...
any one has a pic of the regular seats? or feedback on their support?

I have the adaptive seats and have to say that they are a significant step forward compared to the 986/996 sports seats. The lumbar support is just great (as a back pain sufferer), and the "shoulder pinch" is less tiresome than the previous model. However, the biggest gain in my opinion is the reach adjustable steering, as it finally enables you to get the seat back into the correct position for your leg/arm length.

Hey guys,

Well after sitting in all the different seats, I decided to go with the sport seats. I did find them to be really aggressive but I also found that they really put you in a true drivers position. I am quite sure that I will get used to the seats. I have had some back problems, and feel that they will offer me more support. Also I am not that big im basically 5'9 and weigh 143 pounds. Hopefully Im rite and i will get used to the seats.

for your size, the sports seats will probably work. anyone who is larger, and having this debate, i recommend avoiding the adaptive seats.

I ordered my 997S Cab with adaptive sports seats. I was under the impression that they were the same as the sports seats only with more "bells and whistle's". According to Porsche they can be adjusted to accomodate any physical build. Since I'm 6'2 and 190lbs I opted for the adaptive sports seats. I guess I'll find out in May if I made the right decision!!

jhjk04, sounds like you would have time to change your order. i suggest you sit in those seats. i'm your size, and don't feel comfortable in those seats. i ended up getting the regular seats, with the power adjustable option.

Trice, thanks for the advice,unfortunately the dealer did not have a 997 with adaptive sports seats or the sports seats. If there is someone, approx. my size, that has the sports or adaptive sports seats I would really appreciate your input! Thanks

Hey guys,

I am going to admit one thing about ordering my 997S going through all the options and deciding which ones to go with is the most stressful thing i have ever gone through. I must say i think i lost sleep over these options. The toughest one for me i must say is the seats, i am still worried about whether or not the sport seats are too stiff. I have an AMG now and i have noticed that on hard fast turns i do slide which i do not appreciate too much, that is one reason i chose to go with the sport seats on the 997S. I tried the regular seats and noticed that there is a slide too, the sport seats just plant you so much better. Hopefully my small frame and my age will help me get used to the sport seats quicker.

What people seem to be saying is we should be very careful about ordering the 997 sport seats.

I knew the 986/996 sport seats were impossible for guys our size.

So the 997 sport seats are PERHAPS do-able?

IOW, we should at least try them and maybe be surprised that we fit?

Or should we just order the regular seats and be safe?

Oh, I wear a 44 jacket (US men's size) Sorry ,don;t know European equivalent.

MMD,

I also wear a 44 (long) jacket (6'4") and the adaptive sport seats in the 997S I recently tried are VERY good compared to any other Porsche street-driving seat I have ever tried.

I'm 6'4" and tried the adaptive seats. Just great.
Some weeks later I tried the sport seats. Quite uncomfortable for me at the shoulders. I ordered the adaptive seats.

I LOVE ADAPTIVE SPORTS SEATS

I've had my 997S for two months; optioned with heated adaptive sports seats. They are the most comfortable car seats I have ever been in. I am 6'1", 175#. They make a great car even more pleasant to drive. Spend the extra money and get the adaptive sports seats.

So here's another way to identify the issues.

Are the adaptive sport seats MORE comfortable all the time, or more comfortable when making fast turns?

Are the regular seats really nice and comfortable EXCEPT when making fast turns?

IOW, if you didn't make fast turns in teh car would you consider both seats to be equally comfortable?

Why? Because I have to order soon and can't get my butt onto the sports seats to try them (dealer can't furnish me an example), only sat in the regular ones.

The regular seats are not as comfortable as ADAPTIVE sport seats (there are THREE types of seats -- watch out) ANYTIME.

From one "big guy" to another, my recommendation is to go ahead and order the ADAPTIVE sport seats -- sight unseen -- and be really happy when you get your car.

It's true - they're a bit spendy, but I doubt you'll be disappointed. And all that rubbish about your knee hitting the memory switches is BS. Clarkson complained about them but he's just old and fat.
