    Sport Steering Wheel

    Hi all.

    can anyone who hv ordered/seen the 987 give me some advice about he Sport steering wheel.

    from photos alone, he diameter seems to be very similar to the std s/wheel- with the thumb guard.

    is it worth the upgrade???

    the sport steering wheel is just as you said, very similar to the normal wheel, the advantage is that it has no buttons on the wheel

    The standard steering wheel is 375mm/14.8 in.
    The sport steering wheel is 370mm/14.6" and has what Porsche calls "a highly countoured rim and a round impact absorber.
    The multi-function steering wheel is only available in combination with the PCM option and is only available for the standard wheel.

    I personally like (and ordered for my 987S) the sport steering wheel because I like how the round shape matches up with the instrument dials and air conditioning vents.

    Yes it is worth the upgrade. Not big money by Porsche standards. The standard wheel is not very sporty looking as it looks to be the same as the Cayenne. I have specified it on my 987 S.

    I have tested a 987 S with the sport steering wheel and it looks nice, I think it blends very well with the air vents and yes, the sport Chrono.

    Does that mean the rim obscures the view of the Dreaded Wart?

    truth is I always felt the round air vents were an afterthought that did not blend well with the rest, however, after you include the chrono and the sport steering, there is a better balance of forms in the dash. just an opinion

    To be honest, I was so impressed with my all too brief demo drive, the dash vents and wart paled into insignificance. No wart on MY car, thankyou. Both the 997 S and Boxster I drove had the sport wheel.

    Mine is due 8 weeks today!

    how about in terms of FEEL???

    personally, i couldnt care less about the looks. they both look pretty ordinary.
    but if one is "much" thicker then the other, then its nicer to grip and feels more sporty.

    "Felt" fine to me. Nice and er sporty. Autocar hated that wheel when they tested the Carrera "S". But I have heard no other complaints. All I can say is I liked it well enough to spec it on my car.

    There's 2 sport steering wheels, one is thicker than the other, same shape, just make sure you order the want you want, the thicker one is about 250 Euros more than the regular sport steering wheel.

    Au contraire - there are THREE sports steering wheels, the basic one, a mid range one where the air bag module is leather covered, and the most expensive one which has a padded rim.
