ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

Just found out that the new absolutely friggin cool rims for the 997 and 987 (Carrera S wheels) do NOT fit the 986.
For some lame reason, Porsche has decided to change the whole placement from 5x130 to something else, thus making it impossible to purchase these 987 rims for a 986 car.
I guess theyre afraid 086 owners would just "upgrade" the rims and shazam! they drive what looks like the new 987.

You guys got any suggestions how I can get a set of 19" (preferably) or 18" rims thats look like the Carrera S model and will fit my 2003 Boxster S?

Doesnt have to be a Porsche rim at all, in fact I saw a nice Mille Miglia rim, that unfortunately didnt go well with Porsche.

    Suggestions?

Re: ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

Think that you may have been some fed mis-information...
I've seen the switch aroo on 996/997
Why would the Boxster be any different?

Re: ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

Dunno what the "switch aroo" is, but my dealer told me it couldn't be done, and on Porsche's homepage, under T Equipent for the 986, the new 987 rims arent shown.
Porsches homeepage provides no answer to this question as far as I can tell.

Re: ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

Won't work well, the overall tire/wheel combo is taller therefore you speedo will be off.

Only if he used the stock 987 19" tires. He could get new 19" wheels (if they fit) and put 225/35/19's on the front and 265/30/19's on the rear and his speedo would be fine...although there sure wouldn't be much tire there!

Personally I think the Carrera 18" wheels look superb on the 986 Boxster. Simple and elegant. Particularly if painted body colour. 19" rims on the 986 would look a bit like 20" rims on the 987 - silly, tasteless and out of place. IMHO. Like the vulgar aerokit on the 986. I do hope Porsche never offer anything like it on the 987.

I dont understand that argument about 19" rims looking worse on the 986 than on the 987. Did they radically change the size of the wheel arches?? And if not why would it look silly on the 986 compared to the 987?

Btw I have the 2003 18" Carrera S (T equipment) right now, and my car is silver.

Yes. Boxster 986 wheel arches, ride height, suspension etc were designed for 18" wheels, 987 was designed for 19". And that is before you start worrying about inaccurate speedometer readings, deteriorated ride quality, tramlining, suspect ride height and ground clearance. Your Boxster is a superb drivers car - why spoil it? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Re: ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

I totally agree. My main objective isn't getting 19" rims, but getting the NEW Carrera S rims. 18" are fine. But can I ?? Does anyone know?

Re: ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

Ok, now I seem to be screwed, cuz you cannot get 18" Carrera S rims at Porsche according to their website. ARGH!!
Any other cool rims in similar design?

May be you can't get 18" Carrera S wheels because the Carrera "S" comes only with 19" wheels. The standard 18" 997 wheels look very much like the 986 Carrera wheels you already have. But not as slim and elegant.

Re: ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

Ok, what Im looking for is 18 " rims EXACTLY like the ones on the picture in the first post I made.
These wheels are made for both the 997 and the 987 models. So the reason for Porsche to make them only 19" is not that the 997 only uses 19" rims.

They probably just dont wanna sell these rims to 986 owners I guess.

Re: ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

How about this as an alternative?

Re: ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

they are making a boxster version of that wheel.

    dont lose sleep over it

Re: ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

Porsche doesn't approve it, these wheels don't fit the 986. I know that some people do it anyway but I wouldn't recommend it because it doesn't have a technical approval from Porsche. However if performance/safety is no issue to you, you can still do it.

Re: ARGH!!!! New 987 rims dont fit 986. What to do???

As far as the speedo being inaccurate due to the larger diameter - in my experience the speedo is low by several mph to begin with, so the larger diameter might actually end up being more accurate than the intended size. And whats the problem with a few extra miles of added warranty??

    WHAT WHEEL SIZE??

What is the EXACT rims size thats will fit the 2003 Boxster S?
5 x 130, offset how many mm? Trying to find a wheel that fits.
