Fair enough, but does black and white thinking (ie: Porsche vs. the world) have to be so prevelant here to participate here? Why can't we appreciate the strengths of other auto manufacturers (instead of just the short comings) as well as explore Porsche's short comings (instead of just the strengths)?

Sorry but i just read this thread. Ben, you must know that Rennteam is the most welcoming, sensible MB on the net for Exotic car enthusiasts. If someone said half of what nick says or what you have said on occasion the low life insults, shunning etc. would be merciless and would quickly lead to a ban of the "outsider". RC runs the best MB on the web and the great majority of posters here have held up a high standard.

I'm glad all are welcome here and i like the mix of points of view.

What do homeless folks have to do with SUVs? If you can't handle living in a big city, don't try to pee on my parade. I'm not going to move to the suburbs so I have to follow you to WalMart.

Well I guess if you count fingers AND toes, that could be 'lots' to some folks. In percentage terms however, the number that use ANY part of a SUV's offroad capabilities is insignificant. You should check your facts next time.

I'm secure in my masculinity/sexuality to drive whatever car I like. Believe it or not, I actually have a pink shirt in my closet too! Shame that you feel compelled to project stereotypes all over this board. If it makes you feel better about yourself go ahead - I'm not bothered. Others may feel otherwise though.

No I don't OWN a Cayenne but I have driven one for a long weekend (enough to know about the throttle hesitation). If owners didn't notice it during the test drive before driving one, shame on them. They ALL drive like that so the average person (me included) would realize that it's not a problem with the vehicle.

"Uh dealer, my 911 has a problem. The engine is in the back. Can you fix it and move it to the front?" Sorry it's designed that way just like the Cayenne's throttle.

Paging new topic. Paging new topic to a white courtesy phone. Can we talk about something else now?

Re: Cayenne and SUV usage, blah blah blah

GD, what the hell did I start?
Yes, as far as I am concerned there is no confirmed RMS to date, but I'm afraid that will probably change, unfortunately.
FWIW, my wife uses her gigantic Expedition( a Cayenne would be childs play for her) daily. Hauling all manner of crap and kids. We get a ton of snow here on LI and the 4wd comes in mighty handy!

Re: RMS, why an issue at all?

    Little update;
Mine does not have an RMS leak, false alarm, my leak was the filler tube being cracked.
Secondly there is a guy from Texas on rennlist with a documented RMS leak on his 997S, check it out, just don't kill the messenger.

Re: RMS, why an issue at all?

I'm with Chris on this one. I personally will regard this one as "confirmed" because that poster "infestation" is a regular poster and its first hand confirmed knowledge. No reason why to suspect on this one. Its a "launch car" 997S with 7k miles BTW, not even a base 997.
That makes one in my book, noting conclusive yet but a few more in a short pediod and I will personally regard the RMS unfixed in the 997/987 (and there will be many more if its like the 996/986, though just a few isolated cases would not do compared to the 996/986 RMS issue).
And if so, it would be an UNIMAGINABLE disappointment for me with Porsche AG (the company, not the car that is).

Re: RMS, why an issue at all?

I agree w/ you Carlos. PAG's failure to deal w/ this is appaling. I know that in the US PCNA has shown goodwill, even after the warranty period for good customers ("good" defined as customers who kept their dealer service schedules) but PAG should/must do more. As a minimum, PAG should extend the engine warranty to 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Re: RMS, why an issue at all?

Porsche needs a complete new engine, dump the m96/97. Use the GT1 block from now on. I agree they should extend the warranty to 10/100,000. Alas, porsche does not have the testicles to do either.
I still love my car, but so disenchanted.

Re: RMS, why an issue at all?

No doubt Porsche will walk into the sunset on the RMS. Just fix it and keep fixing it, for those under warranty well, that's as acceptable as they'll get.

You will surely see a TON of '02's and '03's soon as they come off lease in the next year, and no one is going to be buying these things without a certified warranty.

As for the M96 issue, it's pathetic that Porsche has not resolved this years-long issue.

yep, even the a-holes at "try to get out of any warranty claim" BMW did it on their screwed up M3 motor. why can't porsche step up too (greedy, self concerned bastards)? they're already pissing on their "heritage" by cowering from racing and building (crappy quality) trucks. why add "crappy quality" to the new "heritage"?

997 brethren suffer RMS too, appears systemic

I can now officially verify for everyone that Porsche has NOT fixed the RMS problem on the 997 (and, now, I should add, presumably, the new Boxster).

My car (launch 997s) now has just over 7,150 miles on it and I took it to my dealer this morning to have the oil changed. I also asked them to take a look at everything else to make sure there were no problems. In the process of doing that, the mechanic spotted slight RMS leak. The necessary parts are on order now and the dealer is going to fix it ASAP early next week. Of course, I grilled my service advisor about the situation, explaining it was unacceptable and they said they are going to take care of it. He said they frequently fixed this same problem on base 996s (as I knew) but he explained that they key was fixing it early on. He said some customers with out-of-warranty 996s or Boxters would be told about an RMS problem but would not fix it due to the price (about 10 labor hours), which only compounded problems for such owners later down the road. Based on the experiences the rest of you have had (and what you have read), it would be good to develop a consensus about how "serious" this problem really is, given the launch of a new generation of 911s by Porsche.

This, of course, raises another issue. I definitely will NOT keep this car outside of warranty.

Re: RMS, why an issue at all?

Well said Ben. I, for one won't own mine beyond warranty. My next will be a 997TT or 997 GT3. Still love the cars, can't stand the company, any more.
BTW, they're just fixing it at the dealer, no shipping it back BS, they already know/expect what is wrong with it.
