yeah...been thinking the same way since I first rode in a 911 almost 50 yrs ago when I was in junior high/ middle school ...just STOP with the evolution of this or any 911 and for that matter any grown or manufactured for sale item  by mankind in the world ....then let's all go sit on the beach and watch endless sunsets forever and ever !

I like the slow change, I hate the Renault policy: every generation is a totally different design, makes the model look like a cheap trow-away-after-use car.

Evolution implies quality: making a great product greater, step by step.

I have no issue with that policy, just with the direction that the product has evolved (some years more than others).  The problem is that "Great" is a subjective criterion.  I think the car has generally evolved to be bigger, heavier, safer, more comfortable, and faster (with some notable exceptions in the 70's).  But I'm not sure that Greatness has always been served (often due to government crash/emissions/noise/economy regulations)...

What kind of scheduling has my car sitting at a port for almost three weeks when there is a boat leaving within a week?mail

my question is: what will the GT2RS sound like? more GT3RS (unlikely) or more turbo S (unfortunately likely)? and should i let go of my confirmed F488Speciale allocation and rely on my order list position nr. 2 at my porsche dealership for the GT2RS (he insists that he will get at least two cars although he did not get an R...)?

What's the current view on the 991.2 GT2 RS being "limited"?

    By number (like 997 GT3RS 4.0) or production capacity (991 GT3RS)?

Also.. I wonder if these spy shots have come out to coincide with the new AMG GT R being released tomorrow?

Peter, I haven't driven the 488 myself yet, but have two friends here in Sweden that got one each. Don't know about you, but they are track freaks. The first guy drove his 488 until he got his GT3 RS and I think the 488 been standing outside his house untouched ever since. The second guy tried to cancel his 488 when he heard the first guy compare the 488 and the GT3 RS, but is now stuck with it and come to the track days in his sons RS or in his 991.1 TS with cup tieres.....

Based on this, I would defiantly go with the GT2 RS if I where youindecision

Re: 991 GT2 RS (2017) - Rumors, speculations and gossip Thema geschlossen

True.... I have the same concern as you regarding sound. Not only for the GT2, but for almost all cars coming our way in the future. The regulations does not work in our favor. It's epic to wind down the windows in a tunnel and rev my current GT3 to 9000 rpm. That makes me happy!smiley

But I've seen and heard the 488 and in my opinion, the sound is not like a 458, so.... And I've heard that the GT2 RS is going to be a spectacular car, so I will take my chances (I'm no 1 at my dealerkiss) and hope for the best.

The next generation with hybrid tech will do the job...I think.

Also, it seems that the Turbo will get a "better" differentiation from the base models, I hope they stick with that.

I agree though, Porsche needs to up their game a little bit.

Driving the CGT 612hp, weighing 3100 lbs and no nannies was enough to tell me cars at that level are beyond my driving capabilities. I suspect that is the case for most of us though we would never acknowledge it.surprise

    Nick,

I have to take exception with your position.

The CGT may have had serious power to weight, but it was set up to handle with a propensity to oversteer.  Ask Bobby Rahal if you disagree.  Since I am a FORMER CGT owner and now enjoy driving my 918, I can tell the difference in cars with merely high horsepower and cars that are just plain difficult to drive at the limit.  The CGT was difficult for me to drive at the limit until I adjusted the rear sway bar to the softest setting.  It improved from difficult to barely manageable.

The 918 is not immune to the realities of physics.  I'm sure one can crash it if the circumstances are arranged.  My point is that it is so very much easier to enjoy at or near the limits of adhesion than was my CGT.

QED, a hot-rod-motored 991/992 with rear-steer and some gyro-assisted interventions might just be a pussy cat to drive right up to the limits of adhesion.  I think you don't have enough confidence in the potential for advancements in vehicle engineering.

Mike, I don't disagree with your premise. Some cars are more difficult to drive regardless of HP. You're an experienced instructor and yet you had difficulty driving the CGT which had 612 hp.It is a rear wheel drive vehicle while your 918 is AWD. I believe this makes the car more manageable. No doubt engineering also contributes to its track usability.

The GT2RS will have close to 700hp and be rear wheel drive. Unless there are nannies available, I believe even an experienced driver like yourself will find it difficult to drive anywhere near its limits.

It is not that simple... for example the 997 GT2RS has 620hp - and is very easy to drive fast on the track, despite RWD. Based on this I feel it would be unlikely that the new GT2 with 650hp (Smiley) will be far more difficult to drive fast. On contrary: I would expect the new version to be quicker and easier to drive considering the new 4-wheel steering alone.
