    Need some expert input...

I'm very new to the world of Ferrari, in that I've been a Porsche owner for many years, but as one other poster has stated, I think I've seent the light and seriously considering a gently used 360 Modena. In that regard, I need some input from folks on a couple things:

    1) The price: the dealer I'm working with is talking to me about an 02 Spyder F1 with 8,000 miles and wants about $185K for the car. On the financing side, he would give me $65K for my new 05 Porsche 911/997, which has about 1700 miles and I bought the car for $78K and is pretty loaded with options. Of that $65K, the dealer would then give me cash of $45K and then I would have to put the remaining $20K down on the car with lease payments of $2500/month and with a residual of $98,900. Is this a decent deal or should I run for the hills??
    2) I'm a bit confused as to whether or not I should go for the F1 paddle shifter or a good ole fashioned 6 speed and need collective thoughts on advantages and disadvantages.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

How long of a lease is it (years/miles) @ $2,500 per month?

The price of the Spider is fair and the residual is difficult to assess since you do not indicate the term of the lease but I assume it is 5 years. You can do the math and determine whether it is reasonable. Will the car be worth 99,000 in five years? Probably.

I have owned the 360 in 6 speed and F1 and I will never go back to 6 speed. The F1 is about ultimate driving performance. The 6 speed is about you working with the car to reach that ultimate performance. Very few do.

Ask for a test drive of the F1 and make sure the latest software update for the F1 has been installed.

    Re: Need some expert input...

Term of the lease would be 48 months.

    Re: Need some expert input...

Well put. The F1 transmission is unbelievable. You can't begin to compare Porsches and Ferraris. I own an '03 996 TT, it is a great car, reliable, fun to drive. HOWEVER, simply put, it isn't a Ferrari. Treat yourself to the 360, then get on the list for a F430.
PS. Ferrari dealers are much more reasonable then the naysayers claim in this forum.

    Re: Need some expert input...

"The F1 is about ultimate driving performance."

Amen, very few will admit this, there are so many 6 speed snobs. The Stradale F1 is the closest I've come to a Hewland racing sequential. Briefly thought about a 6 speed for my 430, but ... decided I'm not that much of a nostalgia buff.

    Will

Unfortunately, the wife put the cabash on the whole deal...usual set of words: will become a garage queen in that we'll never get to drive it with NY winters, etc; too much money for purchase, insurance, maintenance, etc; need to buy second car for daily ride; and on and on...still working her, but this may have to wait for a year or two...very sad:(
