How much turbo-power can one manage with only rear wheel drive and no nannies?

IMHO it is getting a bit silly when street legal cars for enthusiasts far out-power race cars for professional drivers. Then again, just my opinion and clearly there is a market for these cars.

650hp would be absolutely no problem - the old GT2RS with 620hp has virtually no traction issues at all Smiley

I bet it will be more than a 25hp gain after 7 years...

I guess there is a limit for just how much power every specific car can handle. Just look at Koenigsegg... Not even the Stig can keep that one on track

I think 700 hp will be great on the GT2, but to be honest I prefer NA cars on track so far. But hopefully I will be able to give you a better view on just how good/bad a 700 hp RWD Porsche is on track mid spring 2018smiley

I don't think so - Porsche always keeps an eye on the generation of cars that follow the new car. If they go higher than 650hp the 992 has a problem...

Re: 991 GT2 RS (2017) - Rumors, speculations and gossip Thread Closed

I think the car will probably be 650-700 hp.

Will be needed to get close-ish to 488 GTB, 488 "Speciale", 675LT, P14, and Ford GT while still costing less.

Re: 991 GT2 RS (2017) - Rumors, speculations and gossip Thread Closed

It will be a great question as to how much power a GT2Rs will make.

My F12 is borderline putting down 730HP, granted it is a front engine car, the GT2RS will have an advantage there being rear engined, but also the un-linear power delivery of the turbo system.

Also not sure if Porsche can tune their traction control as good as McLaren, who are quite a bit ahead in that department.

Driving the CGT 612hp, weighing 3100 lbs and no nannies was enough to tell me cars at that level are beyond my driving capabilities. I suspect that is the case for most of us though we would never acknowledge it.surprise

I think plenty of us would admit that a CGT is a pretty intimidating proposition.  But much better tires, PSM and other safety advancements, PDK or rev-matching Manual (rather than that difficult carbon clutch), and rear-engine traction make a 700hp GT2RS far less intimidating than a CGT, imo.

Obviously it is up to one and each other to decided what they can handle in terms of power and
2WD. The important part is to know your own limits and drive accordingly.

Even with power "nannies", the driver cannot beat physics (or stupidity for that matter). So yes, the nannies allow non-professional drivers to be sensationally fast in some of these hp monsters but it still takes a good driver to keep everything under control, even with the nannies watching out for you.

Just received word that my Targa is sitting at the port of Emden and will not get on a ship until July 8th. It's been at the port since June 21st. I also understand that there is a boat that leaves for San Diego on June 28th. What kind of scheduling has my car sitting at a port for almost three weeks when there is a boat leaving within a week?mail

You're probably right. I guy in the US posted he ordered his Targa in late April about the same time I ordered mine and he took delivery of his car this past week. With options his car priced out over $190,000. Smiley
