    it's possible???

    theese are my tailpipes ......
    no words !
it's funny that Porsche sells the same pipes but cromed ...in tequipment catalogue!

    Re: it's possible???

    ..

    Re: it's possible???

What the hell happened and how long have you had the car!?

    Re: it's possible???

    Is that rust ?!

    Re: it's possible???

    WTF!! what happened sergini?

    looks like your'e missing something

I'm sorry not at home right now with all my car mags to check this. BUT I remember being peeved that the steel muffler was welded into a Y. What is relevant here is that I seem to remember that there was a chrome or SS tailpiece/trim that came with the car in the photoof the welded Y I saw.

Is it possible they forgot to bolt this SS or chrome tip to your steel weldment? Or somebody stole it?

On the other hand if you are shy about the "fake" quads just paint them black and they'll blend in more.

I might paint mine (if I ever get them, that is).

    Re: it's possible???

Wow, Sergini, you better go to dealer, and ask if that is normal, and even more for such a new car as the 997S is.
    Good luck

BTW:go to my album gallery, and check the exhausts of mine..there is a great difference between yours and mines, I f I was you probably I'll go and check it out with the dealer

Re: looks like your'e missing something

Max, I think this is what you are refferring to, but sergini doesn't seem to be missing anything. The other one must be the chrome option.

yeah, maybe the chrome option, But I could have sworn there was a neat trim piece that slipped over the rough weldment. There was a photo showing this in AUTO magazine back in Sept or October. Maybe a pre-release arrangement.

Anyway: Sergini's situation really sucks if the thing is plain old steel. HEY! I though the exhaust system was completely stainless steel!!??

If the exhaust IS completely SS then we are getting excited over nothing: a little cleaner will get rid of the very superficial "corrosion."

The SS cleaner will add a layer of protection ( on a molecular level!!) which will easily and certainly stop further "oxidation"

    Re: it's possible???

That, my friend, is disgusting. Are they the same on the other side? How many miles/kms?

    Carlos' looks different from Sergini's

geez, looks to me that Sergini's tail pipes are made of plain old steel and Carlos' are made of _Stainless_ steel. The rust pattern on sergini's look like steel Also the materials look completely different.

    oh boy...

you guys can check with a magnet. Steel is very magnetic (duh) and SS is NOT magnetic or extremely slightly magnetic depending on the SS alloy

Re: Carlos' looks different from Sergini's

    Lets hope it's not austenitic

aw geez, now I gotta find that alloys manual from somewhere.

OR- just wait for the next post.

    Re: it's possible???

ummmmmm get some metal polish! And get those babies sparkling!

    Re: it's possible???

Definitions of Austenitic on the Web:

Stainless steel with non-magnetic properties. Austenitic stainless steel is very resistance to corrosion due to its nickel content and higher levels of chromium. Austenitic stainless steels are hardened and strengthened through cold working rather than heat treatment and ductility is excellent. The two most common grades are 304 and 316.

The family of chromium-nickel stainless steels often referred to as the 300 series of 18-8 group. These steels can only be hardened by cold working. In the annealed condition they are nonmagnetic. In general, they have good corrosion resistance, good formability and are readily weldable.

Stainless Steel ‑Non‑magnetic stainless steel. Not hardenable through heat treatment: good corrosion resistance.

    Re: it's possible???

Go to your dealer, this isn't normal.
It should be taken care of by the warranty.
Never saw such a thing, my car has 6500 km now and everything is fine (I take a picture later this day and post it). It looks to me like "Flugrost", I don't know the english word for it but does "flight rust" make any sense?
This isn't real rust and it should be possible to remove it but I would definetely let your dealer take care of that.
No, I don't have the chrome pipes and don't worry, even without the chrome pipes, the rear ends aren't supposed to look that way.

    Re: it's possible???

no problem guys ,next week I'll take the car to my dealer and we hope to resolve all ....i'think i'll crome the tailpipes.
the same think appened to my Audi .....

now the car has 15000 km ,works very well ....

    look at tailpipes now :

    Re: it's possible???

    Elbow greese seems to help

    Re: it's possible???

Aw d*mn, I KNEW I should have paid more attention during metellogy (is that a word) classes... I knew there was one kind of stainless steel that did react to magnets..., and I thought it was austenitic...:(

    Re: it's possible???

Here is a picture of my tail pipes taken today in the morning.

    Re: it's possible???

And here is a picture of my "garage queen". I hate the weather in Germany, I just HATE it.

86 degrees today (30 degrees C), RC. And no humidity like Florida. Very beautiful day here again.

    Re: it's possible???

Always look on the bright side RC; you do have enough toilet paper

I think he's referring to your "nuclear winter" survival-stash of toilet paper next to your Porsche

Do you have a certain "intestinal requirement" that you're not telling us about, RC?

    Re: it's possible???

RC, you can just send the garage queen over to Paris then I will keep her warm...

    Re: it's possible???

yup that's what I was referring to, no offense whatsoever RC!
    -Joost-

    Re: it's possible???

the metallic paint over the exausts is flaky
