    PASM

I know this has already been discussed to some extent, but I need to finalise my spec - do you think I will be making a mistake by specifying PASM on a 2.7 with "18" wheels. I've heard conflicting reports and one dealer has told me it actually makes the ride stiffer in normal mode.

I think RC is right - by the time you've spent Pounds1,426 on PASM + gearbox, Pounds717 on 18" wheels, presumably 543 on metallic and Pounds729 on partial leather plus a few other bells and whistles you are getting close to a standard Boxster "S". I know which I would have. On the subject of PASM badger your dealer to let you have a go in a car equipped with it and without it. My dealer let me have a go in the 997 (on standard 18" wheels, no PASM) and a Carrera "S" with 19" wheels wth PASM and found the latter, in PASM "Normal" MUCH comfier than the standard car without it. Road irregularities and minor bump absorbtion is in a different league. But the best thing is to try it yourself.

    Re: PASM

I agree with Dreamcar (for a change). you've got to try and get a drive.

I've gone for 19s and no PASM - having driven a 987S on Mon with 19s and PASM I found it perfectly comfortable with the PASM on 'hard'. But I've had various 'sports' cars over the past few years and my backside may have got used to this sort of ride. If you're coming from something a little softer sprung it may not be for you.

Now different people have told me different things about how the PASM settings relate to the std suspension but none of them have said it would be stiffer than the hardest PASM setting.

PASM in sport mode is much closer to the firmness of the equivalent standard suspension than PASM Normal. BUT in normal mode there is no roll, pitch or dive and the system automatically firms up if you start driving in a more sporty way. Despite Rich C, I am sold on the benefits of it, particularly on the larger wheels.
