I know this has already been discussed to some extent, but I need to finalise my spec - do you think I will be making a mistake by specifying PASM on a 2.7 with "18" wheels. I've heard conflicting reports and one dealer has told me it actually makes the ride stiffer in normal mode.
I think RC is right - by the time you've spent Pounds1,426 on PASM + gearbox, Pounds717 on 18" wheels, presumably 543 on metallic and Pounds729 on partial leather plus a few other bells and whistles you are getting close to a standard Boxster "S". I know which I would have. On the subject of PASM badger your dealer to let you have a go in a car equipped with it and without it. My dealer let me have a go in the 997 (on standard 18" wheels, no PASM) and a Carrera "S" with 19" wheels wth PASM and found the latter, in PASM "Normal" MUCH comfier than the standard car without it. Road irregularities and minor bump absorbtion is in a different league. But the best thing is to try it yourself.
