SciFrog:The Carrera GT is an old car now, 12 years, for ultra performance, it is obsolete, but surely a lot of fun too drive. I would never buy one though, touchy clutch, no ESP and lot of power are a recipe or for disaster...
True but still...the difference to 300+ kph was like huge...like more than 100-200 meters huge... I expected only a few car lengths. Not even sure how long the Carrera GT needs to 300 kph but I guess something around 30 seconds or so? Don't have a clue, never looked it up.

Driving CGT properly and very fast is pretty demanding & risky job compared to your new R8. Leaving your friend behind so much says just how gentle he was with his CGT (and that is understandable, since he can buy few of your branR8`s with his used CGT).
Nürburgring Nordschleife results say, for CGT 7:28.71, and for new R8 V10 Plus 7:32.00. Those are raw results that are showing how much those cars are really capable. Trick is, you can get out of your car much more today because electronic aid`s are working all hard work instead of you.

CGT has two problems, tall gearing just like rest of the P cars we see today and 0.39 drag coefficient 
(0.34 GT2 RS / 0.31 991 Turbo S)
As for the R8: The drag coefficient is 0.34 with adaptive rear spoiler retracted or 0.35 with it extended, and 0.36 with the fixed rear wing spoiler. (Audi brochure)

0 - 200: 9,9
0 - 300: 34,2s
McLaren F1 (cd 0.32) *depending on weather conditions*
0 - 200: 8,8
0 - 300: 20,3 ~ 22,4

Yes, don't get me wrong! It looks amazing! Somehow this car works with stripes, same as a GT500 or GT40 Fords..
I think the car is so wide with few features in the shape and in such a subtle color that the stripes help make it a bit more visually engaging without going full kinky gigolo like the italian version

I've never seen a R8 with stripes. ..On your car they make the roof line look flatter and lower and they work well with the body color......Keep them. They make the car look less somber. You might even start a trend for other gen2 R8 owners.

I test drove the R8 V10 plus today. Fantastic machine and that engine is epic! Agree with what already has been said by RC regarding the drivetrain and other bits. The R8 however felt too much supercar for my taste and you don't go grocery shopping with it, drive to work or drive to the golf club in the same understated manner that you can do in a 911 Turbo. The R8 also got way more attention than the 911 Turbo. Most likely due to the soundtrack from the exhaust and somehow it also looks more exotic. From an image perspective I actually came to the conclusion that I much prefer the 911. Also seem to "fit" better in the 911 cabin and the Adaptive sport seats feels nicer than the sport seats in the R8. This is of course a very individual thing. I felt like "i'm trying too hard" in the R8 and feel more relaxed in the 911 Turbo if that makes sense?!
One other weird thing that I actually didn't like with the R8 is the front window and the front. It feels like you sit too far forward in the car and almost sit on the front wheels and the front is too short and too low?! This is probably something you get used to, but it felt weird on my test drive. Also visibility is kind of limited compared to the 911.
In total an absolutely fantastic car and I understand completely that many fall in love with it and put it ahead of the Turbo S. But for me it is too much of a supercar/exotic and creates too much attention so I will pass.
The R8 has a very special and unique design compared with other supercars which is working like it is and without the irritating stripes. Take the stripes away. Trust me...

Actually, I think that black looks good on the R8 but it looks too aggressive. The dealer has a Lamborghini Huracan in some sort of matte black (not a deep black, don't know what the color is), it looks amazing but too aggressive.
Suzuka Grey is a very pale grey and just perfect for me and my "delicate" situation.
