    gusmlt:

My last car was a Mclaren 570s however an RS always intrigued me especially knowing that I shouldn't have the silly issues I came across in my Mc. Another point is me wanting to experience tracking the car which I have yet to do at the age of 40 !! believing that the RS should be the perfect machine. It might not look as exotic as other cars out there however from what I've read it should be amazing to drive plus 9k NA ;-)

GT3 RS is really a very good track car for amateurs and it can be modified to a higher purpose if you choose to.

Caution: Prices are/were declining, don't pay too much for one.

Personally, I would get one from an official Porsche dealer, even if it costs a little bit more. A must have is the Approved Warranty, it can save you from many bad surprises. If you buy from a private seller, make sure he has the Approved Warranty from Porsche or a remaining warranty period, depending on the age of the car.

Get a 991 GT3 RS, even the latest ones with particulate filter seem to be quite fast and "good".

That being said (I assume with age) I've decided not to go that route again with future cars. It sounds utterly fabulous, but the hassle on track and the negative reactions of neighbors after an early start-up etc... It's not worth it, it's fun, but I think I can live without.

I'm more on the "form follows function" side of things. If the sound doesn't serve a purpose, I don't care too much, not to mention all the hassle that comes with loud cars (as you pointed out). I posted that short clip because some were wondering how an OPF car sounds - it's the inevitable future I guess ...

If I were lucky to own/drive such a car, the OPF sound would have been a triviality.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

A short hint for those tracking an OPF RS. It seems, that the exhaust system with the two huge OPFs is more prone to catching pick-up (pieces of rubber) from the track. This is no problem while driving (it seems), but the rubber will immediately catch fire after stopping the car; happened to me three times this week, but my team fixed it immediately. I'll likely add a mesh of some sort to the bottom.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

Guys out of curiosity I have an option of registering my RS in Germany when it comes to insurance am I right in saying that it’s much more expensive then the UK for fully comprehensive ? They quoted in the region of 500-600€ per month 😱

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

insurance rates over here are close to alchemy. There are many factors that play a role like: who drives the car, km/year, how many contracts you already have with that company, got a garage for the car, where do you live, want to track the car, years without accidents and many many more. Overall you can insure an RS for half the price you mentioned or even less

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

Thank you for this I'll certainly shop around first.

Smiley In Germany, you can negotiate insurance individually. My insurance just lowered my Huracan Performante insurance rate (full coverage, 1000 EUR deductible) from 3000 to 2800 per year. Smiley The driving history (how many cars and what kind of cars, no accidents) is the most important factor here and of course age.

Example: A guy I met at a car meet got himself a Performante and pays over 5000 EUR per year (same insurance). He is only 10 years younger than me (55) but never had an accident (he claims).

I also know a 31 year old Performante driver who pays a 10000 EUR per year insurance rate at Lloyd's I think. The reasons is simple: It was the only insurance he can get at his age, my insurance and many others in Germany simply refused to provide insurance for his car.

I am actually surprised this happens since Porsche put a lot of work into adapting the particulate filters. Smiley It may be true what an engineer said about them: That problems will arise after a few years but I guess he was referring to some sort of clogging and not this kind of problem.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

Has anyone tried the Goodyear Eagle  F1 SuperSport RS  tyre ? They have been developed only for the Porsche GT2 and GT3 .

I starter on my car with the Dunlop Race 2  . I liked it . Great grip . Smooth slides . Good enough when wet . Just needed correct pressures .  It was much better then the previous Dunlop Race .

Now I have the Michelin Cup 2 N2 . Very happy with it , as always with Cups .   Grip is similar  or very slightly better to the Race 2 , but looses grip a bit more suddenly then the Race 2

I need new tires and I am wondering about those Goodyears RS or maybe the Goodyear  R as this one is ok under wet conditions, not so sure the RS one can handle rain  ....

From what I read, the Goodyear is more of a Trofeo R or Cup 2R competitor, with maybe even shorter life.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

I asked my tire guy about the difference between the Dunlop Sport Maxx Race and the new Goodyear this morning, but don't have an answer yet; it's the same company after all. What I can say is that the Cup2R are amazing and quite close to slicks for the price of durability and not working in the wet. Well, they are more expensive also.
    Thanks Kobalt for the link

I've always had an unreasonable bias against Goodyear tires. Other than bias plies on vintage cars I've never met one I've liked. Dunlops on the other hand I"ve always enjoyed. Good grip and a nice amount of "gooeyness". As you said, smooth slides, easy break-away.

Thanks for the link Kobalt , but that will take me a full day to watch indecision

Schmoll : looking for the feedback of your tire guy .

Dave : I relaie that now . So if Goodyear it would have to be the Eagle SuperSport R ...

.... and as Mithras said it, I would probably  also not trust it enough to try it out without a serious recommendation

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

    Gnil,

supersport RS is the race focused tire of the range - supersport r is the equivalent of sport maxx race 2.

supersport RS is an equivalent to the Michelin cup R but better ;-)

RS will be nice on track, but obviously with a race compound you will not expect miracles when wet. If I were you I would test the supersport R, and if you have spare wheels, a set of RS for track days.

    rgds,

Thanks Thierry . I will not try the RS  as I do long drives to and from the track so I need to be able to drive in very wet conditions .

Do you have experience with the supersport R ?

I found all these with the N ( Porsche approved ) rating .

Also my RS had a recal last year to update the software in order to accept  the Cup R tires . They also added a paper into the car's manuel about it .
