Being only 3 sec behind a pro with a proper car is quite an achievement I'd say. On my first trackday with the GT3 RS a pro driver took the Panamera Turbo from his customer and was 1sec faster than me ..  which made me slightly depressed :)

It's the classic 1/10 here 1/10 there and it all adds up. 16 corners on our track and and averaged out to be 0.2 a corner.

Panamera Turbo is not a low car on track, so no shame being slower. They took my Turbo S out one time too, and watching them pass other members in a pig is a sight to be seen Smiley

Nick, with 16 corners being slower than a pro by three seconds is fabulous.. Corners are the Achilles heal to most amateurs. Smiley

"Amateur drivers go too fast in slow corners and too slow in fast corners...."!

It's even more frustrating when I have full data logging, I know exactly what they are doing and I can't do itSmiley

I actually brake later and harder but they trail brake much deeper and get back on the gas sooner. The new style driving is V shape speed trace through corners, and I am on U shape and that's the difference. They carry slightly slower minimum speed in corners but they just accelerate that little bit faster out of it. Try as I might I just don't have the quick reflex of the younger kids to maintain control of the car if I get on the gas sooner. I just spin or get out of shape and had to get out of the gas.

I know exactly what you mean. Had my instructor drive the Turbo S with me on the passenger seat; that was no fun for the GT3 RSes. At the end of the day skills and steel balls are more important than the car I guess.
What always amazed me was how the f**k they can drive a  race when it's raining.  So I asked a pro and he literally said: "Yeah, you can't see a whole lot out of the front window, but because I know the track, I'll look out of the side windows to understand where I am" indecision

Yup it's no fun in the rain in the middle of the pack.

I had one race like that at Nurburgring GP track. The rain lights from the car in front helps, one learn to judge how far they are by how clear one see the red dot Smiley

I guess it is practice, practice, and practice.  Their reaction times probably aren't too dissimilar than yours; however, they have developed subtle cues that allow them to react at an earlier point.  It is much like how a great batter can hit a fast ball or tennis player can return a serve when the time the ball is in flight is less than the average reaction time.  The best react to position of the pitcher's arm or the server's racket, not the ball itself.

Watching my son playing (computer) games is just mind boggling fast. We also practice new tracks with a Fanatec rig and he does the Nordschleife in under 5:30 (with an appropriate car), something that I'll never achieve. Young people have more dedication than old farts and they are just faster in everything

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

I’m sure that he gets more practice than you too.

My son destroys me in GTA V and I am actually a pretty good player (level 282). Smiley

Regarding driving games: Well, they aren't too close to real driving physics and drive feel, so I wouldn't worry. I had my son with me last year in Italy, when we did some nice mountain roads driving and he told me that he thought we're going to crash a couple of times, he was scared and he usually is never afraid to drive with me. Truth is: I wasn't even close to the limit since I had my son with me and it was a public road, even if we had a car in front of the pack to "secure" the road. The roads were very small and curvy and it feels completely different than in a game of course. You don't get that feeling in the stomach in a game. Smiley

    That's approximately a 2'05"-ish lap.

For comparison, the last time Cup cars raced there, the fastest laps from the top guys are around 2'05'-2'06"

Not sure why he was selected to get the 935 but he is certainly deserving.

As for the car, I think it is the silliest purchase an amateur could make unless it's considered an investment opportunity.

    That is highly debatable.

Weissach created the 935 for their Motorsport clients. As some of these guys don't quite qualified as a retail client to get the limited road cars and they were complaining to Porsche about it.

Manny definitely didn't pay a single cent into the Motorsport program. This is a pure hijack from PCNA to get one for him.

This is the application form for the 935. He would have a giant section of it being empty.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

He seems like a nice guy, nothing against him at all, but being a limited number of units, he should not be getting this car in place of a real Porsche Motorsport client who wanted one, and reflects poorly on Porsche imo for allowing it.

Nick, you certainly qualified and deserved one. The problem is Porsche obviously used other considerations in narrowing the field. I suspect a good number of qualified applicants were eliminated.surprise

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

This is why my dealer “hates” limited production cars there are always (for good reasons) customers pissed they did net get one.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

I had great plans for a 935 had I gotten one. Which I told them in my application form. My car is definitely not going to be stashed somewhere in a warehouse like Manny's.

I would have run it at Pikes Peak next year and be the first to do it in one.

It would probably also be the showcase car at my track, customers and guests' track taxi.

perhaps also race it in series somewhere.

    All in my track's livery.

It's ok, I am over it. Already got proposals from Aston, and Mercedes. Well technically it's from one party, AMG. Plus Jaguar, which I had no previous relationship with.

Had I asked, I could probably get McLaren on board too.

Heck, I could have even do a Camaro, they are hosting their driving school at my track right now.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

Nick, can you buy a used one? You would pay a premium but if you want it that badly it probably can be had.

I know you love motor sports but this car is just another way for Porsche to soak some of their rich customers. Feel yourself fortunate that you didn’t get one.kiss

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

As I recall Pikes Peak ended badly for you last year so perhaps you should not have mentioned that in your application.
But don’t feel bad I can’t even get a GT3.  Been one the list since the 997.
