C6 Corvette vs 997C2S in Dec. Road and Track

I saw this on digitalcorvettes.com in the C6 section. I cant wait for this comparison, I have been debating between the 2 for the past few months, but decided on the C2S, I take delivery on Nov. 6th in Memphis. I look forward to participating on this board. I am trading my beloved 2000 Audi S4 with mods, it has been a great car. But I always said only a Porsche would tempt me away, and I guess it did. Seal gray C2S with Sports Chrono, Bose, Power seat package, and 6-disc changer, I cant wait!

    Iwaheed,

I don't think you made a mistake! Congratulations!!

The Corvette represents incredible performance for the money, but I doubt that it will be judged to have the refinement or sophistication of the 997S.

I just took delivery of one last week, after three years driving a BMW M5 and it is really a step up, so I'm sure the Corvette won't out shine it!

Hey pnoble, just curious. . .obviously the M5 is a completely different beast, but in what way is the 997 a step up? I'm recently-converted Porsche enthusiast, after spending 10 years in various BMWs, including the M5. They are not a sports car by any stretch (I even attended the M5 driving experience at BMW's Performance Center), but are pretty badass nevertheless.

Re: C6 Corvette vs 997C2S in Dec. Road and Track

    Frayed,

I had my '02 M5 for nearly three years and loved the car from the first to the last day, but find the 997S tighter, taughter, sassier, sexier...why is it whenever I think of cars I think of women?!

I am anyhow having a ball, though I am keeping, or trying to, RPM below 4,200 and it is killing me.

Everything about the car is just a step above, without diminishing the incredible E39 M5 and its practical and understated design.

The 997S is an incredible slot car. It is voluptous. The interior is great. The PCM really a step above the E39 BMW in every way. The mechanical feel - especially the gears - just wonderful. The steering, the steering wheel for that matter - all just more precise, tighter, but I will always have a fondness for the old M5.

from one great marriage to another!

Re: C6 Corvette vs 997C2S in Dec. Road and Track

    thanks. Understood.

Road and Track conclusion will be:

More hammering on the usual wussy R&T starements like "fantastic value for the money" and "Porsche might be seen as very expensive but possibly worth it"

Why is that Corvette compared to every car with the same con clusion: "great value for the money?"

I saw a Dolly Parton look alike get out of a yellow Corvette the other day; matches the Johnny Cash look-alike in a red one from a week ago.

Why not include a comparison the educational level, incomes and professions of the cars' respective owners? Heck, maybe even include estimated net worth too.

That would represent a complete review.

I guess I know where you're aiming at...

I have to say that the Corvette becomes better or - in other words - more European in layout, characteristic etc. Still a major reason to buy this car over the 911 seems to be its pricetag. Nothing wrong with that but it wouldn't make MY day.

I tend to go for the best possible, even if it is more expensive. Obviously a lot of people appreciate that way.
One reason for me to buy a Porsche, what might not be as obvious and important for US customers, is the way employees are treated at this company. Unlike Opel with its long-lasting odysee of GM board members in the company or Volkswagen which both seem to be in a major crisis and cut down costs at every end and intend to close down production plants in high-cost countries, Porsche is still relying on the same people at the same place since decades.

Re: Road and Track conclusion will be:

By the way, the Corvette and the 997 S set some pretty similiar numbers in acceleration despite the "official" difference in hp numbers. Not sure about handling and braking data though...

Re: Road and Track conclusion will be:

I had a C5 Corvette before buying the 997s...no contest...Porsche hands down for handling, refinement, fun to drive factor....power is pretty close

yeah, this means a huge amt to me too. I like a great car made by people who are dedicated to what they do, have alot of self respect and do NOT feel they are getting ripped off by their employers.

I'm glad to pay more for this, even though I'm not exactly looking for reasons to pay more. IOW, makes me feel more like the car is worth the extra money because the people who made it are special.

Re: Road and Track conclusion will be:

Max, you truly are sureal. With comments like you've made, you perpetuate the stereotypical Porsche owner that everyone thinks is a snob and shallow.

They don't bother me at all. People see my clothes and immediately can tell where I am socioeconomically and many start to hate me. They don't even know me! face it: driving a 911 I (we) are all turned into some ******* attorney-type in the minds of many.

Here's _MY_ bottom line. Huge gold chains and pants falling off, or gothic kids, or homelss wino, 99% of all people are deep down decent folk, I would risk my life to save theirs if I had the chance.

Meanwhile: on the surface, among these 99%, I find certain types statistically annoying and avoid contact with them.

As for 911 drivers: Did you notice how nasty and testy we guys are here in this forum?

Life is fun but sometimes a joke.

Re: Road and Track conclusion will be:

...this is a car forum not a people forum.

Please use the pronoun "I" instead of "we" when you generalize.

Re: Road and Track conclusion will be:

What does all of this have to do with the machine "997" and the machine "Corvette".

Aside from the Dolly Parton and Co. types, which I must admit, sometimes make me cringe when I'm driving my Z06...

Of course, you realize I am making fun of myself...

Re: Road and Track conclusion will be:

if you had to give up one, which would you give up Tour, the 993 or the Z06.

yea, thats what i thought. end of discussion

Re: Road and Track conclusion will be:

Hey Moogle, you been reading my mind? hehehe...
