    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

Maybe it was due to the internet video showing a Model X racing a 4C while towing a4C and kicking it’s ass. That might do it.  I won’t post it here cause it ruffles feather but you all can find it. Dealer here is selling new ones for $50 k. The new corvette also killed it.

Sure, only if american adolescents who care about such videos were the target buyer of the 4C Smiley ...what does a 2 ton EV minvan have to do with this thread of all threads? lets keep the Tesla plugging to the Tesla thread as we agreed a while back.

The only cool car they had...

I'd say the Giulia Quadrifoglio is pretty special as well. I was out on Thursday in mine with a friend who was the salesman I bought my Porsches from for over 12 years. He now works a specialist independent dealer and loves the Alfa and thought it was great value for money.

    IMG_4025.jpg

I fear for Alfa with Sergio gone (RIP) and Mike Manley in charge. The dealer network must be furious as they were pressured to invest in a whole new CI with the promise of a much wider model range coming down the track and now Manley has taken the easy option of axing all the interesting cars that Marchionne had planned. Manley is an ex dealer network guy when at Mercedes so he should realise that a lot of the issues Alfa have at present are down to poor choices to place the Alfa brand alongside Fiat in showrooms and choose dealers with no real idea of how to try and sell what should be a premium brand. The cars themselves are very good considering the level of development budget they were given and the very short timescales they were brought to market.

You guys are really funny as hell. Talk about sensitive. The topic was Alfa now dropping the 4C to focus on SUV. I love the 4C. Awesome car. But it is totally on topic to relate a 4C and SUV story which points to the possible reason. I also mentioned the Corvette and purposely did not link to the X video because I know you guys can’t ever ever ever take a joke. Oh my gosh . Grow some balls guys. If I wanted to troll this silly board I would do better than being so on topic.   Seriously.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

There were any number of review vids on the 4C, not just the jokey drag race Leawood mentions, and the vast majority were not that positive on the car's liveability on any basis.  Add in complaints about the ride, the hyper sensitive steering, and the reviews painted a picture of a car just too much of a toy, in a category that is all toys anyway.  Yes, real owners often gave a different view, but potential buyers didn't see these views, just the negative automotive press.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

The Guilia QV is a brilliant car. Ive had mine since new in early 2017 and its be the best daily driver Ive had since my e39M5 back 15 years ago. Its my one car purchase in recent years that has made me think twice about how special my Porsches actually are. In many ways the QV is a more special drive than my 991.2 GT3, although the 9000 rpm flat 6 is a technological feat -but just in differnet way than the Alfas Fezza derived 2.85 litre 505bhp turbo lump. I love sitting in the Sparco Alfa CF seats - the interior seems an occassion comapred to the Porsche.

My accoutant tells me I should sell the Giulia in teh next 12 months for depreciation offset reasons. The reality is I havent seen or driven anything else as a daily driver I would rather own (at any price). The fact the car will be worth less than at I paid for it by then makes it a great bargain for someone looking for an uber sedan thats under 5 years old.

Like you say shame that the dealer network is crap, parts slow to get and pricey and in our country warranty cannot be extended beyond 3 years.

I took a 4C for a weekend loan form a dealer. It was a LE like yours. A number of folks I respect with many expensive cars in theirc ollection own 4Cs and say they are one of teh funnest cars they own and one they are likely to sell teh least! Its a riot to drive. Stock its flawed when pushing on, mostly how it fidgets over the crown of teh road and comes totally undone on bumpy corners when really pushing teh chassis - though I believe both of these issues can be addressed somehwat by Alfaworks rear A arms/bushes and their shim kit. A bit more power and sound would be nice but I understand tehy have solutions for both of those things too. Id own one no problem (and make the above changes) as I found it a very refreshing car to drive - great for a 60-90 minute country back road blast to clear te cobwebs and remind you you are alive. With prices here half what they were new its probably time I started thinking more seriously about one of these. They will never make anything lke it again, Infact the same could be said of the Guilia QV unfortunately....

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

My first super at ride if you can call it that back then was in an Alfa Montreal. Awesome little car.  Personally I love the 4C and the Porsche dealer here sells them new as well. Thought about getting one but the combo of 911 turbo and 4C did not make sense as my second car needs to fit my 86 year old mom.  I won’t mention what I decided on.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

I have seen a guy at the Ring driving his slightly modified Giulia QV ( suspensions ) as fast as most of the GT3 / RS drivers . The car is very capable , on one lap at least .

The Stelvio QV is also a very good SUV . Better then any Macan .

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

The 4C absolutely cannot be the primary car, nor the 2nd. Maybe as a 3rd car for fun.

And it IS fun! But there is just too much compromises, primarily the manual steering for normal driving. And perhaps too much driving noise coming into the car.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

Yes the car is quick enough even with standard suspension. On our local track it is not too far back from a GT4 with same seasoned driver.

The brakes are the weakest point. If you have the CCB you could do a few laps at the Ring ok but the steel ones are not up to the task (but fine on the road). The factoru fit Corsa tyre are very soft but the Michelin PS4S or Cup2 give better life.

For me its a road car only and does the job very well....

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

There are quite a few people in the UK who have used the 4C as their daily as Alfa GB offered crazily cheap 2 year lease deals on the cars back in 2017. They appear to have got on ok doing so and quite a few have said they miss the car now the lease term is up and they've had to hand it back. I guess in my 20's or early 30's I'd have put up with the foibles as well and run one as a daily but agree with you that it is best viewed as a fun 2nd or 3rd car.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

Alfa Romeo certainly made lots of mistake in marketing the 4C and it didn't help either that dealers, in the beginning, were trying to make an extra buck by asking a premium for the car. There were also a few things wrong with the car itself but just minor issues which could have been corrected during production.

Bottom line is: Alfa Romeo didn't put all their effort into the 4C, which in my opinion was a mistake because this car had serious potential.

I wanted one, I signed up to Alfa Romeo's "interested customer" email notification but I got a reply over a year(!) after the car was actually introduced. Didn't get an offer for a test drive or whatever and when my local dealer contacted me that he has a 4C in stock, it was over two years into production and I wasn't interested anymore. This is how you get rid of customers you didn't have in the first place.

Maserati are re-using the carbon tub from the 4C for a new model due in May next year. An email from them referred to it as the MMXX (2020). There are no confirmed details at present but rumours suggest it may get the V6 from the Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio.

    This is the test mule.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

It couldn't possibly be in the 4C price point range if they are fitting a V6 to it. As Harald Wester is back in charge I suspect he saw an opportunity to use his previous pet project of the 4C to perform a quick, and much needed image boost for Maserati whilst they develop the Alfieri and replacement GranTurismo models. A V6 engine combined with the carbon tub will answer a lot of the critics of the 4C, especially in markets like the US I should imagine.

That's the problem of being conceived as a halo product to reinvigorate the marque.  Unfortunately, there wasn't enough halo for the price range sought by FCA.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

I made an enquiry about a 4C Spider Italia edition - have to say this car intrigues me, looks like it might be a fun roadster which might hold its value pretty well.

I'll read through the whole thread (minus the Tesla bits), but for those of you who have experience, how would you say it stacks up in today's context?  vs a 718 Spyder perhaps.  The light weight aspect attracts me - is this something which is very obvious while driving? Sounds like the original complaints about skittish handling can be dialled out with tyres and some caster blocks / geometry.

I think the 4C is even more relevant today just due to the fun factor.  New cars are so fast and refined that the 4C harkens back to cars that can be fun at 30mph as well as 90mph.  Every time I go to my Porsche dealership they have one or two 4C's for sale.  At current 4C prices I'm very tempted to pick one up as a 3rd car.

When I had my RS in for service recently I took one out again as my 'loaner' and found the driving experience unique and so much fun.  Handling wasn't skittish at all as the dealership has set up their 4C's with improved alignments.  As much as I love Porsche for an enjoyable driving experience for the price don't think you can beat the 4C.  And, yes, can definitely feel the lightness of the car.  Haven't driven a 718 Spyder but would guess the Spyder would feel very refined (and fast) in relation to the 4C.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

Thanks, interesting viewpoint. I found myself taking a friend out for a ride in the RS the other evening.  A motorway on-ramp is the only place you can light it up through a couple of gears.. through 3rd and you are looking at prison again..  And once you figure out how fast these things go around a race track public roads are just no fun any more.

That is one reason why I got the GT4 and not a more powerful GT3 / RS. Already the GTS was too fast for public roads.

Maybe you should get that 993 Carrera S back Smiley

A Lotus would probably tick most boxes too, similar to the 4C.
