Faster: This depends on how good of a driver you are. I'm no expert and so I'd probably be faster in a TT initially. However, if you're quite skilled, you'd probably get a little more out of the GT3. In a straight line they are very comparable if you ring out the GT3, but if you're lazy the turbo torque will make the TT faster. If you have a Turbo S, that will be faster in a straight line, no doubt.
Handling: The GT3 handles better, but it is more difficult to take advantage of it.
The GT3 is definitely more exciting though. Half the fun would be learning to drive the car well and using minor alignment tweaks along with sticky tires to bring lap times down dramatically.

It really depends on how good the driver is.
For mediocre drivers, the 996 Turbo would be the best choice.
For experienced and skilled drivers, the GT3 would probably be a good choice, maybe the 997 Carrera S with 20 mm chassis/LSD too but it really depends on the personal preferences (I love to have the PSM/ESP "safety cushion" in the background, especially for street driving).
For really experienced and highly skilled pros, the GT2 Mk2 would blow away the 996 TT, GT3, etc. all together. Excellent straight line performance combined with an incredibly good suspension setup result in a fantastic car.
If I would have had the money, it would have been my No.1 choice.
So there is a Porsche for every type of driver skills.
If you just want to know which 911 is the fastest on the track and the fastest regarding straight line performance, it is the GT2 Mk2.
But driving a "light", bi-turbo charged rear wheel drive 911 without ESP or electronic traction control system at the limit isn't an easy task.

I thought you didn't like GT2s as much because they weren't raced like the GT3s so you don't have all the motorsport support. Has your opinion changed at all?
