    Yes Ron, it said that it will have the X51

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    Well, there was a limited production "996 Carrera R" . That was its official model designation and was specifically by Porsche at the factory for a Dutch importer to celebrate their good relationship. It was basically a 996 Carrera2 with 18" wheels, Sport suspension, powerkit, and some other stuff as standard. This may be a similar job but for the Swiss.

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    w0w Carlos... you really did pay attention when you were told about our famous dutch autoshow, didn't you? :D j/k dude

    Ah, but was the Dutch model offered in a "chocolate brown" and "milk" varieties?

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    no, but it was offered in a bob marley "green" variety

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    probably just X51 and mabye PCCB, nothing terribly special

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    Are those tail lights "blackened?"

    I dont know why everyone is saying "blackened" - you know thats not a word

    Camon guys ... smoked lenses ...

    But anyways, i think the picture is just in black and
    white

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    A few days ago I've received a brochure from AMAG (Porsche importer to Switzerland) with some dertails of the Carrera 4S Plus. If someone would want me to scan the document, let me know.

    Basically it's a 4S with
    * Titanium colored "Carrera 4S Plus" badge on the engine lid.
    * A "4S Plus" badge on the center console.
    * Powerkit with 345HP
    * 18' wheels in GT3-look
    * 6 speed gearbox
    * Metallic paint
    * sports suspension (-10mm)
    * Lether
    * Digital Soundpackage

    The price is CHF 143,900.00 for the Coupe and CHF 158,700.00 for the Cab.

    Ah yes, cannabis green - beautiful color
    If you stare at it long enough it starts to change

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    Gregor, could you please scan it? I am very curious!

    Did he say it's amazing AFTER he eat it all in one day...?

    The 996R for the Dutch importer had water wings as standard...

    Any more info on the Switzerland Porsche?

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    Joost,

    Sorry for the somewhat less then 'perfect' quality but here ya go.

    So what's the story?

    It's just a c4s with some options, like any other c4s sold. In that case, every guy who bought a c4s has what you could call a c4s R or plus or whatever you want to come up with...

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    Good question!

    The brochure talks about Turbo Brakes but that might be standard already on the 'regular' 4S. I don't know

    Maybe it's somewhat of a price advantage with all the options?

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    its probably just like the other special editions like the 550 and 40th anniv, just an attempt to empty the parts bins. nothing special at all, perhaps a slight discount on what it woudl cost to order a normal C4S with these parts

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    Thanks a lot for the scans Gregor!
    And yeah, it is probably like the anni ed's, and the tt s, but well, it still is kinda special.

    The 550 and 50th Anniv. had at least some unique or until-then unique options like the GT-silver colour, the cocoa leather etc.

    I can't see too many differences between the regular S and the "Plus"-version except for the engine upgrade. Full leather and metallic paint is std. on that model anyways!

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    the problem with these 'special editions' is that they are not. exclusivity for everyone is not a good formula.

    i loathe people who buy a car that is produced nearly 2000~ and not too different from a car that has been produced in much higher numbers (i'm referring to the 550/40th). it especially drives me up the wall the way they refer to their cars as x of 1963, and special edition whenever they talk about it.

    the TT-S however, is special, because it is a completely different model, despite the rather short list of differences, it is produced in limited numbers, only 500 in the world, and only 300 coming to NA, just look at the 993 turbo S and its residuals/'brag factor'

    also it is simply referred to as the S, and not the 30th anniversary, etc, even though the release does coincide with 30 yeras of porsche 911 turbos.

    also, the price will garranty exclusivity, whereas with the 40th and 550 spyders, they were heavily discounted due to the transparently bad value they represented.

    a car should be special the way it is, and not require the owner to justify the purchase by having to state the X of XPRODUCTION figure, and throw out special edition mumbo jumbo every time they talk about it.

    the only real way to LOCK in exclusivity is through high price (carrera GT/mercedes SLR), limited production, or both (enzo, zonda, koenigsegg)

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    Funnily the 993 TT-S's reputation in NA is much bigger than in Europe. Don't know why...

    Fact is that you can order almost everything that is available in the special models in your regular Porsche. Their Exclusive department is especially good in fulfilling your dreams.

    In my eyes the 550 and 40th Anniv. editions were a logical step between the 986/996 and 987/997 models, in terms of looks, colours and characteristics.

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    I believe they should have made this standard on the 4s from the start.

    Moogle, as much as I want to agree with you having just also bought a 996 Turbo S, aren't you maybe just talking your book. In about 10 years we will know whether the 996 Turbo S is special from a valuation standpoint vs the straight Turbo with PCCB and X50.

    The key things that should help this are that the car has the new PCCB and its relatively short production run. Being able to call the car an S must count for something too. But have you had that 500 unit number confirmed by Porsche or is that from your dealer?

    In the end we will have to wait and see. I will likely have done too many miles on mine for that status to matter but YMMV.

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    you're probably right jason, wishful thinking on my part to a certain degree,

    however, the turbo S will certainly hold value better than the 'normal' turbo, by what degree, time will tell

    however i believe the S is an inherently better value, since it gives you 30k in options, and the S, for only 10k.

    i know many 04 turbo owners that were EXTREMELY angry over the introduction of the S

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    I'm getting a 996TTS Coupe as well, but I fully expect it to have dismal P-like resale value....but I don't care. Last I heard, it's 185 Coupes for US and 400+ Cabs for US...so roughly 1000 WW. Even in powerful mkts like SF, 996TTS build spots are readily available at MSRP....and brokers can get a next 2 mths build spot out of a high-vol FL dealer at MSRP if/when all SF/LA spots are taken. Let's be realistic....996TT was sold in mass volumes (2500ish/yr) and mkt was saturated (or supersaturated). Gotta view cars as toys that depreciate....if one runs into anomalies like 360Spider/Enzo, great, but enjoy the damn toy and assume it will depreciate heavily (and possibly break under exuberant use) and move on to 997TTS when it arrives in '06...

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    absolutely right VKSF, i've never viewed my cars as investments,

    since cars are depreciating assets in the long run at least, and only a fool would invest in a depreciating asset.

    its would be an added bonus to have a car maintain its value or even appreciate, however, i view the car market as being too volitile to 'invest' in per say, even with 'anamolies' like certain high demand ferraris.

    Re: 996 4S Plus

    I meant that the 4s should have had this package standard from the day it was released.
