    WAs on the Spa track yesterday. What a car extremely easy to drive on the track. Very neutral and good traction, endless power. Much easier to drive compared to the R8. Top speed on the strait 260 (R8 only 240). Blancimont I entered with 210 very cool. We were with a group of friends rented the track for 2 hours. Only 15 cars on the track. Lots of fun!

    Have to say was really cool no numbers on the cars no armrist etc just go on the track and have some fune. The track post were still there of course. The only issue is because it is in the evening you have some noice restrictions. (the AMG GT-R in race mode was okay though) One more thing you need to speak french in order to blend in with the locals! indecision So if you speak french you are invited!

    Some instruction is still needed, this is how its done!

    I do speak French but the problem is my car speaks loudly. :) What was the restriction? I'm having a more silent muffler fitted but it will still not be an EV... angry

    I would be cautious: the (ex-)AMG owners I know were all not happy with the car (mainly: gearbox and brakes). Depreciation is very high, which seems logical if several buyers resell their cars soon after getting it because they dislike it.... Not a sustainable product, if you ask me.

    I learned this lesson the hard way Smiley

    1. Never buy AMG cars, stick with the non-AMG powered engines and it won't cost you an arm + leg to fix or replace parts.

    2. Or you follow RC's method of leasing, drive it hard and hand it over when the lease is over.

    AMG cars never had good brakes ever. It's not even news anymore.

    AMG sized them to be wonder brakes for a lap or 2, or a braking test. 

    In tests they perform really well, but for lapping purposes they will overheat even after one session.

    I went to a AMG driving school once, during the morning briefing, we were told to go easy on the brakes if we want to drive for the whole day. Seriously, that's exactly what was said. And of course someone didn't listen and come back to the pits with the front brake literally on fire, had to be put out with a extinguisher. 

    This is as oppose to Porsche's driving schools, when they teach you to go as hard as you dare on the brakes, every corner, all day.

    At one Porsche school I attended the manual gear shifter became totally attached from its base. Literally I was holding the shifter in my hand as I limped into the garage. It was a 911 assigned to me. Maybe Porsche was sending me a message to get off the track.

    AMG cars are fantastic daily drivers, reliable, fast and whatnot but I would never get one as a real sports car or weekend fun toy. I would also never buy one, only lease them, same goes to BMW M models. They have a huge depreciation in Germany, almost insane. Not worth it.

    You have a good point

     

    may be the new filter or other issues, Black is always iconic and a very serious embodiment of the original, there is no way they can come up with a 4 cylinder and expect to be taken seriously no matter how much horsepower the car produces !!

    700hp flat plane V8.

    I remember when the C8 Corvette launched, one of the engineer who was testing at N'Ring  recalled  reading stories/reports/rumors that the car will be a V6/V4 hybrid etc due to the sound it was making at that time when  they were testing.  He had a nice laugh at all the rumors , and mentioned the lack of "V8 sound" had to do with noise testing regulations/data something to that effect.  Been trying to track down the article from the launch

    No, they did not. It was just an "Interpretation" of an interview with AMG boss Moers and what he said about future applications for the M139 engine. Smiley

    So far, it seems that the next C63 gets a V6 Biturbo hybrid and the C43 gets the M139 4-cyl from the A45.

    The AMG GT top models stick to the V8 but yes, AMG muted down all future models, this is something which they actually confirmed (future models being muted).

    To be honest: AMG will probably loose half of their clientele because of that, they just haven`t realized it yet. Even if the C63 gets close to 600 hp, the customers will stay away. The sound of these cars was one of the major selling points.

    But have you actually listened to the youtube clip of the GT-R 'Black'? That's not a muted V8, that sounds like a 4 cylinder engine. Unless maybe they fitted a flat-plane V8 to that model...

    Details on the new SL (2021) and AMG GT (2022)

     

    SL and AMG GT Roadster get a completely new drive layout without  transaxle construction but with 4-cylinder, 4matic+ and plug-in hybrid.

     

    With the new MSA platform, the AMG GT returns to the 9G-Tronic. Since  the 9G-Tronic is now flanged directly to the engine, these fabulous  acceleration values would no longer be possible. That is why the 4matic +  all-wheel drive with torque on demand (variable distribution between  the front and rear axles), known from the E 63 AMG 4matic +, is used for  the first time in the AMG GT and the new SL. This also generates the  fantastic acceleration values in the range from 3.5s to 100 km / h. Due  to the all-wheel drive, the engine is installed somewhat higher than in  the current AMG GT. Therefore, it is also possible that dry sump  lubrication is not necessary and is not necessary. For friends of the  well-maintained drift, the drift mode (pure rear-wheel drive) is adopted  from the E 63.
     
    Both models will then also receive the new MBUX system.

     

    Due to the identical platform, the new SL is lighter and more geared  towards sport. It is questionable whether an AMG GT Roadster will appear  later. The SL and the AMG GT are currently set. For the first time, the  SL will again have a soft top.

     

    Overall, you will be surprised about a 4-cylinder in the SL or AMG GT  Coupé. But as a prospect or customer you think from today's perspective.  However, Mercedes-AMG must also keep in mind that the 2021 (SL) and  2022 (AMG GT) vehicles come onto the market and that they then have to  comply with legal requirements and fleet consumption for another 5-6  years. Against this background, the decision is understandable. In terms  of "sporty" and "light", a light four-cylinder on the front axle is not  so bad either. A 4-cylinder will never be able to match the "lightness  of being" of an SL 500 (R231) with V8.

    SL/AMG GT 43: 2.0 / 4 cylinder enlightened ] / 390hp +  20 HP ISG (48 volt)
    SL/AMG GT 53: 4 cylinder enlightened] / ~450hp / 20 HP ISG (48 volt)
    SL/AMG GT 53e: 4 cylinder enlightened] / 500hp+ / electric motor on the rear axle (P3 layout)(~60km range)
    SL/AMG GT 63: 4.0 liter V8  BiTurbo / 612hp +  21 HP ISG (48 volt) = 633hp
    SL/AMG GT 73e: 4.0 liter V8  BiTurbo / ~800hp / electric motor on the rear axle (P3 layout)(~60km range)
