    nberry's forbes article on Ferrari

"If the aforementioned performance characteristics and equipment of the F430 sound sophisticated and expensive to you, you're right. Who pays the price? You, the Ferrari owner, do--thanks to both a stratospheric sticker price on the vehicle and the ridiculous maintenance costs for which Ferrari is known. Engine oil for the Enzo costs $72 per quart, and routine, 3,000-mile tune-ups of Ferraris can costs thousands of dollars due to all of that race car technology. As the saying goes, the candle that burns twice as brightly burns half as long. "

I hope nobody tells Porsche that its race car technology requires thousand dollar 3000 mile tune ups.

Re: nberry's forbes article on Ferrari

Low production numbers, not as efficient and effective engineering, desproporcionate spending on racing, etc. thats the cause of the stratospheric sticker price that you have to bite into if you want one. Race car technology has nothing to do with it, look at the GT3RS, GT2's or even just a 996TTS' performance compared to any Ferrari and compare price tags, maintenance, etc. All those "race derived so and so" plugs are just marketing for the naive. Ever see those Citroen TV comertials capitalising on the WRC victories with the race technology on their street cars?

There have been some crazy maintenance numbers thrown around for the CGT, but they bear no relation to the service requirements of the 996(7)s now do they? Similarly, the Enzo maintenance being attributed to the entry level 360/430 is absurd. The 360 gets a $1k service at 5k miles and doesn't have another until 15k! I wouldn't be surprised to see the 430 continue Ferrari's trend of even lower maintenance cars.

Re: nberry's forbes article on Ferrari

    Talking about maintenance...

when i got my 997s i was really glad and sirprised to find out that the first maintanance is at 30000km or 2 years

    not bad...no?

You guy's are absolutely right. Ferrari's are horrible to maintain with frequent and high maintenance costs. They are slugs in performance and over priced. Without a doubt Porsche owners should never consider moving a up to a Ferrari.

Nick, don't be so hard on yourself, they are great cars its just that anything will inevitably look bad when compared to Porsche's engineering, performance, handling, functionality, reliability, maintenace, pricetag, etc. Just deny to yourself Porsches exist and problem solved

But BTW, don't forget "safety" also
Here are the latest crash test results... in case you don't recognise it thats a Ferrari Uno... err... I mean FIAT Uno

    Hilarious!

Re: nberry's forbes article on Ferrari

Notice the weren't able to remove the pole the car is now a donut around it!

BTW, that little red line across the rear bumper means its a Fiat Uno "Turbo i.e." around 120HP and under 2000lbs on a Uno's chasis you can see why its literally "wraped around a pole"... it happened often with this car

Re: nberry's forbes article on Ferrari

    That's one strong pole .

Re: nberry's forbes article on Ferrari

That pole looks a whole lot like a speed camera pole to my untrained eye!

Re: nberry's forbes article on Ferrari

looks like a GATSO, no? maybe the guy in the FIAT tried to run over it but chose the wrong car to do it with

Re: nberry's forbes article on Ferrari

you cannt compare costs and performance, it has nothing to do with it, has anybody heard of suply and demand, Every body want a ferrari so you can put the price as high as you want.

Come on guys ... someone died in that crash. It isn't funny. Poetic maybe ... but not funny..

Any guesses where this is? Not Italy. Not USA. If the photo hasn't been reversed then it is RHD. I don't think it is Europe. The cars match Thailand but no GATSO in Thailand. Malaysia maybe?

Re: nberry's forbes article on Ferrari

Maybe it's a chop. Emergrncy services crews would have pried the car open to get any occupants out. The driver's compartment doesn't look like it's been opened at all.
