    Dave,

congratulations on the car. You finally made it... and I do like the Color, fits the car very well and you will notice it among all those green cars at the track days.

    Re: Pimped my GT3

    DaveGordon:

The engine sounds inside the car remain great, perhaps even a little nicer than before (and with a lot more torque).  What is more of an enigma is the 'sport' exhaust.  Neither Gnil or I could discern any difference from inside the car.  Maybe it is not plugged in? angry   I wonder if it is less on an on/off and more elaborate in the way it works, and perhaps only operates at certain loads, speeds, or throttle positions or something.  That said it does seem to have developed a bit of a rattle at the back so I wonder if there is something up with it (there was a recall/check for the exhaust on some).

Your assessment is correct, obviously the Sport exhaust can be differentiated from outside but there is no discernible difference in the interior as the intake „noise“ is much louder.

I think Swiss police would shoot him on the spot if they caught him with a radar detector. Smiley Smiley

Highly illegal in Switzerland as far as I know, they can (as far as I heard) even impound the whole car.

In Germany, we have a funny law: You can have a radar detector in the car but it needs to be disconnected. Smiley Yeah, German bureaucrats, you have to love them.

Same in Spain, the reason being that the detectors are not illegal to own or sell, but hey are illegal to use Smiley, it even gets better, those that alert of speedtraps through radar detection are illegal to use, but those that warn of the same speedtraps via GPS localisation are perefectly legal, both passive systems, one legal the other is not  1325269639981rolleyes.gif

Haha, can't speed in Switzerland any more... If they catch you they empty your bank account, lock you up and throw away the key, and take your children and force them to work in the watch factories with no shoes angry

Seems like the Waze app is quite good for keeping you informed about that kind of thing though.. Well, it would if my car hadn't just denied any knowledge of Apple CarPlay.. mail

Italy and Germany are neighboring countries, so at least you have a chance to enjoy your car properly when you need/want it. Smiley

It's odd.  Was working fine at the weekend.  Now I plug the phone in and it tells me to activate Porsche Connect (was also working fine a few days ago) and doesn't want to run it as an iPod or via Apple CarPlay..

Annoyingly my employer has told us not to upgrade yet as the Blackberry corporate app suite isn't ready yet..  Would lose my access to work stuff..

Yikes, time to move!  I can't imagine life w/o speeding every time Sun drives [I just watch].

In NZ if you go down > 40 kmh over, they can confiscate your car, but easy to beat by doing corporate ownership. In Utah the best speeders paradise - the ticket just goes up in  linear $ from 10 over to 60 over, with 80 mph limitkiss

    Re: Pimped my GT3

In Germany, if you stay away from crowded areas and keep it within the legal limits, more or less, you can enjoy some amazing country roads without risking to loose your driver's license. Of course if you go 240 kph on a country road, there is nothing to be helped with, you're a case for the nut bin. This happened during the last cars & coffee in Munich, two well known Aventador drivers had to have their fun and the speeds were just idiotically insane. This is how Lamborghini drivers or sports car drivers in general get a bad reputation from. The same were also responsible for igniting the grass on a golf course during a meet because they played with their throttle and revved the engines up for almost an hour(!). Funny part: The day after, they were both at the dealership because they had issues. indecision

Here in the UK the guidelines are if you drive more than 10% + 2 mph above any speed limit you get a ticket if caught and 3 penalty points. Drive over 100 mph on the motorway and it’s a 3 month ban. Accrue 12 penalty points within 3 years you also get a 3 month ban. Largely academic as unless you drive in North of England, remote Wales or Scotland the roads are far too crowded to even achieve most speed limits, let alone exceed them. Smiley

Do I understand you correctly: driving on the motoway (speedlimit 70mph) is no problem until 70+7+2mph = 79mph? On my way between Heathrow and my yacht (M25/M3/M27) there is nearly any traffic when I drive. I am always afraid of the “average speed” signs …

    Re: Pimped my GT3

That's about right.  It's partially to cater for inaccuracy of car speedometers, so if planning to drive at 79 (plenty of people do, or more) then hope your speedo is accurate.

    Re: Pimped my GT3

In Spain it used to be a general rule of 10% over the limit but no more. Each speedtrap device has different accuracy of measurement, and now in Spain the % over the limit allowed will be what is established by the manufacturer for each device in particular, usually not bellow 7% though. So as a rule of thumb at over 7% you can get a ticket.

The exception are mobile speedtraps, where the police sets them up manually, and in that case the policeman may set them up to only fine at a certain speed over the limit according to his discretion or his orders by the brass, which can be over 7%, or 10%, or 15%, etc. depending on how dangerous the road is.

Coincidentally, yesterday coming from home from work, I was stopped by the police that were doing breath alcohol test to drivers, was interesting since it was the first one I ever had to blow on the machine indecision.. wish they did more of those surprise tests for drugs and alcohol and less speedtraps, though less profitable for the goverment

    Re: Pimped my GT3

There is a large margin of error in all car speedometers. They mostly overread but never or seldom underead.

Check with a GPS device, even through a mobile phone application to know your car's margin.

This is correct -at least it’s the guidance given by Association of Chief Police Officers. Only guidelines though, no guarantee you won’t get a ticket! I believe the SPECS average speed system on motorway roadworks may not be so lenient (we have two years of misery on M27 you mention whilst it is being “upgraded” to a so-called smart motorway) Smiley

    Re: Pimped my GT3

Just got back from Mugello - great piece of machinery kiss

First get my racer's excuses out off the way:  I struggled with pick-up all weekend - maybe because it was a Cup event and a huge amount of rubber gets laid down.  Picked up so much I lost grip and was sliding around a lot, and therefore slow, got fed up and went off line to let people though, in the process getting more pick-up.  Tried hard to clear it with some limited success but still have tons now.  Net result was I was slower than I was with the GT3 last year.  Maybe one day I'll figure out how to deal with it..

That said, when I did have some grip, it's mighty.  The stiffer springs work really well on a smooth GP track like that, and you can lean so hard on the tyres it's amazing.  Also things like flat, fast left/rights don't upset it at all - my GT3 did roll considerably more in those scenarios.  You can feel the aero gives it more stability, and it doesn't wag its tail under strong braking the way the GT3 sometimes did.  I had it in all factory settings so even in low-downforce configuration.  Steering is very direct, taking the rubber out makes it very communicative.

At first it seemed like it was quieter/smoother than my GT3, but I wondered if it was the tyres.  It was.  Now it drives like the Flintstones' car and is hellish loud on the Autostrada.  The Bose stereo is good: you can run it loud and it thumps out  some old skool dance tunes with good effect.  Took my mind off my back problems exacerbated by forgetting to put it back in soft suspension mode before driving home angry

Now I have a lot of cleaning to do, and a little fixing.  A big chunk of rubber went through the protective metal mesh on the extraction side of one of the radiators, leaving the mesh clipping the fan blades.  Hopefully no big deal.

So yes, I love it - nice upgrade.  Was the monetary difference consistent with the level of upgrade from the GT3?  Probably not.  But so what?  You only live once.
