I think that is being saved for 50th Anniversary Carrera RS (in 2022).

Isn't the GT3(RS) the successor to the Carrera RS ?

It would have to be a GT3RS Touring of some sort.

I think the 50th Carrera RS will be more the successor to the 50th 911R with a bit more focus on performance.

    Rather pseudo-precise quoted lap times

Yet no precision about equipment (tires (both brand and condition)/PCCB/PDCC/RAS/wheels wt/no sunroof, etc) of this 992S; nor driver (vs other 991 times); nor variance of lap times, etc to interpret (to guess 992GTS/TTS/GTx relative performance vs latest 991 iterations)

Need to see directly comparable lap times of latest 991GTS w/full perf spec, fresh Mich PS4S tires, same driver, same day, etc to start to interpret

    Junk/fake data without such disclosure

Subjective impressions obviously may have placebo effects/conflicts of interests....as can pseudo-precise data made to fit a fake narrative

And, obviously, track performance is a different discussion vs mountain twisties, spirited driving in terms of risk-adjusted, heavily subjective performance enjoyment

Rather silly to judge a possibly poorly-spec'd press 992S w/possibly fatigued (?Goodyr or Pirelli; don't know that Mich has yet developed P-spec tires for 992S) tires vs a track, much like judging a GTx's performance vs mountain twisties w/possible damp patches, on track-optimized, possibly worn-out tires....esp if one judges properly-spec'd cars w/fresh &latest/greatest mfr-spec tires in terms of risk-adjusted, real-world performance....not flat, smooth tracks in ideal weather w/no oncoming cars, blind corners, etc

Diminishing marginal returns?  There are physical limits to how quickly a car can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h based on the tractive forces the tires can apply to the road surface.  A Tesla Model S with ludicrous+ is essential at the limits of traction for the tires.  Note that traditionally, automakers have ensured that the braking system of a road car would reach that traction limit while acceleration forces would comfortably be below that limit as a safety buffer.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

An English Tuner Has Boosted the New Porsche 911 Carrera S to a Claimed 572 HP

Litchfield says it was able to make this huge gain with just a simple ECU remap.

the company measured the 992 Carrera S as generating 475 crank  horsepower (Porsche's official figure is a likely conservative 444 hp). That means the tune is good for nearly 100 horsepower, and torque rises  from 390 to 480 lb-ft. Yes, that's 911 Turbo S territory.

No hardware changes need to be made to achieve these gains, and  smoothness and drivability apparently haven't been impacted. He told us  the significant power bump comes from a less-restrictive turbo manifold than the one used in the old 911 Carrera S and GTS.

The price for all this is £1194.00 including tax, which at the time of writing, is equivalent to $1467.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

Interesting. But I have to say that I have modified many of my Porsches over the years, but it’s never been as productive or as easy as it was made out to be. I have finally come around to just leaving everything stock.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

That won't be hard to spot and void its warranty or whenever the engine starts spitting bits and pieces of the conrod angry

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

So. it would seems the 992 comes standard with lithium 12V battery. Not the old AGM battery.

There is a stop sale already for the 992. The lithium battery connector might 'fail' and caused engine to stall and loss of steering.

Hmmm... a sneaky way to report a smaller weight gain for the 992 over 991?

Makes sense in reducing the number of redundancies as the 992 moves toward a hybrid configuration.  Note that Volkswagen Group has introduced two mild hybrid systems: One is 12 volt and the other is 48 volt.  The 48 volt system, for the time being, requires an additional 12 volt system for most of the car’s ancillaries.  Combining into one overall system will increase reliability while reducing weight.  Given that automakers are risk adverse, trialing some components on more mass market products is advantageous.  Porsche already has the lithium ion battery as an option for the GT cars, which tend to be less daily drivers and as a consequence see less inclement weather conditions.

    911(964) Carrera RS: 8:23.12s(+52.71s) _____ (Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R N0)

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

    " Some translations :

    Nurburgring
The two cars could not be more different. The 964 RS convinces with largely precise and neutral handling, as long as it does not hit bumps. The 992 Carrera S remains largely neutral on the Nordschleife, but it is more at ease in fast corners. The balance in slow corners is less serere and slight steering understeer and load change reactions are noticeable here.

    Hockenheim
Analogous to the Nordschleife, the 992 shows a similar handling on the GP track: great driving stability in fast corners as well as changing between slight understeer and oversteer balance in slow corners. The 964 RS feels much more comfortable on the almost potholed slope than on the Nordschleife. Its huge steering angle requirement requires a major conversion compared to the precise 992 steering. When braking, the 964 RS shines with late braking points. The ABS control fits surprisingly well with the high grip level of the Trofeo tires.

    Slalom
The rear axle steering of the 992 has a stabilizing effect in big radius curves, but the synthetic handling makes the feeling for the real limit more difficult. The narrow ridge between pushing rear and oversteer is difficult to assess. The 964 offers much more feedback and can be easily controlled with its honest handling oversteer at the limit.

    Lateral acceleration
Why the 964 Carrera RS with its more uncompromising dry grip tires Trofeo R not nearly reaches lateral acceleration values like the 992 Carrera S, although this carries with the Pirelli PZero NA1 an allround tire? Regardless of the tire choice, it is clear what progress has been achieved over the decades in terms of suspension and aerodynamics.

    Evasion test
The 992 drives a run like on rails and the next one completely across. In the complex system of electronic dynamic aids, the driver is just a lever, the sense of the limit is lost. Exactly the opposite is the case with the 964. Its somewhat spongy handling can be compensated by 100% feedback. The narrow body helps with limited lane width. Personal note : this is where the 992 lost most of its points versus the991.2 (which scored 14/15 here). This is not a common issue with the 992's handling, but I have already seen a complaint in Automovil with regards to a certain unbalance related to rear wheels steering in medium curves. "
