Well it sounds a bit like F1, but then again, they sound awful.

Somebody I know was at an AMG event recently and was able to check out the new AMG GT Black Series. When he asked why the engine sounds so muted, one of the by-standers (he didn't know if it is an AMG employee or another invited person) said this is because it is a V6 Biturbo. He thought this is a joke but later on, during a small get-together, another person kind of "confirmed" this.
I cannot believe it that the Black Series has a V6 Biturbo but I wouldn't be surprised either.

The demise of AMG brand within the next 10 - 15 years
My dealer has plenty of C63's and E63's that aren't moving, can't imagine what would happen with V6 engines in future cars

I would never get a C63 or E63 with a V6 but when I talked about this to a car sales guys last week, I got an interesting argument. He said that if there aren't any V8 anymore available and all engines are basically the same or even electric, what choice would I have? He kind of spooked me because I know he could be right. If all manufacturers go the same way, what choice do you have in the future if you need a new car?! Sad.
I even caught myself "plotting" getting an EV as my next company car because there would be a serious fiscal advantage to this. A Tesla 3 comes on my mind, cheap and AWD (Performance) but then again, I don't want an EV.

Its definitely a "dfferent" AMG V8 biturbo confirmed by Tobias Moers:

The only thing Moers apparently said was: Yes, it will have the same block and cylinder heads as the M178 V8, but Moers says it’s a different engine and “not a typical AMG V8.
Now this can be interpreted in many different ways but no matter what engine, it doesn't sound like a typical AMG V8, which is sad.

Flat plane would really be a shame, would basically make AMG's sound like BMW M V8's...

Porker:Flat plane would really be a shame, would basically make AMG's sound like BMW M V8's...
This could explain why that guy I talked to said the Black Series sounded like crap...
I mean why would someone buy a C63 or E63 without sound? I get it, a sports car may be a different story if it handles nicely but a sedan?

That really looks bad. Think Mercedes has misjudged this one severely.

I don't think it looks bad, more that it lacks real beauty. I really wonder who will buy those cars though... AMG is not reall a brand that kids have posters of in their bedroom. It is like those high-end Seiko watches... if I had to burn 10k on a watch, would I spend it on a Seiko? No matter how beautiful the watch is, for that money there are much more awe-inspiring options.

The car needs to be seen without camouflage, it is too early to make a (final) judgement. Also, it needs to be seen live.
The sound is OK for this kind of engine but make no mistake, all new cars will be quieter, including high performance sports cars. I am actually surprised that Mercedes was able to pull off this kind of engine when it comes to emissions and sound emissions limitations.

Amg one engine is a technological tour de force but frankly who cares ?
hybrid era doesn't necessarily mean boring engine sound wise .
On the other side , reliable sources in Italy said Ferrari is plotting a brand new V12.
All is not lost !
The Mercedes-AMG Project ONE enters its next phase of development, taking the hypercar to the track. For the first time, we’re testing the comprehensively electrified and highly complex hybrid power unit with its final, full powertrain output of more than 1000 hp.
The AMG ONE’s fully-functional active aerodynamics is also being put to the test, evaluating the interplay between several active components such as the louvers, air outlets in the front fenders, and the large rear spoiler.
Next testing ground: Nürburgring. Stay tuned.

4trac:Topspeed:Jean:What is the rebuild cycle of this engine? Every 10,000 km?
50,000 kilometers (31,070 miles)
So basically, no owner on earth will ever need a rebuild....
You are mean...

I'm afraid so...this is what GerCollector had a serious argument about with Munich Collector (oh boy, this is so weird to use some stupid Instagram name instead of the real ones ). Both have ordered the car.
