    Panamera Turbo S e-Hybrid

Car has just arrived at the dealership. Probably gonna pick it up within a couple of weeks depending on my schedule.

I think it's the saddle brown leather, honestly forgot what I had ordered. The real color of the leather is about 3 shades darker than what the camera shows.

    IMG_0663.JPG

Those matrix headlights just look damn fine to me.

Another option that I had completely forgot about. Leather wrapped key. I had always thought I picked painted key

    Congratulations!  You'll enjoy it.

Mine has 21,000-ish miles on it, now.

If one disregards the electricity costs, it's averaged 30.2 Miles/Gallon (USA) on petrol consumption for the life of the car.

I charge it every night for next-day use.

That translate to just under 8L/100km! Pretty amazing consider the performance. But then again my 918 averaged 12.4L/100km lifetime, that's just under 19mpg, amazing too considered I had been hammering it on track a lot.

It is advertised as having a 50km electric range, even if I take a 20% discount, that still gives me 40km range, well within  what I normally do in a normal day. Theoretically I could use it like my e-Tron and not use a single drop of gasoline.

Porsche really got their hybrids right, one can go really green yet don't have to compromise on performance. There is almost no point in getting a pure EV when their hybrids are this good.

    Re: Pannameera Turbo S e-Hybrid

The Wall Street Journal today has an article that Volkswagen and General Motors are ramping down on hybrids to concentrate on EVs, at least for the U.S. market.   What is a staggering is the amount of investment in EVs over the next five years: $225 billion over 200 new vehicles.  The rate of transition is happening faster than anticipated and major Tier One suppliers like Continental are shifting investment to EV components too.

Not surprised. VAG bet BIG on EV.

Most of the components for hybrids applies to EV, battery, motor, wiring, etc. Easy transition when they already have the knowhow.

Porsche has developed special permanent-magnet electric motors specifically for EV use that might apply to hybrids of the future, but are more critical to EV success than that necessary for hybrid use.

A special feature of the Taycan’s electric motors is the so-called hairpin winding, in which the solenoid coils of the stator consist of rectangular rather than round wires. The wires are bent, and before they are inserted into the stator’s laminated core their shape looks like a hairpin – hence the name “hairpin”. The open ends are welded together using a laser beam. Hairpin technology makes it possible to pack wires in a more condensed way and therefore integrate more copper into the stator. This increases power output and torque at the same level of volume. Another important advantage for a high-performance car like the Taycan is that a hairpin stator can be cooled considerably more efficiently.

Porsche is working with an unnamed Italian firm on that technology.  All I recall is that Marelli was once called Lucas' poorer, Italian cousin.  However, that is past and the new technology should prove promising.

    Re: Pannameera Turbo S e-Hybrid

    OMG OMG OMG.

What car this Turbo S is!!! I can only think of one word, savage!

I have only driven a Panamera Turbo before, and being driven in a few Turbo Ss, never in the driver seat of a Turbo S. I already knew how violent the car is from the back seat, but it's a completely different thing piloting it!

Just picked it up yesterday afternoon and ended up putting 100+ km on it before heading home.

Seriously, I do not want to get out of the car.

I know power, the 918, GT2RS all have more, but those are expected. This is a almost 3 ton sedan, it is doing things that your brain tells you it is not suppose to do. This sedan shouldn't exist, but it is very real. Un-fucking-believable.

Gonna take it to the track soon and hammer it and see what happens smiley

But man, those touch buttons on the centre console, and the overtly complicated PCM system is really the worse ever.Smiley There is no excuse to have such a bad system.

It's a very powerful system with a zillion things to customize, but are those really needed? The BMW iDrive is just as powerful but so much simpler.

    Re: Pannameera Turbo S e-Hybrid

I've driven mine for over 22,000 miles.  One gets used to the control interface with a little use.  The BMW iDrive has more drilling down to do since the control input devices are fewer, so it takes more time for a given task.

I haven't taken the Turbos S E-Hybrid to the track, but my 2014 Turbo turned a 1:43 lap at Mid-Ohio, where my 997 GT3RS 4.0 was 1:39, both with me at the wheel.  The Turbo S E-Hybrid should really scoot at the track.

The problem with the Panamera menu is that it has like 200 options on the first screen then another 400 for the 2nd step eachSmiley Oh, plus another 800 for the 3rd step in. Smiley

iDrive there is always only 8 options maximum on each screen, up down left right then diagonal. I don't even have to look at the screen to take the next step. I have to hunt for the touch button on the screen in the Panamera , man those touch buttons are a slippery bastard, just when you thought u had it and touch, the button has traveled 2 miles away.

First one is from the Porsche Circle. New version of the 918 Spyder Circle. They had expanded the program to includes quite a few more people that's a VIP of Porsche but doesn't have a 918.

Second one is the 'standard' one that comes with the car with the painted/leather key. Saddle Brown leather with black stitching.

    Re: Pannameera Turbo S e-Hybrid

I know I will enjoy the Panamera a lot!. Still can't believe it took me so long to get one.

I know I checked pretty much every box, but still, it just feel so luxurious inside, leather and stitching eveywhere.

Even the hood release plastic latch is covered in leather. And that thick pile carpet feels so nice!

I went back and checked my order, I spent ~$10kCAD on interior options. $1,100 of which were for the black brushed aluminum trims. The extra leather stuff is just around $6,500, in the grand scheme of things, it really isn't that much. Air vent in leather for example is a $2,655CAD option which I didn't ordered.

I did however ordered just about $60kCAD in total options Smiley
