Air/Con 're-gassing' problem

I had my Air/Con re-gassed last month at ATS Euromaster - where I bought my Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres last year.

The service there is first class, but yesterday my Air/Con started to blow warm again! I took the car back to have it checked. I was told that it looks as though I have a leak in the condenser pipework - probably from stone chips under the bonnet? They suggested I take it to my OPC as the front-end needs to be removed to get to it.

Anyone had this problem and know what the likely cost will be? Any advice would be gratefully received... many thanks.

John, I believe it is a fairly straight forward test with an UV lamp to tell whether or not there is a refrigerant leak and where it is coming from. I would have thought stones would have been more likely to have damaged the air con condenser than pipe work. If not an official Porsche Centre do you have a reputable independent workshop you could try? Certainly cheaper than the OPC route. I had to have the air con condenser replaced in the Boxster last year, fortunately a defective brazed joint that was covered by the extended warranty. I was advised the cost would have been around £1,000 had it not been covered.

Thanks Tim @ Gnil - When I wrote the post I filled in the board as 911 - 997 - Carrera? Really no idea how it was changed?

Will be phoning my OPC tomorrow to get some idea of procedure and cost and will report back...

Hi John,

I've had the same issue twice with my GT3. Once on the RH condenser, and now on the LH one !

New condenser fitted was about £700 fitted at the OPC from memory :-(

I rang my OPC at Wilmslow on 30th July and the earliest date they could book me in was 19th August for 2 days!

Heaven knows why they're so busy? It's not as though business is booming right now??

Macans - there are a lot of them out there!

I was talking to an after sale agent the other day and he told me his job is nothing more then if he would be organizing TV repairs . He told me to look at the parking where cars are waiting to go into the work shop and count what I see :

6 Macan, 2 Cayenne , 1 Panamera , 1 911 ....

Got my 997 GTS back from the OPC on Friday.

They had fitted two new A/C Condensers, four A/C O-Rings and a Desiccator - followed by a re-gas.

The total cost was £1192.10 incl. VAT.

Also included in the price was a 34 point Health Check which all received a green rating - meaning no other issues are currently apparent...

Personally I think that this is decent value - for total peace of mind... kiss
