    Re: Corvette C8

The Z06 C8 will have 760hp and cost a additional 30k, so it's 911T money. Hurracan Performante buyers might want to do a rethink.

Previous Corvettes had poor hook up off the line, poor traction in the wet and had overheating issues for generations. This one has all three problems solved. This is no longer just a update of 60s trash.

    Re: Corvette C8

Same performance for half the price, there is a market for everything. Where did I read this somewhere? angry

If it costs an additional $30k, then it will cost less than $90k which is cheaper than a base 911...

    Re: Corvette C8

In Europe, the car will be much more expensive due to the particulate filter and other necessary adjustments.

I wonder how the "low" C8 price will impact the prices of the current C7. Saw a beautiful Carbon 65 Edition...was very tempted. Nah...not my thing.

What could be my thing though: Also saw a beautiful Challenger Hellcat Demon. The sound this thing makes is just divine, the supercharger whine is out of this world. I am seriously thinking about getting one for me...and my son. Before someone thinks I am nuts: Valet mode. My son would drive in valet mode only. This is around 300 hp in a 2 ton car, not really something to worry about.

    Re: Corvette C8

Porsche enjoys many of the same advantages of having a large company (VW), so the cost of production may be similar.  But Porsche has the largest profit margins in the business (as Apple does in theirs).

Why should they lower the price of Porsches, when there is already a waiting list of people prepared to pay over the asking price for many models?

    I will tell you why.

Most Corvettes are actually puchased and not leased, first owners tend to hold onto them longer than other brands.

Porsche  "owners" tend to lease and not purchase.

Covettes are priced to be purchased , while Porsche MSRP is a strategic calculation of a ideal (for them)l monthly lease cost to a customer who is getting what is actually a rental car.

    That's my theory anyway.

    Re: Corvette C8

I just heard today from my local Corvette dealer that the first C8 won't make it (officially!) to Germany before 2020.

Even worse: It is very likely that the n/a V8 won't be available for the German/European market, only the rumored turbo version and later the turbo/hybrid. This would be very sad.

I get the feeling that US manufacturers don't really care about the EU car market: No Camaro and C7 for the EU market anymore, also Ford lowered the power on the Mustang Ecoboost 4-cyl. by 20 hp and for the V8 auto by 10 hp. In reality, I assume that the particulate filter will eat up some performance chunk and also change the sound to the worse.

I am seriously considering getting a Challenger SRT or R/T or even SRT Hellcat or Demon, just because it is one of the last "monsters".

A Challenger R/T with scat pack is around 38k EUR, brand-new, the SRT is around 40k. The wide-body version is around 60k. Compared to what you can get for this kind of money in Germany, a real bargain.

Many different colors but with such a car, you usually want a flashy color. This is not your regular daily driver.

I saw a beautiful white Challenger Widebody R/T with 492 hp for around 51k EUR...

Challengers are a bargain in Germany. However, those are sporty cars (even fast). I think the Corvette is a Sportscar. So I really like the new Corvette (beside the new rims, they look cheap). Other than that, bold and very smart move to go towards Mid-Engine. It still will stay with all the old image issues. However, the new car is sexy enough to be very successful.

Agree.  The development team considered a number of factors to entice new purchasers to Corvette, including equipping the base variant with all-season very high performance Michelin tires said to theoretically attain 1.0g lateral acceleration.  Of course, the more desirable Z51 package, except for the awkwardly looking rear wing, will run with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.  The price point is low enough that leaving this car in a parking lot unattended doesn't form any angst.

Contrasting Porsche with this new Corvette, while the competing Porsche models, are higher priced, the Porsches do offer a more bespoke approach with options and equipment.  A Porsche representative recently quipped that the company doesn't produce more than two identical 911s a year.  That said, the Corvette will offer customer VINs for the lowly sum of $5,000.  Previously, General Motors allowed new owners, for an additional fee, build their motors in an adjacent production facility.

While Porsche charge more per car as compared to Corvettes, Porsches cars are more bespoke, every year, there may be 2 911s that are exactly the same in configurations. but GM used to let customers build their own Corvette's engine and now they let customers choose their VIN number for $5000.

Nick, I read that without trouble. Smiley

I originally considered that, but found it too unlikely that they would charge nearly 10% of the cost of the car for the right to choose a VIN#.  Makes PTS seem reasonable Smiley

Challenger is not in the same league with the C8 (or even C7 for that matter) but it is a reliable fun car for those who are into US "muscle" or pony cars. The last ones...I doubt that the Challenger will survive in it's current form.

You really need to hear a Challenger SRT Demon, the sound is just... SmileySmileySmiley Not extremely loud, not in the same league with a Performante or whatever but it has that nice V8 growl with a divine supercharger whine. My son was so fascinated that he asked the dealer to do another round on the parking lot, so he can listen to the sound. Smiley

I am seriously considering putting my 18 year old son in a Demon but of course in valet mode only (aprox. 300 hp). Unfortunately this car is no bargain, dealer asks 92k, I think I can get it for 85k or so but still too much for a fifth/sixth car. Smiley I am eyeing a Challenger R/T now...for 40k. This would be our daily beater and my son's car, only problem is that it has 150 hp in valet mode only and I won't give my son a 492 hp car as his first car, no way.

Unless the C8 quality is shoddy, I don't understand how anyone can justify buying a European sport car over the C8. It is clearly the performance value king which Porsche for many years. Not today. Here is a peak of the C8 convertible.
