Create a corporation in another country and rent the car from it? Buy a place somewhere else?

No the government is after these cars. When you drive a car with plates from e.g. Germany or Slovakia you have sooner than later the finance police visiting you and looking for bills (Gas,..) from the country where the car / company is registered. Way too much hassle and then you have the full attention from them ....

I admire Austria for their pension system approach, very clever system in my opinion, leaving retirees with enough money to survive their retirement. NOVA? Idiotic. Simply idiotic.

Not sure if Austrian dealers have good lease offers but I assume NOVA is applied on top of the final price anyway, cash buy or lease? Smiley

An Austrian guy I know, I met him at a car meet, has a condo in Germany near the Austrian border, aprox. 30 km away from his home village in Austria. He registered a small company at this condo, some sort of "external" business bureau for his Austrian company. The car (a Ferrari 488 Spider) is parked there at his condo but it is a private registration, not on the company. I don't know how this works and if it is OK for the Austrian tax office but he seemed pretty confident that there are no issues for him.

    Re: 720s Spider Choice

    hunterone:

Short summary about my test drive:

Exterior: the coupe looks better with the glass roof to the back and design wise more consistent as the spider. The spider seems also to be more color sensitive. The test car color was belize blue and it was quite dark and greenish and doesn’t look good under cloudy weather. Overall i was a little bit unimpressed.

Yes, the coupé looks always better - but this spider has hit it near to a coupé

Interior: The glass roof is as expected sensational. It is now light and airy inside and also the visibility is very good. Overall the build quality is top notch. I don’t like the electronic display as it looks for me a little bit dated but that’s a problem with all electronic displays when they age.

The display is not at S-class level - but a huge improvement to 650s or 12c

Driving Slow Speeds: From the solidity, braking, steering, gearshifts, suspension... it feels as perfect as a Porsche. That’s two steps up from my 12c and an absolute joy to drive.

I would even go further, driving with the car in town or on the highway has more comfort than any other sports car I have ever driven. It is smoother to drive than a Porsche turbo. Ingres/Engres is much easier. You need less parking space to open the doors. It is unbeleivable how less parking space you need.

Driving: I really think that the car is overpowered and for that power under wheeled. The traction control is awesome but when you give it some beans the rear wanders around all the time. You need to be careful at overtaking, at corner exits, with throttle application all the time.... The car was fitted with P Zero tires and i think with Cup 2 it will work better but any tire like P Zero, MPS4S, even P Zero Corsa will have these problems. My 12C with CUP2 is so in balance as a car that for sure i will be most of the time faster in my 12C under real driving conditions because I don’t need to take care of the cars back and what it is doing. I understand RC now that in a group a 720s can have some problems and you need to be very good behind the wheel. I also don’t like the sport mode on drive train setting because the simulated short break in gearshifts makes the car a little bit unstable.

Your observation I could not follow. First I do have to say, that I have P Zero corsa, so maybe that has influence. Each car with 700 hp when driving binary will get you in trouble. You have to accelerate smoothly from the apex to the corner exit at the same time opening the steering. For sure you know it. Maybe you have to adapt, that you have more than 100 hp.

For me the P Zero corsa is a very nice tire. I didn't have such experience you mentioned. There is even a video on youtube from carwow drag racing against Aventador S in wet conditions (https://youtu.be/fJGxc0x7hzA).

Nonetheless the car goes like hell and the best thing you can have on an autobahn.

Not only autobahn, the car drives much easier than a GT2RS on track (https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/test/mclaren-720s-porsche-911-gt2-rs/)

    ....

    ....

One of the problems right now for me is that we have in Austria 32% Eco tax in addition the 20% sales tax and the overall price for the 720s spider is 412k €. For my 12C i would get 110k ... Not that i cannot afford it but that’s a whopping 300k difference and for me it’s not worth it.

300k is much money - but in Austria, you have the problem with each car in this price segment.

I’ve so much fun in my 12C. Did yesterday a 600km trip https://kurv.gr/2m6bX in a spirited style and it was very satisfying.

    Re: 720s Spider Choice

The Corsa is a nice compromise, it needs temperature though (so around 50°C-60°C is quite OK for this tire, 40°C are acceptable, over 70°C it gets a little bit "smeary").

Biggest problem with the Corsa: When it is slightly wet on the road (road not yet completely covered with water or covered but not really full with water), the Corsa is quite capable but beware of more water on the road, the Corsa becomes very dangerous, almost similar to a semi-slick. With heavy rain, I was driving at speeds around 110 kph on the Autobahn to feel comfortably safe (I could have added maybe 20 kph more if I wanted but it just didn't feel right). With my former R8 and the PZero PZ4, even 160 kph were possible without getting sweaty hands. E63 S and PZero? 160-180, no issues but I usually keep it under 160 anyway when it rains, for safety reasons. Depends on the road surface and steering/butt feel.

I am so happy I didn't go with the Trofeo R (had the thought because it is a weekend toy only but Trofeo R needs temperature), for German roads just not a good idea (a bit of rain or colder temperatures and the Trofeo R sucks big time). The Cup 2 on my R8 was similar to the Corsa on the Performante, so I'm good.

Speaking of traction issues: Yes, the 720S needs a lot of pre-thinking if you want to be fast on public roads/pass roads or even on the track. I told you we had a guy with us in a group and he had difficulties keeping up because either the traction control was too intrusive or it gave him too much leeway and the rear broke out all the time, which isn't really the best thing on a public road. Smiley You get used to it (according to the owner) but it requires really good, calm and precise driving skills. This is no car for jerks at the steering/throttle because if you don't drive a clean and calm line, you're in trouble. Reminds me a little bit of my former GT500 but of course the McLaren has a much better TC and chassis grip/setup.

Hmmh, my old P Zero corsa on 650 S where shit of tyre - exactly what you describe. I change them to new 720s Pzero (non-corsa) and got a real good improvement.

The new Pirelli on 720s - which are a totally new design and wider - is a huuuuuge improvement - you can safely drive in wet conditions. If you enter the highway and pushing like there is no tomorrow - everything could happen - but if you drive with your brain turned on - you shouldn´t get any problems.

I think on each car with more than 500 hp - you have to be careful when accelerating in corners or even on a straight. My GT3RS was a lot of more nervous - more than the 720s by far.

I wouldn't agree that you have to be more careful and have to pre-think in a 720s compared to any other car with similar horse power - it is sportscar with so much power - it is like a weapon - you have to know what are you doing with that.

    720S actually aged well too!

Remember when it first came out we all said what was Mclaren thinking? It was better than the joker face before but still it takes us a while to warmed up to it.

    Performance wise, holy shit!!

Smiley Agreed. The 720S has set a new performance/price ratio bar for all sportscar manufacturers and Ferrari was probably the first competitor who reacted accordingly. I just hope that Porsche and Lamborghini catch up soon, I don't have much hopes for Aston Martin or AMG though, not that AMG was ever a real competitor in this segment. Smiley

    Re: 720s Spider Choice

Hehe there will be (too)many pics for sure. I drove the demo car only for a few hours so I’m very curious about the handling in comparison to my 12C. The 12C I know blind and can get 10/10 whenever it is possible to do so. It will get some time to get used to it and I hope that it is on the same fun level as the 12C.

As for comparison I drove a Huracan Evo demo car also for a few hours 2 weeks ago and I was very underwhelmed.  The front axle on turn in has nearly no feel and precision with understeer and then suddenly after the first turn in the 4WS Steering jumped in and the car turned into a little oversteer. For me that was not confidence inspiring and not honed at all. The only thing I liked was the sound. The power … phhh my 12C goes better. Turns in better. Handles better….

The Evo is a n/a car and a n/a car will always feel slower, no matter if performance is similar or not.

Were you driving in Corsa mode? Many people drive the Evo in Sport mode because they think Corsa is too extreme for public roads but Sport mode is actually very RWD oriented and changes a little bit the behavior of the AWD Evo. Smiley I also think you got used to RWD, AWD cars often handle differently, this is actually why I love them. Smiley

Different cars for different people I know - thats why its nearly inpossible to say wich car is overall better. It depends on our taste - same with wine and food/restaurants.
