    Interview with Wiedeking

From "the man" himself, not terribly revealing but you know how this is, he can't just speak his mind to the media, but you can read between lines:

    Quote:
Wiedeking was interviewed at the Paris auto show by Automotive News Staff Reporter Diana T. Kurylko, Associate Publisher Peter Brown, and Automotive News Europe Staff Reporter Jens Meiners.

AN - Why two new cars at the same time?

WW - The next cars - the seventh generation of the 911 and the third generation of the Boxster - will be more spread out. We believe in top down for our models.

AN - How do you expect the new Boxster to do?

WW - Everyone is telling me the Boxster market has changed. When Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche decided to go into the roadster segment, there was no roadster segment - Mazda was there.

It is a product-driven segment. We want to deal with the existing Boxster customers and have them purchase the next-generation Boxster.

Porsche customer loyalty is higher than all other brands, and this is very important to us.

AN - What percentage of components are shared by the Boxster and 911?

WW - It is in the same region as the last models, about 36 or 37 percent.

AN - Will you expand the Boxster range? We've heard about a coupe.

WW - We will do further products based on the existing product line and body. There will be no new products priced below the Boxster.

AN - Dealers want the fourth car sooner than later. When will you decide on a product?

WW - Next year. When we make the decision, we will have fewer friends in the industry and competitors.

AN - Does the new car have to be manufactured on a rear-wheel-drive platform?

WW - We want to share, especially in the future, more systems and components within the product range. That means engines and electronics systems. That is a must.

AN - Do you have the room in Germany to build another vehicle?

WW - The production decision is the last one you make. You have to know what concept segment, what kind of customers and what price. There is huge space in Leipzig and if we want to, we want do it there.

    AN - No partners?

WW - Even this is not decided yet. We can do it ourselves. But there is always a question of strategy and whether it makes sense to do it with a third party or not.

    Re: Interview with Wiedeking

As long as the decision isn't a sedan mr W. Wiedeking, I'm cool with it.

unfortunately thats what its going to be

    Re: Interview with Wiedeking

WW, as mentioned, is not a very public, press loving figure, however, the few interviews he gives, if you read between the lines, you really can see some of his inner plans

in the past, when asked about the sedan/2+2 front engine GT type car, he has given some rather vague feedback, that when interpreted through the usual WW filters, can be interpreted as acknowledgement

    Re: Interview with Wiedeking

Hmnn over 35% of the Boxster parts shared with the 911.
RC you had challenged me to describe the parts the Boxster shares with the 911. They are too numerous to mention.

WW also made it clear in the future a higher percent of sharing component parts i.e. electronic's, motor, et cetera is "a must".

If that does not sound like GM, Ford and MB I do not know what does. BYE BYE uniqueness. Boys and girls keep those wallet's open for ease of picking.

    Re: Interview with Wiedeking

nberry, you cannot relate porsche's inter-parts sharing to GM and ford/etc because the companies are very different catering to very different sectors

and if you were referring to Ford/aston, audi/lambo, well thats the same as fiat/ferrari porsche is not owned by a larger company that makes inferior cars that they may or may not share parts with... unlike the said combinations...

    Re: Interview with Wiedeking

By now, you are as easy to read and see through as a child's mind nick.

You wouldn't be one of the test subjects this article refers to would you nick?

The description in the article fits, despite the fact that Nick only drinks Pepsi and McD's milk shakes.
He should however be sticking to the vanilla shakes, because the color additives in the other flavors have been causing the over-excitability which he has been attributing to his Modena!

    Re: Interview with Wiedeking

    hilarious stuff

    Re: Interview with Wiedeking

And when the hell is this "sports" car (and SUV) company getting back to RACING?

    Re: Interview with Wiedeking

It really worked out well for jaguar!

    Tom

    Re: Interview with Wiedeking

jaguar is rubbish anyway, i knew it was over when they lost that diamond in monaco. (hahahaha)

    Re: Interview with Wiedeking

I had forgotten about that. Any reports spotting the the wife of some monte carlo sewer worker flashing a big rock?

Oh my! Brunner acknowledges that I paid Porsche prices for my VW Cayenne; WW acknowledges that the 911 is 1/3 Boxster and it will become 1/2 Boxster in the future and the 997 front end looks like a VW Beattle. Nothing like being handed a gift on a silver platter.

So how much over Porsche's MSRP did you pay for your VW Cayenne, Nick?

What parts are shared between fiat and ferrari although FIAT group owns fiat auto and ferrari?

I never mistake any 911 to any Beattle. Also, believe it or not, someone mistake a Maranello to Corvette (not me). And the horse of Ferrari to Mustang's (again not me).
