My friends and I had tickets to go to a stadium and watch it there as an event, organized by the broadcasting company that also broadcasts the F! and analyses in the Netherlands. We're heavily contemplating just to do a BBQ instead and skip watching the race completely...

Intently watching meat cook on a grill is infinitely more exciting than watching a current season F1 race as everyone knows it will be another Mercedes 1-2 finish with Red Bull, Ferrari, and now, McLaren fighting, at least until the third turn of the race, for the final podium position.

Though I do not like him much Mad Max seems to be the only one who could bring some excitement to the game...perhaps, Redbull gets it right and puts everything they have into a good performance on their home turf...
What I certainly cannot understand is this dominance of Mercedes - they do not perform miracules but it seems that their overall perfomance package used has still a lot of margin, at will, whatever the "other" are doing. Well, at least between the crews there is not much of a difference when changing tires...yawn...
The problem with F1 is the regulation.
They locked in stuff. Especially propulsion. Mercedes aced the test for making a great power plant while others failed that test. Since the regulation is locked, nothing can be changed until the next set of rules.
It happens all the time. Way back the Red Bull got their package right and dominated for 4-5 years where Vettel won his championships. Before that it was Renault and Alonso got 2 in a row. Before that was Ferrari and Schumacher. And before that was the Williams, and McLaren's.
There is also no innovations either since everyone is locked in.
The only way to make it exciting is the copy the WEC rules.
Here is a box, everyone can do whatever they want with the box.
V12? sure. Inline 4? Of course. High downforce car? High speed car? Go ahead. Just need BoP and they can go racing.
Seems to me that a lot changed when 're-fueling' was discontinued - together with Bernie's ridiculous contract with Pirelli tyres! Teams should be able to choose their tyre supplier just as they choose their engine supplier!
Without having to manage fuel consumption and tyre wear, we may once again see some flat-out racing...

F1 is pretty boring...It needs some good old BOP disagreements in the pits

Whoopsy:The defined 'box' is too small and restrictive.
F1 is going down the path of NASCAR.
Great analogy as NASCAR, pre-2009, was one of the hottest franchises in racing. Since that time, NASCAR has suffered as they keep playing with the format; the latest being races within races to attempt to draw a Millennial audience. Meanwhile, WEC and IndyCar have pulled ahead. At the rate F1 is going, it will be nothing more than a computer simulation amongst the teams' engineering groups.

Ferrari must be happy: you push, you get penalty, you get pushed, nothing :-) I'm sure we'll hear about this!
Again a messed up strategy....and what a F up with Vettel's stop...

CGX car nut:Topspeed:That was racing. Leclerc lost the lead and was outside...it's always risky.
Very different from Vet/Ham situation.
Your bias is showing.

That was a great F1 race - what a difference from France only one week ago.
We want more like this to re-kindle confidence in F1 as a top motorsport spectacle...

JEANTET:Absolutely indeed ,
Suddenly both mercedes have overheating problems !
Now just give Verstappen this mercedes next year to really evaluate hamilton place in history.
Ok, I might be biased towards Hamilton, but I don't think a comparison at this stage makes much sense. Verstappen is at the beginning of his career while Hamilton is almost at the end? A youngster who takes more risks VS a more mature and experienced driver who knows how to play the long game. A better and fairer comparison would be Verstappen and Leclerc if they were driving the same car.
Btw, Look what Hamilton has achieved so far...we're witnessing one of the greatest drivers in history.
