Even at $80-85,000 out the door it is more attractively priced than a Cayman or Boxster because the Corvette remains a targa styled car.  Carryon room is amazing too.  This video shows many of the details.  https://youtu.be/zKlNE6g4Bno

Old ones were fairly bulletproof because they were relatively simple cars.  New GM cars especially with new powertrains tend to have problems in the first year.

Agree however the white car in the video has a simple rear lip versus that hideous wing; it looks stunning.

    Re: Corvette C8

The real competition of the Corvette is actually the in-house Camaro, hence the cheap pricing.

GM's Camaro team is quite tight with our track, and ever since they released the current Camaro ZL1, they have stolen quite a chunk of Corvette buyers who want something that don't break down on a track. The ZL1 1LE packaged cars are a monster on track and they can go on forever even in our desert heat, while every single Corvette that came on track last perhaps 2 or not even 1 20 min session before overheating and going into limp mode. 35 degree ancient will do that do them.

Before the politics dictates that the Camaro team bow to the Corvette team, but lately it seems the gloves are off, GM let the Camaro team barge in on Corvette performance territory.

This new Corvette solved the biggest problem with the old front engine one, cooling. The old one simply don't have enough openings for cooling with the low hood line.

    Re: Corvette C8

Regarding the new C8, I'm not expecting killer circuit lap times if the Pilot SuperSport 4S is the most aggressive tire available (Even with the Z51 package).  Seems the priority was all around street performance.

NA V8 against turbo 4 cylinders.

    A no brainer for me.

    This C8 is very nice.

If the car performs well, it will certainly hurt manufacturers like Porsche with the Cayman/Boxster, maybe even with the 911. It will be interesting to see how much power the top version will have and how much it costs. If GM offers a C8 with over 700 hp for 100k, this could have a serious impact on the market. Will be interesting...

Does someone know the weight of the C8? I didn't have the time to google it.

The performance will be there - it always is (it’s the subjective aspects that lag behind).  Z06 will have DOHC V8 with twin turbos with over 700hp and ZR1 is rumored to have 1,000hp AWD Hybrid like new Ferrari...

Dry weight is over 1500kg and not sure how much fluids add.  Sounds like it’s heavier than C7

    What about M/T for the Z06 / ZR1 ?

Is it safe to say, DOHC + Turbo + Double wishbone suspension =  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Especially with the new? Tremec DCT transmission, used only here and Mustang GT500.  A good direction to go IMO, but I would guess Tremec has some catchup to do wrt shift speed snd smoothness.  Though one could argue that slightly brutal shIfts are in character for the Corvette.

    Re: Corvette C8

There is a GM patent to alter the Tremec DCT into a manual.

If you watch Schmee and his teeth at the Stingray launch you can see some interesting details and some colors that favor the cars lines.

With choices of 490, 495 and  later 560 , 750 and 1000 coming this may cut into the Hurracan and F car market for non brand whores.

The Tremec DCT for the C8 Corvette is a transaxle design so it isn't the same layout as that found in the Mustang GT500 as the input and output shafts remain in the same plane.  There's enough changes, given the new engine designation, that that could be worrisome too.  Unfortunately, General Motors has a proven track record of issues in the first year of production.

One tidbit of information that surfaced is Bob Lutz approved the initial concept work for this car before General Motors' 363 restructuring in 2009; however, the project was shunted until five years ago.

    Re: Corvette C8

I did not expect the rear trunk; impressive packaging, maybe helped by the standard dry sump engine mounted so low.  Sounds silly perhaps, but at these lower price points these things can sway buyers on the fence and looking for the  "but its practical dear" justifications.

    Re: Corvette C8

I would buy the C8 before any none GT Porshe. The Porsche turbo will challenge the C8 from a performance standpoint but at what cost? Also, the sound of the turbo is so muted the emotional aspect is severely compromised.

As far as reliability is concerned, the price of theC8 is so attractive that issue becomes less important.

I just saw the dimensions: quite a bit larger than the C7, which explains partly how they squeezed 2 trunks in.  The C8 is just a hair longer than a Ferrari F12 - 4.63 metre length, and the same width as the F12 at 1.93m.

The convertible; this car is very attractive even with the ugly color. The styling has overcome the bubba perception and elevated it to European supercar attraction.

    Re: Corvette C8

This car at 60k base is a atomic bomb set off in the sports car market.

Could have as big of impact as the Datsun 240Z did that ruined the sales of MG and Triumph in the US. Cayman, Boxster, Supra Z4, Audi tt...why bother with those now, useless! It's even quicker then a new Ford GT.

Already you have Lambo, McLaren, Ferrari and Porsche owners looking at buying one. Not that it will kill those brands but it will break a piece of their rice bowl off.

Nissan, ,Porsche, VW and Toyota all have V8 engines and could build a C8 of their own, but culturally the are stuck with thinking that a Super Car must be priced for the wealthy only.

    Re: Corvette C8

I really hope it handle well and can hold a trackday without overheating or breaking down, for 60k it is the beat bang for buck I've seen in ages, and hope they carry over that pricing into RoW and specially Europe. Would be great for everybody. Vette has a horrible driver image here in Europe, but this one is so different that it may start fresh.

Projected price in Australia $100-150k - half the price of a Carrera S. I think they will sell a lot. Buyers will overlook a lot of brand cachet deficiency for that price/performance ratio.

    Re: Corvette C8

Not a big fan of the look... Will have to see in the flesh.

    Re: Corvette C8

In recent years the average age of a Corvette buyer was 67. The C8 with its modern supercar looks will attract younger buyers. I cannot see myself buying a none GT Porsche over the Corvette. In my mind, its financial irresponsibility.

Consider depreciation. Drive a C8 for three years and lose $30,000. Drive a 992 911 for three years and lose $80,000.mail

I agree, and it would have to be a horrible build quality (which is unlikely) for it not to sell well... how is Corvette's image down under?

Imagine when they bring out the ZR versions...
