    F430 Delayed for U.S.!?

    From AutoWeek:
Due to major demand for its new F430, Ferrari says buyers in the United States won't take delivery of the 360 Modena replacement until as late as early next summer. The original U.S. delivery plan was for late November or early December 2004. Most European buyers still get the first cars in November, with right-hand-drive markets getting theirs in early 2005.
    --------------------------
I thought it was in April next year originally?

    Re: F430 Delayed for U.S.!?

Wow there is some demand for this car. I heard winter 2005 at first, now they are saying summer of 2005. I guess the first US cars will be model year 2006 cars then maybe?

    Re: F430 Delayed for U.S.!?

maybe by that time they'll respond to customer suggestions for side/window airbags!

No they won't, unless they had started on it long before public introduction of the car's specs. Development and tooling-up time would be too long to respond to demand with a "turn-around" of just one year.

    Re: F430 Delayed for U.S.!?

What a bunch of B.S. Autoweek is always full of it. There were never plans to deliver US cars before spring 2005. Even before the car was shown, I've heard spring to summer 2005.

Stop dreaming. Your concern about safety equipment on these cars only means that they are not for you.

2/3's of our listmembers share my concern. like many car nuts i probably will accept delivery of an f430 even without side airbags. that does not mean, though, that ferrari is not being short sighted and stupid in this regard.

Wow, what an insight! and you know what is best for ignacio just from a single line post of his... impressive! (I'm gonna like this Graemlin too Fritz )

Seriously, the more demand the car gets (and it will get plenty, since it has many points for it to be a success, even without side airbags), the less likely they wil offer side airbags as an option since the will be less motivated to do so.

If they were worried about their customers safety or fate in an accident in the first place they would have done it during development already, and wouldn't purposedly try to fool the more naive section of the public by blowing the need for side airbags in their propaganda under the excuse of a "stiffer" chasis. An element, side airbags, that nowadays have no disadvantages and all advantages, and are therefore becoming mainstream for all cars without a roll cage and helmet, specially for sportcars since their weakest point is side impact protection due to their low height/ side windows and proliferation of heavy high bumpered cars & trucks on the streets. Its just like the seat belts in its day, I still remember people back then saying seatbelts were "unconfortable" or even actually dangerous

Single line? Take a look at his posts, both here and FerrariChat. That's all he talks about is side airbags and safety. It gets old after a while, if you know what I mean.

Shortsighted and stupid? What a great comment. Yea, sure. they sell every car they make and they are stupid.

ferrari's commercial success makes it possible for them to address the safety of their customers with minimal impact on their profitability. it is stupid for them not to do so, especially when the down side is ruinous litigation in the biggest market--the u.s.a. i believe it is possible to love ferrari design and to fear side impact brain damage at the same time.

btw, i have addressed many other topics here besides this one, if you bother looking.

Your points are well taken. However, the solution to the above problem you describe, should not be left on the car manufacturers' laps. I for one, do not like all the crap they keep adding to my cars, whether it's a Ferrari, Porsche or a Hyundai. In fact, I don't even like the ridiculous HP figures they are resorting to. The cars are getting big, fat and less fun to drive. What we need is major legal system reform and even more major driver education.

we certainly need better drivers ed but this will be blocked by parents that are in a hurry to rid themselves of carpool duties. compared to germany, our drivers are ignorant nincompoops! yet another reason to request airbags!

legal reform is even harder. ever hear of the lawyer's full employment act?
