For me the Taycan could be a better fit than a 992: more room for a small child in the back + perfect company car taxwise....

Exactly. Also less flashy than showing up in a 911 sports car.

Definitely less flashy if you get the Taycan in one of the 83 shades of grey, black, and silver offered by Porsche.

I will admit that I am a bit surprised by the smaller interior. I often carry four people in my Panamera Turbo, and like that capability.. If the Taycan has limited rear space, it will affect my purchase decision.

It is more Porsche's version of the Aston-Martin Rapide.

Rather Porsche's version of the BMW 5 series... Smiley (

Have you been in a 5-series lately?  The backseat is positively commodious, rivaling that of a 7-series just a few years ago.

But why bother with rear doors if the seats are small?

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Because it’s a pain to get in without those rear doors?

Looks like the rear seats aren’t...

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

I now have final spec and pricing for the Taycan.

Actually most dealers should also have them by now.

Can't be too specific as it is embargoed until Frankfurt.

Pricing of the car will surprise a lot of people. So is the advertised range.

    Advertised is the keyword.

4 trim levels, all the way to a Turbo S model. Well 5, but Canada only gets 4.

You can just say, how much of this info is true Smiley ------>>>>

-The 4S and Turbo models (which are the only ones available at start) will have a 96kwh battery.

-880NM in the Turbo, with a 10s boost to 1000nm

-The base model will come out 6 months later with a 80kwh battery.

-Different regen modes when you come off the accelerator, the maximum has an insane 250KW of regen.

-All models come with specially coated dust free PSCB brakes.

-617hp in the Turbo, 429 or 483hp in the S and 322 or 375hp in the base model

-The S and the Turbo comes as standard with AWD and the 96kwh big battery

    -48V anti roll bars

    -Batteries come from LG

    -Weight slightly below 2100kg

-Price for base model in the low 90K usd range, for the S in the high 90K usd range and for the Turbo 140K usd.

-Hardcore turbo S model with over 750hp and a GTS lightweight version comes later

Consumption is supposed to be between 14.5-28.3kwh/100km.

That should give the 96kwh battery versions a range of 340-660km on a full charge.

Depends on your point of view.

It's typical Porsche pricing, the next level up is always 'just' there after adding options.

And per Porsche's pricing model, the better car is always more expensive. This applies also to the 'comparable' car with the same trim level within the Porsche range, i.e. Panamera.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Ok I will take a guess:

base price will be somewhat low but that car is completely crippled (performance, range and features). Once optioned prices will go up very quickly into typical Porsche price gouging. Then price will go up very quickly when you get to the specs people really want (ie AWD and big battery with options that are standard everywhere else, a 4S like that will be easily over $110k). Top model easily over $150k.

Performance: acceleration will be below the fastest EV out there but handling will be superb.

Range: same story as ETron, advertised range will be over 300 miles using some EU “official” data, but EPA range will be much lower and real usable range will be far below what is out there, in a sporty use the range of the car will be impractical for most families, one would argue that EV tech is not yet ready for that type of sporty application yet.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

"Some EU official data"...mmm, have you heard about the WLTP?

"Some EU official data"...mmm, have you heard about the WLTP?

WLTP!   WLTP has decimated Audi, and Bentley, sales in the States.  Audi, for example, had set multiple monthly and annual sales records until Volkswagen Group had issues getting product certified through WLTP.  Dealers in the States are anxiously waiting for the new Audi Q3, one of their bread-and-butter vehicles, only to learn that volume ramp won't happen before late Q3.  Many unhappy dealers here.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Better, but still way too conservative baby Panamera like.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

It needs to be below the panamera - since the panamera is so f expensive.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Well the managed to match the ugly rear of the Panamera with an ugly front, at least it is now coherent angry

More seriously, we shall see how it looks in the flesh... rear space doesn’t look that small.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Bottom line is, it is a Porsche, so it will drive great and handles great and with great fit and finish.

But at the end of the day, it's still an EV car. And EV is still not ready for prime time, maybe another 10-20 years.

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

No clear, I would not buy one either.

I would expect a lot of used ones for sale within a year IF our guess about the real range is correct.

Meanwhile I drove the RRS and the Cali for the first time in months, the RRS felt tiny inside and bloated handling while the Cali was fun but stressful although one main reason was that I realized the car had no more gas and did not want to stop in the middle of nowhere to refill early in the morning, talk about range anxiety smiley The RRS will now only be used for backup in case of some sort of emergency, now that I have glimpsed in the future, it is hard to jump back.

EV is ready for prime time but the audience is still somewhat limited, the main reason in the USA is the range especially in cold weather  (although some Tesla models have enough) and in the EU because of overnight charging infrastructure.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

EV will be ready for prime time when charging stations are as numerous as gas stations, or at least half as numerous.

But it's a chicken and egg situation. People won't build more charging stations until there are more EVs. And people won't buy more EVs until there are more charging stations.

Buying a EV is like having a prostate exam. People don't look forward to that at this moment in time. Maybe in a couple decades.

Best analogy ever  (pun intended indecision)

I could charge an EV I'm my building's garage with no problem since my parking spots have electricity outlets and are closed by private doors, and no problem in the summet house obviously. Range wound be enough for my driving too, usually don't do more than 200 miles in one day. Yet I have no desire to get an EV, maybe in 20 years when I'm older along with that prostate exam, and even then the may be a better option by then like H fuel cells or something...
