    Corvette design language is of course predicated on front engine, so no surprises if it looks different.  Just, I don’t know who this car will be for - front engine traditionalists in the US will shun it even at the same price, which it will not be (expect 20-40% premium) and against Euro competition with decades of a head start in mid-engine dynamics it will clearly struggle to be seen as in the running.

    The car look quite good in person when I was at the Ring and Manthey earlier this month.

    Still got full camo on but because it was the real thing and not a picture, the camo pattern doesn't really obscure anything.
     

    Sounds pretty good too.

    I think the angle this car has been photographed in is weird, this is why the car looks weird.

    Another issue will be part of the construction will feature very obvious cost cutting that will detract the overall product.   GM always has the potential of making a really good product, but somehow never puts that last 10% of the required effort.

    I hope you're wrong because GM has a real chance here to put a winner on the market...if the design and price and performance are right.

    I think it'll be a tricky change for them, 4trac really hit the nail in the head with his earlier comment:

    It's very interesting.  Living in KY there is a massive, massive population of Corvette owners here.  They are almost all universally excited about a mid-engine Corvette, but they seem to be most excited about it being able to finally 'beat' some of the higher end sports cars from Europe not so much buying them.  Corvette's always punch above their price point, but never quite come out on top.  They think now with true mid-engine dynamics it will finally best some of it's higher priced competition.  I have a friend who works on the drive train, and they seem very excited about that prospect.

    GM most certainly has to be very careful about pricing.  It will certainly be a premium, but too much of one and as 4trac stated they will struggle to sell them.  Especially to their more traditional owner demographic.

    Like I said...if GM gets it right...but a 20-40% premium could break the new Corvette's neck.

    Latest rumors on the C8 put the base price at $60-70,000 with a midship mounted 500 bhp V8.  However, there still seem GM has some developmental issues to address from its first fully electronic architecture with over 100 controllers to a less than stiff aluminium spaceframe that is leading to cracked glass.

    $60k seems awfully low when the current one starts at $US56k... only a 10% premium, which would come nowhere near paying back development costs.  And your info on teething problems just confirms that GM has some catchup to do on mid engine chassis design.  Still, it must not be that far away, and will be an interesting experiment in how much a brand like Corvette can move its customers to a new place.

    The new mid engined Corvette C8 debuts this July 18th. As dealershiips were compelled to load up with old model C7s, you can probably get a screaming deal on a new Corvette convertible..
