USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

I am about to buy a Cayenne, and would like some advice!
I have for some time been looking atbuying a new Cayenne S.
But since I want PCM, and Air springs, I am now seriously considering buying a used TURBO instead.
If anyone has any experience with the turbo, good or bad, as well as advice on how well the Cayenne ages, I would much appreciate it!

I have not tried the turbo yet, only the V6, and S, but a friend told me that
the turbo is quite exeptional, a whole different thing altogether.

The car is in good shape, but has 70.000 km on it, from one previous owner,
and is from 04 / 2003 so now I am wondering weather the car will start developing problems, or run into costly repairs once the engine hits 100.000+ kms, also weather there are DMS /lurking issues with the older cars.
My heart is all ready leaping on the possibility of getting a turbo instead of the S!!
PS: attached is a photo of the Turbo I am considering

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

I say go with the used turbo if its in perfect condition.

Man, 70K is alot!! I think you should look for used turbos with less KMs.

    Good Luck

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

My cayenne turbo is 03/03 as well, and til today haven't had any problem. The car is fantastic, probably the only thing you have to consider is the fuel comsumption, that in the turbo is considerably high...

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

200.000kms and more shouldn't be a major problem with modern engines. So if the price meets your criterion go for it and enjoy the extra turbo-punch.

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

With 70000 km, I wouldn't buy a Cayenne Turbo privately from an owner, only from an official Porsche dealer.
Why don't you talk to him to offer his car through his Porsche dealership? This might cost 2000-3000 Euro more but you get a Porsche used car warranty which is worth gold if something happens. 70000 km are a lot, especially on a car which is almost new on the market. I wouldn't risk it without a one year warranty.

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

    RC,

As usual you ar right on the target. That were my toughts too. I al so know (from driving Saabs) that turbo engines tend to be "expensive" after 100k, but then we have our frend Pierre with 140k on his TT

The 996 Turbo engine is almost bullet-proof but how much experience do people have with the new Cayenne Turbo engine? Judging by the fact that the 500 HP powerkit doesn't require any engine hardware changes, I'd say that the engine is pretty reliable and durable but there are no longtime experiences yet.

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

Thanks to all for the considered responses.

RC, as you say the car has quite some kilometers on it , this is my main worry as well.
The car is actually from one of the major Porsche dealers here, and I am offered to purchase an extra yearly extension of the guarantee for approx 1000 euros..
But I would definitely prefer a car with only 15-25.000 km on it, since many cars simply start developing problems around 100k kilometers..
So i may decide to continue looking, now that I have basically convinced myself into going for a turbo...I cant settle for anything less!
    Will keep you posted!

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

I noticed that the tyres on that wheels are lower than the one that can be fitted for the 18inch Turbo Wheels. Or may be the Turbo Wheels are some aftermarket 19inch?

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

that mileage is insane, the CTT has only been out for like 2-3 years.

    stay away from it.

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

Well, if it's a daily driver, mileage would be normal for a car, which is targeted for "highway use", at least around here. For a 3 year old car, it's not THAT unusual.

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

just did a double take, also did a clear calculation of KM to miles, not just an estimate as i did before

    comes out to 45000~ miles

which is... a bit high, but as you said , not unusual.

still a bit high, unless the price (which has not been mentioned) is very low.

that said, it seems hes comparing the turbo and S,

i'm sure he can find lower mileage used turbos at new S prices.

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

    GET THE USED BITURBO

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

    Thanks , guys.
I received pictures of the car, and the rims look hideous, they are 20 inch version of the 18 inch cayenne turbo wheel, some aftermarket type, and combined with the high mileage, I have decided to stay away from it.
    I will look for a car with maximum 15.000 miles/ 25.000 km.

Regarding the price....here in our country its HORRIBLE!!

As a "working car" with only 2 seats (they rip the back seat out, and you are not allowed to seat people in the back at all-if you do they force you to pay full import duty) the turbo is 150.000 usd...this used one is 100.000 US dollars, and then we pay 25% sales tax on top.!
As a "normal" passenger car, the cayenne V6 is..... 150.000!, and the turbo is...320.000 USD !!!!
All cars are taxed 180 % in our country, but "work/ 2 seater" cars's are "only" taxed 30 % import duty + 25 % sales tax!!!
We live in a welfare state...so I dont want to hear you guys complain about car prices, you hear?

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

Two months ago I was about to order a 2005 Cayenne S with many highend options like air suspension, PCM, etc. But then I found a 2004 Cayenne Turbo with 5000 miles for only a few thousand (US $) more so I went for it. It was a great decision. I could discuss rational arguments pro and con, but the simple fact is that it feels great to own the turbo. Do it - it will put a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel!

Re: USED Cayenne TURBO, or NEW cayenne S....?

    I absolutely agree!
That's what I like about this forum, everyone seems to have a like -minded spirit!
I am going for the smile, I will post my baby, once i have found her!
