Wait for 992 GT line to see a new family coming...beat it while it is still hot.

They will crank out GTs like crazy (see Blume’s statement mentioned in the linked article) - it worked too well with the 991 already. I am just wondering whether there are really that many buyers enjoying the GT DNA or whether the cars did sell like hot cakes just because many buyers falsely think of them as an « investment » Smiley They will milk the 911 cash-cow even further by adding a third line to the existing Carrera and GT-line: the name « lifestyle » line makes me cringe...Smiley

Not agree about the talks of brand problems. Porsche must be on tech avant garde. Otherwise it will be another aston. More cayennes and macan sold, more nice drivers cars. Unlike other brands there is no one that is close to porsche in terms of hybrid tech and electrification.

And maybe they will build this for us!

Agree with Kudryavchic.  As for the Car and Driver piece, it's been the same story from them for 50 years.  The magazine always takes the "if its not a purist manual hot rod with no amenities, it's a sellout to the masses crowd."  And the writer's note that the new 992 interior is cheaper than the 991?  Come on....

    Re: OFFICIAL: Cayenne Coupe (2019)

I used to be one of those view every advance Porsche makes with skepticism and sky-is-falling / end-is-nigh hand-wringing. And I used to dream of one day owning perfectly restored examples of all the older Porsches I've owned, starting almost 40 years ago. However, I now agree with those who say that the best Porsche is the newest Porsche.  Sure, some feature or other I view as backwards steps, but overall, I would not choose an older car over the newer ones. (One huge exception: 4 cylinder motors (e.g., 718, and base Macan.)

With that said, something remarkable happened to me today. I was visiting with my mother who's in her late 80's and definitely not a car person (in fact, she's anti-car.) As I was flipping channels on the TV, a review of the new base Cayenne came up (Motorweek was the show.) My mother asked if this was really a Porsche. After I said yes, and that it was like Porsche's version of a Range Rover, she simply said, That's the end of Porsche. I was stunned!

Guys, without VW, Porsche would be in serious trouble right now, especially when it comes to the "electrification" of their product line(s).

Fact is: I still like Porsche a lot but they need to find a new design language fast before they end up being (visually) less attractive than Audi. yes I don't say Porsche needs a Lamborghini look but definitely something more exciting than Audi and what they offer now.

The GT model line won't exist in it's current state without the Cayenne, Macan and Panamera.

    I beg to differs.

VW would be in a boatload of trouble right now if not for Porsche, their most profitable brand. Without Porsfche's money, VAG would have sunk under diesel gate.

Porsche has the highest yield return (over 16%) but considering VW Groups total return (11,6 billion EUR) in 2018, Porsche's return is not that significant (3,1 billion EUR). Without Porsche, VW Group would still have made 8,5 billion EUR in 2018... Smiley

According to the 2018 numbers, VW Group still makes most money with Audi, Porsche is second. Smiley

Well written article from the heart.

Porsche is transforming into a different company and this is the only way they can survive. The reason? Actually, it is the cars which "saved" Porsche which actually puts them under pressure now...the Cayenne and the Panamera, maybe even the Macan. Why? They don't sell that well anymore with the current discussion of climate change, emissions laws changes and whatnot. It should be a hint for Porsche that they sell so many GT cars but I doubt they take the hint. Right now, it is VW Group who plans the future of the various brands they own and Porsche's future is, apparently, EVs. Unfortunately, the same strategy seems to apply to Audi, so I'm not quite sure where Porsche fits in. Smiley

Sportscars? VW Group has the Porsche GT models and Lamborghini. Enough to satisfy the sportscars markets.

It is going to be interesting to see how the GT models will evolve: Will they stick to basics or will these cars be hybridized and turbo charged in the end?

Fact is: Porsche will very likely become the company with the most "electrification" and hybridization in the VW Group at some point but the question here is: Why? Do Porsche customers really want this? Will they sell enough cars? Their Taycan pre-orders are impressive but will that be enough? Will people be disappointed with the Taycan since it diverts from it's sensational original design? Will Porsche be able to deliver the performance people expect from them?

Sorry but this is not the company Porsche I fell in love with and the fact that they decided not to put a 960 on the market (yet?) drove me completely away. I hate to say this but the article isn't wrong, even if it isn't perfectly correct. Porsche is in the transformation process of becoming a different (EV?) company but as long as they keep building/developing GT models, I'm fine with it. I just wish they would have sticked with their root business only, sportscars. I'm afraid however that these times are over. For good.

I can understand why they would do it now from a marketing and image and point of view now that they are moving to full electrification of most of their models, and performance will likely be unprecedented, but they are also running a huge risk. A car like that with a sound of a golf cart, no downshifting into corners, no climbing up the rev rev range, just an on/off pedal... they could get crucified in the reviews when sportscar fans and press actually drive it. It will be a gamble, I'm sure that is what they are discussing before they give the green light, which I think they will, it is the logical step if they are going to be coherent with the direction they are taking.

    Re: OFFICIAL: Cayenne Coupe (2019)

I was watching the dutch football team (Oranje) playing Belarus when the Coupe was announced. I loved it and the fact that they introduced it in lava orange was a clear sign (I'm Dutch) indecision

So I ordered a non-turbo, but with PSCB (Turbo brakes) and yes in lava orange! It will replace my 958 Cayenne S that turns 8 in August. Performance is about the same and to be honest for a sporty family car for my needs sufficient.

Interesting concept but not a must have option. The car basically "adapts" to the road ahead based on GPS/etc. data and your driving style.

The potential interesting part for me is the Traffic Jam assist, for speeds up to 60 km/h. I can see the benefit of this.

I assume these systems work quite well now at lower speeds but I don't know, not my thing (yet).

    LOL actually no.

I do like the rear of the Cayenne coupe. The front to so much. TO me the new Cayenne's face is like, how do I say it, more peaceful, less aggressive. Think someone used the word cute to describe it.
