    Sport Chrono Gargoyle

Would have been seriously tempted to have the Sport Chrono Plus on my 987 - but that awful, naff, gargoyle of a stop watch thing sat on top of the dash is too high a price to pay Hey, Porsche - can we have a revised option with the good bits of this option without that thing on the dash!

    Re: Sport Chrono Gargoyle

Dash-chrono delete will have to come sooner or later as an option... hopefully.

    Re: Sport Chrono Gargoyle

Not if the idea came from the big Boss(WW) at Porsche .

    Re: Sport Chrono Gargoyle

Maybe it's just me, but the stopwatch doesn't actually bother me. I have seen it in two cars already, both of which I've sat in for extended periods of time and it never bothered me - and from what I can tell the benefits far outweigh any potential unsightliness. To each his own I guess.

But honestly Porsche shouldn't make e-gas tweaking an option you have to pay for, that's just silly.

Do you remember when you were 18, had your first car (probably a knackered Fiesta) and stuck lights and gauges all over the place? I wonder if Herr Weideking has an 18 year old son, per chance who got let loose in the design department by mistake?

yeah, my sentiments exactly. Looks like a total aftermarket addition.

The kid also likes lots of buttons and dials and even a TV screen in the car too.

    Re: Sport Chrono Gargoyle

Sort of understand what you mean - but test drove the 997 at the weekend with this. Once I was moving didn't notice the carbuncle at all, but did notice the difference in responsiveness when the salesguy switched the associated electronics on.

I put sport chrono on, then after discussing with the sales guy at Chapelgate took it off again. Now you are suggesting putting it back again - but you've experienced it, I haven't. My unsubtle hints of trying it on their Carrera "S" demo fell on stony ground
Seems that you and me are going to have to have a serious Options Discussion over that pint.....

and FAKE QUAD PIPES! AND UGLY WHEELS! (that need to be explained in order to function properly)

    Who says?

    Re: Sport Chrono Gargoyle

    Dreamcar,

Back from bonnie Scotland eh? I'm off to Paris on Thurs to have a good look at the 987, then down to Chapelgate on the 9th with final decision 987S/997S and spec so if you're about that day let me know. I'll bring the Paris pics, oo-er

Didn't get to drive the 997S as it's a tip and wanted to try the manual - I'm sure if you say you're thinking about the sport chrono they'll let you have a quick spin in it to feel the difference - you could really feel it, but then Pounds500 for not having to extend the foot quite so far, hmmmm.

Oh, girlfriend has just volunteered to drive that day so I can have more than one pint - one advantage of not being able to pry her out of the new mini cab - Scotthalls came through OK in the end.

    Re: Sport Chrono Gargoyle

I am leaving sport chrono off at the moment - I have to stop somewhere and my spec is just under Pounds48k. Pounds1k over my budget. Now if Porsche were to knock say Pounds150 off so we could order the "sport" without the "chrono" I would have it. By the way - I believe there are other adjustments you can do with this pack i.e. wipers / locks / etc? Can anyone advise?

    Re: Sport Chrono Gargoyle

The real shame of it, styling wise, is they assume most people want aftermarket-looking guages sticking out and in your face.

I'm not getting it because I like the nice clean lines of the car and one of the important lines (the dash) is interupted by the "wart"

Fortunately I won't be tracking the car and most of the sport button differences aren't a big deal (I have just the throttle re-mapping part of the sport button in my BMW and it's a parlor trick for normal road use)

Given the great deal of surface area dedicated to the screen, why couldn't they display this stopwatch lap counter on that?

I couldn't agree more - I would treat this option more seriously if I could have "sport" without "chrono". I also will do very little track time so I am about 80% against having it. (The 20% for is because RC recommended having it). My dealer is going to let me play with a 997S demo which has this feature, so I can make my mind up. I am also going over budget!

    Re: Sport Chrono Gargoyle

On the options list my dealer gave me for my Boxster it had 2 options down Sports Chrono...

Sports Chrono and Sports Chrono Plus...

Both at the same price but with diff product codes? Any idea what the diff would be?

I believe sport chrono plus is for cars with the optional PCM for the lap time readouts etc in the display. So unfortunately you still get the gargoyle.

    Re: Sport Chrono Gargoyle

Yes Sport Chrono Plus (Code: 640) is only available with PCM (Code: P16). Normal Sport Chrono (Code: 639). Both 639 and 640 are priced at Euro 742.40

Just got my official German catalogue yesterday with all product codes and prices from my Frankfurt dealer. But now just have to translate the German into Yorkshire speak
