    Re: 488 Replacement

Has anyone seen pics of Alfa's new 8c yet?

Presentation should be in Geneva, more than 700 hp combined, so most probably V6 hybrid, carbon tub (!).

    Could be interesting as well.

    Re: 488 Replacement

I am a Pista buyer and I am not in the least bit upset. The Pista looks far better, is lighter and  I suspect more agile. This is a gap filler model whilst the true mid -engined 488 successor with a V6 hybrid comes along. In the meantime the really interesting mid-engined product with a higher price point, distinct styling, and La Ferrari like or better performance will come later this year. That is the one I am excited about.

    Re: 488 Replacement

I'm not sure that it will be at Geneva but there is rumoured to be some sort of concept car from Alfa there. I have just bought a Giulia Quadrifoglio as a daily after having an entertaining test drive on Saturday. I was offered a great deal on the car as the dealer needed to hit a sales target so were prepared to take a loss on a couple of sales to do so. I had the choice of the Giulia Quadrifoglio or a Stelvio Quadrifoglio but as I've not had a four door saloon/sedan in years I thought it would make a nice change. The Stelvio was mightily tempting as it's performance is pretty amazing.

You're not upset because you know your cars. Smiley

Those who buy these cars by "numbers" and image only...different story.

Yes, could be very interesting but so could be the price tag. Smiley

Also, after the 4C, I don't know... Actually, I was thinking about getting one (4C) this spring, seriously...they are so cheap now with little mileage but my wife said I'm crazy and she may have a point. What for?! Smiley

I also see issues for Lamborghini with the current SVJ... OK, different price class but still...

This is going to be interesting but the most interesting time will be 2020 and the years to come after, when the push for EVs (in the sportscar world mild hybrids) will be stronger and cars get quieter.

SVJ order is still open, meaning they're not sold out yet, the hype is just unbelievable with this last Aventador and how difficult it is to get your hands on one, as if you're buying a can of coke Smiley

You are right, and I think going forward they are going to be increasingly upset as Ferrari look like restricting numbers less and pumping out more and more models.

    Re: 488 Replacement

Lately, basically all Ferrari designs had to grow on me first. It is a reality that the design gets more complex with every new model. The simplicity of the lines a Monza SP has is unmatched, loved that one from the beginning!

Because they are huge fun at moderately sane speeds on countryside roads. Just ask Whoopsy Smiley They also are inexpensive to run in terms of service and consumables. Switching to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres also has a dramatic impact upon the handling according to a growing number of owners who have made the switch. The Michelins reduce the nervous front end that the OEM Pirelli P Zero's give the car. I'll certainly give them a go when mine require replacing but I had the Alfa Workshop spacer blocks fitted and they make a big difference.

The 4C will become a classic for sure and values have stabilised now and will probably only start to slowly rise in future.

My dealer still has one SVJ in the showroom, a car delivered to him without a name on it. They wanted to register it to the dealership (and I was supposed to drive the first 200 km Smiley) but Lamborghini did not permit it (the registration on the dealership). Weird. Now they are waiting for the "right" customer, probably in a package deal or whatever. GM decides who gets it...

    Re: 488 Replacement

It's not a car that many passengers will enjoy travelling in as it is completely focused around the driver. With your past car history I'd have thought you'd love it. It won't win on the autobahn drag race but it is so much fun on those flowing driving roads. It feels like a junior 430 Scuderia to me.

    Re: 488 Replacement

But for the McLaren epic depreciation that’s the car to buy. Performance, styling and sensory feedback, it can’t be beat.

    Re: 488 Replacement

Nick, the RS and the Ferrari don’t depreciate because you cannot buy one in the USA!

same for this car, it is cool but totally irrelevant because it would be impossible to get one for 3 or 4 years.

Then, I would have ordered one, no?! Smiley Smiley

In my humble opinion, nothing beats the Performante in the performance/sensory feedback and emotional department when it comes to it's price class (the 488 GTB would be in this class, so is the 720S btw. and by performance I do not mean straight line performance, which for me has become completely irrelevant) but it remains to be seen how the new F8 Tributo does in this class (if Ferrari kept the price tag at an acceptable level).

Btw: In the under 200k EUR class, nothing beats the GT3 RS in my opinion. Haven't really driven the 600LT yet though, not sure if this car could be as good or better but probably not.

impressive numbers for the entry model of the v8 sportscar range. kiss

Mclaren is pushing them all out of their comfort zone. Porsche looks like they are still not taking it seriously though...angry

outside style is subject to discussion and probably took all the money development as the interior is a copy paste of the last 10y...indecision

if you are a Pista owner and pi..ed about it...well you are missing the point as the pista is track focus special series as the performante is and as the GTs are...

    Yes it is.

I would add it's also immensely fun on track too.

I gave my car RE71, much stickier tires than those Pilot Sport 4.

Silly to chase 6-700hp when something like this little thing with 240 will give a giant smile on one's face. And if I want more power, there is a company that does ECU swaps, super easy to do when the ECU is just sitting THERE in the engine compartment.
