    Re: Tesla Roadster

Don't want do be disrespectful, but that reads like a Volkswagen press announcement.  You wrote:

" A successful transition for most ICE owners to EVs will only occur when it is virtually seamless."
    Obviously true

" Audi is addressing that situation, and part of those design decisions required making the e-tron appear slightly less efficient than the relatively similar Tesla Model X.  "

What does "appear" mean ? Is it less efficient or not ?  And how does lesser efficiency affect "virtually seamless."

Don't get me wrong. The e-tron is a nice package, esp since it is their first car. Audi decided that their car should look like a standard ICE Audi and therefore will be not as efficient as it could be. To counter this they adapted the battery (adding more nickel) so it can charge with higher amps for a longer time, which btw is not the standard use case, since no one has 100kw+ charging at home; well probably someone here on RT has indecision
    To claim victory requires more.

    Cheers

PS: Not to mention that the 3l and 1l cars are just fairy tales

    Re: Tesla Roadster

On one of the Tesla/EV blogs I follow, someone asked if it is possible to tell if their Model 3 was built in the factory or in the tent.  I guess if the pigeon $h*t is in the cabin, it was built in the tent.

And 99% of the SUV on the market, even the super light duty crossovers are still better than the Model X for the odd chance they go off road. Or even just snow, or just rain. Or just gravel. OR just unpaved roads.

And 99% of the minivans on the market are much better for minivan duty than the Model X.

So where did that leaves the Model X?

He worked for them, even found his place in the local government and after six years (or was it eight?), he now has a nice monthly government pension (over 2k EUR) on top of his other job. I couldn't do it (maybe I'm too dumb for that or maybe I'm just too honest) but it is kind of admirable (or shocking) of what people do for money. Smiley

Since the Model X is neither a SUV or a minivan (it is a large luxury crossover that seats 7), it leaves it in its own category Smiley The fact that it is an EV, and a pretty good and efficient one is just the cherry on the cake.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

Hmm...I wonder...what if someone puts the whole Tesla X tech under a Lamborghini Urus shell? Would someone be interested? Thinking about creating a new company. smiley

Just kidding but seriously: The Urus design (incl. interior) combined with the Tesla X EV tech? Not a bad combo for an EV SUV.

Yes, a crossover category on its own, the crossover between a minivan and a Prius indecision... but nothing luxurious about it though, I've seen it in real life in and out.

What a tautology he has woven considering he has constantly compared the Model X to the Audi e-tron and Jaguar i Pace.  Now the Tesla is something different and incomparable.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

The fact that it is in its own category does still make it totally comparable, what else are you going to compare it to for now?

Different? Of course it is different, that’s why it is generating so much love/hate. It is new and groundbreaking. Luxury? Well it is just a different kind of luxury where the money is not in the quality of the interior (no leather) or the panel gaps. The luxury is in the EV tech (efficiency), the gullwing doors and the giant screen and tech. The price is luxury all right and they sell quite a few of them...

Saying the X is a cross between a minivan and a Prius is the same as saying the 911 is a cross between a Beetle and a Miata. It is just a silly catchphrase.

He has returned to tweeting with several winners including returning to self-driving systems...but they actually require driver intervention, and posting production volumes for 2019.  In the production volume Tweet, he stated that TSLA would achieve 500,000 units for the year, only to have to walk back to 400,000, the very number posted in the financial reports.  He juiced the production number by using an anticipated, eventual production level of 10,000 per week.  Even the weekly production numbers are based on achieving a production rate of X, for how long, no one knows.

In other news, another unbiased review, though non-driving, of the new Audi e-tron from a current Tesla owner.  Overall, this review is very positive too.  https://insideevs.com/video-audi-e-tron-ev-need-to-know/  I am amused by the numerous comments attempting to explain why the e-tron isn't "as efficient" as the Model X by condemning the grille of the Audi.  The grille is located at a stagnation point and has a carefully shaped opening for cooling, which even EVs require.  It's contribution to the overall drag of the vehicle is negligible, while maintaining  the brand entity of Audi.  Real drag reduction is in carefully shaping the rear and underbody of the vehicle.  Audi has infinitely more resources in aerodynamics than Tesla ranging from CFD systems to moving road climate wind tunnels.  Audi has pioneered the use of detached-eddy simulations for vehicles beyond the typical use of computational fluid dynamics utilized by companies such as Tesla.

Nothing new in that article.  It is an established fact that the Tesla requires less kWh per kilometer than either the Audi or the Jaguar; however, the relevance, beyond eking out a few more kilometers of range is virtually meaningless for most owners.  Once again, each automaker optimized the design based on slightly different parameters.

It has become tedious when the efficiency argument are on par with comparing a Mercedes E450 with a BMW 540i xdrive and stating that there is a difference in fuel economy.  The difference is trivial.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

It is trivial because usually the difference would be 10%. They are talking 23-30%...

Well now you have a choice. You can buy an inefficient overpriced Q5 with leather inside or you can buy a more efficient but still overpriced less cozy interior 7 seater X. That said, compared to a GLS 63 AMG, the X holds the candle in man aspects.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

Want efficiency in an EV crossover, get a Kia or Hyundai, according to this Norwegian test.  https://elbil.no/stor-vintertest-naer-900-kilometer-med-fem-hoyreiste-elbiler/
