Hello from OZ
I've been lerking in this forum for quite some time but this is my first post. Last night I was invited by my porsche dealer for a test drive in the new 911. There was the standard C2 and C2S, and for added bonus a beautiful red CGT for us to look at. First of all the test drive and visual impressions of the new 911. It is definately better looking in the flesh than in pictures. I still don't like the steering wheel but I can live with that. The power of the C2S is awesome from 2000rpm to redline it just pulls. Also the exhaust note is loud and throaty I love it. The car I drove was Silver with Blue leather and it looked mighty fine. I only had 30mins in the car so I really can't say much except that the 911 has once again evolved and it is an improvement next to a STD 911. I do agree that the 996 Turbo, C4S and GT3 look better, but lets compare apples with apples. The 996 C2 looks like a dinosaur next to the 997.
Aus Prices 997 C2 = $195,000 AUD approx
997 C2S = $221,000 AUD approx
On a side note to my suprise the beautiful red CGT was open and I was allowed to sit inside it, close my eyes and dream of driving this masterpiece. Unfortunately in Australia even if you have the $1.2 million dollars to purchase the CGT it is against the law to drive the car on Australian roads because it is left hand drive. Unless of course you own you own racetrack .
