The Tesla hate is strong with Nick. I have never seen anything like it. Wow. Just a bit on the irrational side.
Actually I don't hate it. I am standing right smack down the middle of opinions. neither leaning towards a Tesla fanatic nor a Tesla hater.
Leaning one side or another would cloud the judgement and not be objective.
I see good side from Tesla and the bad.
Bad is they try to put lipstick on a pig to sell their cars. For the price they charge, they are not up to industrial standard. The performance part is also overblown, yes they are fast from rest to speed limit, but it's not highly repeatable. The battery tech is also limiting the performance (but that can also be said of every other EV that will come, including the Taycan, the Taycan will just suffer as much in cold weather). Tesla also do not do corners well, the giant touch screen is a giant safety hazard.
A fully loaded Model S is what, 145k? If Tesla sink another say 5k to make the interior better, 145k vs 150k, people shopping in that price range will not bat an eye for the extra 5k. It will be that much more competitive. The car can sell itself, it doesn't need Elon to lie and boast how great his car is, he just have to be honest and realistic. People can and will find out themselves.
Good for Tesla is that without them, the EV trend will not advance as quickly. They do push other manufacturers to get their shit together. And because Tesla are so great on doing amazing drag times, it gets Americans into them as straight line drags are what Americans called motorsport. Even soccer moms loves talking about how fast their Tesla is. Something I do not believe a Cayenne driving soccer mom would say. Tesla definitely expanded the car universe.
